Chelsea used ''every trick in the book''

Roberto Martinez accused Chelsea of using ‘every trick in the book' to grind out a narrow victory over his top-four chasing Everton side.

The visitors resisted the threat of Jose Mourinho's side until stoppage time, when Frank Lampard's set piece led to John Terry's winner.

But Martinez – who refused to blame referee Lee Probert – pointed a finger at the league-leaders after Phil Jagielka was penalised for a late challenge on Ramires.

"If you watch the replay, it's not a free-kick at all. That happened with other incidents,” he said.

"I don't blame the referee at all. It's an incredible knowhow, using every trick in the book."

The Everton boss felt his side edged the encounter and called on his charges to take advantage when they dominate proceedings.

“We defended really well but John Terry was brave and they scored. Overall I thought we were the better side,” he said.

"It was a very unfair result not to get anything from the game after the performance that we had.

"We need to make sure that when we play well and when we deserve to get a positive result, we do that."
