Season › 2014-15 › News Why has Neville Southall been overlooked for National Hall of Fame ... again? , 30 March, 14comments | Jump to most recent The Everton Heritage Society have campaigned for the Goodison legend's inclusion but he was overlooked again this year. The panel of judges includes Sir Alex Ferguson, whom Southall once told to "fuck off", believing the phone call he received from the Manchester United boss was Andy Gray pulling a prank. » Read the full article at Liverpool Echo Reader Comments (14) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. He was without out doubt one of the finest keepers I have had the pleasure to watch. He had a long and illustrious career and won two League title medals and two FA Cup Winners medals. If it hadn't have been for that unfortunate injury playing for Wales, he might have won another League and Cup medal. He's certainly in my top five all-time great Everton players and he's possibly the number one player in my time of watching Everton. As for Alex Ferguson's phone-call I thought that tapping up players wasn't allowed? Peter Mills 2 Posted 30/03/2015 at 22:30:24 Alan Mullery and Norman Hunter were decent players, no more. Neville Southall was magnificent. Sean Kelly 3 Posted 30/03/2015 at 23:08:33 Southall was our finest keeper. The reason heÂs not in the Hall of Fame is he says it as he sees it. ItÂs not always what you want to hear but itÂs the truth. HeÂs one of ours and still has passion for his and our club. Harold Matthews 4 Posted 31/03/2015 at 00:02:15 I don't think Nev would want to be on the same list as Mullery and Hunter. David Hamilton 5 Posted 31/03/2015 at 01:45:30 Slightly off topic, but speaking of Mullery, Big Nev, injustice etc, England caps:Phil Neville 59Alan Mullery 35Colin Harvey 1Howard Kendall 0 Harold Matthews 6 Posted 31/03/2015 at 09:45:24 Yes David, very upsetting. No wonder we don't win anything. Harold Matthews 7 Posted 31/03/2015 at 09:48:58 "We" being England, of course. Andrew Ellams 8 Posted 31/03/2015 at 10:20:56 Not sure how this National Hall of Fame thing works, but are there any non-English players in it? Patrick Murphy 9 Posted 31/03/2015 at 10:35:13 Andrew - I don't know the answer to your question but I'm pretty sure there are non-English players in the Hall of Fame and the accompanying article states that "The Golden Boy of Welsh Football', Ivor Allchurch, will also be inducted in October." Paul Hughes 10 Posted 31/03/2015 at 10:42:37 Andrew at 8, Yes there are non British players in the Hall of Fame, namely, Zola, Schmeichel, Henry, Ardiles and Bergkamp, plus a bear endless list of Scots, Irish and one Welsh (Giggs) and oddly enough... Wenger Paul Wharton 11 Posted 31/03/2015 at 11:56:48 As you can see from the article, the EFC Heritage Society will not be moved in our quest to have Nev inducted into the Hall of Fame. Another letter has been posted to the relevant people. Andrew Ellams 12 Posted 31/03/2015 at 12:15:23 He doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke who will lose any sleep over this. Mike Childs 13 Posted 01/04/2015 at 11:39:51 I just listen to him in a recent interview and even as the novice in the group I would venture a guess that the only thing he looses sleep over is an Everton loss. As Sean said, he tells it like it is. Listening to him speak about the ban from Europe increased my hatred for our egotistical pampered neighbors. Matt Traynor 14 Posted 06/04/2015 at 09:45:24 Interesting, if wholly unsurprising. The Ferguson tapping up story is funny. He was forever doing it. He even tapped up OFM. No respect for authority, but why should he if they didn't stop him? When Jaap Stam unwisely made reference to it in his autobiography he was bounced out of OT.
