Season › 2014-15 › News U19s beaten in Dallas Cup semis , 4 April, 8comments | Jump to most recent Everton's Under-19s are out of the Dallas Cup after being beaten 1-0 by Coritba yesterday. The young Blues had adapted to the large pitch and were in the ascendency when they fell behind to Da Silva's 34th-minute goal. They rallied well in the second half but couldn't find an equaliser despite forcing a flurry of late corners, and were forced by an obdurate Brazilian defence to accept defeat that ends their impressive run in the competition before Sunday's final. Everton U19s: Hewelt, Yates, Thorniley [Y:36'], Kenny, Robinson, Ledson (c) [Y:22], Connolly (55' Bainbridge), Dowell (62' Dyson), Donohue (55' Holland), Davies [Y:62'] (80' Birch), Henen (62' Brewster).Subs not Used: O'Loughlin, Langton. Well done to them, and it's good we are keeping the core of last season's U18s together as they move up. Still a long way to go and for some this may have been the peak of their career, but hopefully 3 or 4 may get on the fringe of the first team in the next few years. I wish we had a natural goalscorer coming through, although Henen seems to be improving month by month. One person, Ryan Ledson, seems to continually stand out as the class player in the squad; while he needs to be nurtured, it's time to give him some decent exposure to the first team. Tony Abrahams 2 Posted 04/04/2015 at 09:05:41 Agree Phil, I don't know how close the kid is, but once we are safe give him some game time. Bring Long back as well although he does seem to be getting good competition where he is now.Roy Keane was given his debut at Anfield, after being at Forest for about six weeks, having previously played in Ireland. Doesn't seem to apply much anymore but if you're good enough, you're old enough, especially if you're one of those kids that doesn't give a fuck about egos. Sam Hoare 3 Posted 04/04/2015 at 09:58:58 Shame. Though Coritiba are a very strong team by all accounts. Anyone watch it?My only concern is that this group seem like a very good 'team' with lots of very able individuals rather than a decent bunch with one or two superstars (such as Rooney's academy FA cup-winning team). It's always exciting to see standout talents whereas this lot seem to be strong all over. Hopefully a few of them have what it takes to reach the top. Dave Abrahams 4 Posted 04/04/2015 at 11:44:26 I think you are close to the point Sam, I'd back Kenny and Ledson to have a good chance of coming through with Everton. Connolly has a decent chance, but the lad I really like is Liam Walsh. He's got a lot of talent, can dribble, pass and get stuck in. I notice he didn't play in this final game, I'm sure he went with this group, maybe he is injured. Phill Thompson 5 Posted 04/04/2015 at 12:14:38 Dave, yes Walsh was in the squad though I can't recall seeing his name in the last few games; as you say, he may be injured. It's impressive the number of 17/16-year-olds who played, ie, they could field a team from this squad next year if we qualify. Davies, Holland, Bainbridge, 16; Yates 17 the other day; Ledson, Kenny, Connolly; Dowell, Donohue, Brewster, Walsh all 17. (I may have missed some out, it wasn't a comprehensive check.) 1 Hewelt Mateusz 2 Yates James 3 Robinson Antonee 4 Graham Aidan 5 Langton Curtis 6 Ledson Ryan 7 Donohue Michael 8 Davies Thomas 9 Dyson Calum 10 Dowell Kieran 11 Holland Nathan 12 O'Loughlin Ciaran 14 Brewster Delial 15 Bainbridge Jack 16 Birch Arlen 17 Connolly Callum 18 Kenny Jonjoe 19 Thorniley Jordan 20 Walsh Liam 21 Henen David Paul McGinty 6 Posted 04/04/2015 at 12:31:43 My son went to the game. He told me Ledson was the pick of the bunch followed by Kenny. The opposition had game savvy... knew how to pick up a foul and manage a lead. Barry Pearce 7 Posted 04/04/2015 at 12:35:41 Let's hope a few do make the step up. I believe JonJoe Kenny will make the grade. Dominic Tonge 8 Posted 05/04/2015 at 14:45:41 Henen looks to have bedded in a bit, but I thought as he had dropped to Under-21 he would be looking imperious.
