Martinez is setting a dangerous precedent by persisting with Howard

Howard can't be considered as a critical figure; if anything, throughout the entirety of this campaign—while some of Everton's defending has also left much to be desired—the American stopper has been a hindrance to the Blues.

Some silly stuff in this article. Martinez isn't setting a "precedent"... in fact managers tend to be loyal to off-form keepers more often than not (see Iker Casillas)... and the author's proclamation that Joel has "blossomed into a commanding presence" is a laughable overstatement.

However, his main point is correct. It's time for a new #1.

Well, according to news reports Martinez will stick with Howard tonight :-

Let me put this question - In what circumstances, barring injury, would RM play Robles?

Ciaran, Martinez will stick with Howard because as well as being inept he is arrogant and stubborn. His witless comments force him into a corner where he either looks a deluded fool or stands by his man and looks like, err, a deluded fool.

The only silly thing in this article is the phrase "Howard's one man mission to get Everton relegated" the rest of it is pretty much spot on.

When things are going badly you need to make some changes, sometimes just for the sake of change. Martinez had one forced on him, it worked, and then he went back to the original way as soon as he could, which then didn't work.

We've done this to death haven't we?

It's unanimous, everyone bar Martinez wants Robles in goal.

I don't care how 'influential' or 'experienced' Howard is. If Robles is better in goal then he should play. Very simple.
