Broken metatarsal will need time to heal
Leighton Baines appears set to miss one of the busiest parts of the season as he is expected to be sidelined with a broken metatarsal, according to The Mirror. The player started limping before the half-time break in Saturday's match against Liverpool, and was replaced by Gerrard Deulofeu just after the restart.

Roberto Martinez is still waiting to get a full diagnosis from the medics, but the defender seems certain to be out for at least a month with the injury, which will mean he misses the crucial December period.

That is a huge blow for the Spanish coach, with Everton facing seven matches in the next four weeks, as they look to establish themselves in the race for a top four place.

Update: Speaking on Tuesday morning, Roberto Martinez said: “It has been confirmed that Leighton has got a fracture in one of the bones in his right foot, which is the phalange. We need to treat that now and see how it develops. It could mean anything from missing six weeks to being back in 10 days because it depends how the fracture heals. It is in such a specific spot and we are going to see how it [the injury] reacts.”
