The 16-year-old central-midfield prospect has been included in the match squad by Roberto Martinez in recent matches at Southampton and on Saturday against Manchester City and, had he played, he would have become the second youngest Everton first-team player in the club's history after Jose Baxter. International duty now calls for the youngster who has become a regular in the Blues' U-21 side this season and could well feature at first-team level next season as Everton potentially battling on four fronts with the addition of Europa League football. “He has done really well and has deserved the opportunity to be in the first team squad,” Martinez said of Ledson who is regarded with cautious optimism on Merseyside as a potential star of the future. “It was a very close call to him coming on to make his first team debut and it's a shame now that he needs to join England Under-17s. It's an official tournament; England has priority and Ryan is the captain at that level. “But he has benefitted from the experience he has had with the first team and we have all been very impressed with Ryan's development this season and his appearances for the Under-21s.
