Everton's 35-year-old goalkeeper was the runaway winner, garnering 64% of the votes and in so doing becomes the fifth American player to earn the accolade multiple times in his career. Howard gained national fame in the States for his performances at the World Cup, setting the record for the number of saves in a single match when he kept Belgium at bay until Romelu Lukaku scored the winner in extra time of their Round of 16 meeting. He also picked up 15 clean sheets on the domestic front for the Blues on their way to a 5th-place finish in Roberto Martinez's first season in charge. “It's an honor,” Howard said on ESPN. “It's pretty special to have my name up there with the greats.” Reader Comments (4) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission.
