Blues' early-bird success

The 2014 Early Bird window saw a huge rise in Season Ticket sales as Evertonians rushed to ensure they're there to watch Roberto Martinez's men in action next term.

Last week's deadline passed with 24,812 supporters having purchased or renewed their Season Ticket - a year-on-year increase of 21 per cent.

Of all the Club's 2013-14 Season Ticket holders, a staggering 93 per cent reaffirmed their loyalty by renewing ahead of the deadline and made savings of up to £120 as a reward.

Since taking over the reins last summer, Martinez has introduced a more football-focused approach on the pitch, resulting in Everton achieving a record 13 Premier League home wins this term.

With one game to go, a tally of 69 points is also four better than any previous Premier League campaign, while defeats for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United on Saturday ensured European football will return to Goodison Park next season for the first time since 2009-10.

Such form has had fans singing about the re-emergence of the 'School of Science' — and they've flocked to Goodison Park in response. A best-ever number of Half-Season ticket sales was achieved at the turn of the year, while the weekend's visit of Manchester City was a record ninth sell-out of the campaign.

The stadium's average attendance also rose dramatically from 36,365 last season to 37,732 this — with over 26,000 additional fans travelling through the turnstiles.

"Attendances have been fantastic this season," said Everton's Chief Executive Officer Robert Elstone. "If you look at the past four or five seasons and look at the number of full houses and look at average attendances, then the trend has been very positive.

"In 2013-14, we've had nine full houses and we're very pleased and very proud to have had that. We've also had an average attendance of well over 37,500, and I think as everybody knows, when we get to 36,000 at Goodison we start selling restricted view seats. To be substantially ahead of that figure is a great achievement.

"In terms of the Early Bird numbers, we're absolutely delighted to be where we are, and thank you to everybody who has bought or renewed their Season Ticket.

"What it means is we've now set a very ambitious target for next season. That target is that three out of every four seats will be pre-sold before the first ball of the season is kicked.

"When you add in hospitality sales and the Season Ticket target, we're looking at 30,000 tickets already pre-sold, and that would be really great news for the football club."
