City took the lead after 17 minutes when Ashley Smith-Brown fired home a loose ball. The lead was double just two minutes later when Thierry Ambrose converted at the near post. The Blues did pull a goal back after the half-hour to make it 2-1 off a well-taken corner, when Courtney Duffus was on hand to flick the ball into the back of the net, and that was the way it stayed until the break. But just after the second half started, Ambrose struck again to extend the home side's lead. Everton rallied at that point and applied pressure to the City goal, going close on a number of occasions. But instead of finding a way back into the game, the Toffees found themselves 4-1 down when Denzeil Boadu struck with just eight minutes left.
