Lukaku open to staying at Everton

Romelu Lukaku has admitted that he could stay with Everton beyond the terms of his season-long loan if the Blues qualify for the Champions League.

The Belgian striker was speaking to the BBC at the same time as fresh media scrutiny of his relationship with Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, and the circumstances behind his departure from Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day.

New reports suggest that Lukaku requested a transfer just days before the deadline after weighing up his options of first-team football this season and he opted to join Everton over an approach from West Bromwich Albion whose colours he wore last season.

While he stresses that his aim is to be successful with the West London side, the 20 year-old's priorities clearly lie with first-team football and European competition and that means that a permanent switch to Everton is not beyond the realms of possibility.

"It's not a bad idea [to stay]. If we play Champions League, yeah, why not?".

"I was watching the games this week and I miss European football a lot.

"I would like to be successful at Chelsea but I have to work and grow and be a better player and then at the end of the season see what is the best decision for my career."
