Everton U18s were beaten 2-0 by Santos at the Durban Under-19 International Tournament in South Africa, the Brazilian side scoring a goal in each half of the Blues' opening game.

According to the official site's account of the match:

The Blues competed well with their South American opposition but were regularly frustrated by the Brazilians' ability to keep the ball, thus denying Sheedy's side the chance to impose their own possession-based game.
Santos' pressure told when Matheus Silva fired past Hewelt with four minutes of the first half remaining and the Brazilians doubled their lead when Leonardo Assis crossed low and James Graham put the ball into his own net.

The young Blues hope to bounce back when they take on Feyenoord next. A full list of the U18 players who travelled to South Africa:

Sounds like they were different class. Hope our recruitment boys were earmarking one or two Brazilians.

No shame in that for our young boys, playing in another country against older boys... all good experience.

Thanks Ant. I'd missed the age bit.
