Ryan Ledson is the latest Everton U21 player to be handed an opportunity to get valuable first-team experience with a loan move to Cambridge United.

The 18-year-old will stay at the Abbey Stadium until at least 3rd January when the League Two side would have the option of extending the deal.

His first opportunity could tomorrow when the Us face Accrington Stanley.

So pleased for the lad. He's been praying for this all season. Real competitive football for a good club in a beautiful part of the country. Should get games and do well.

Great news, this will be very interesting for all blues fans.

Get as many youngsters out on loan as possible, and for a full season too, it's the only way they can progress.

Playing U18/U21 will not make a man of you when playing against boys! I am sure it will help his development and I wish him all the best.

The other half is a season ticket holder at the Abbey and is off to see them play Accrington at home today. It’s Shaun Derry’s home debut also and I’ve asked her to scout young Ryan – should he feature.

As Harold says, this should help Ryan a great deal playing proper football with plenty of good hard tackles going in.

I think Ledson will relish this type of game; the non-contact football in the U21s is not helping him at all. I expect him to come back a stronger and better player. Good luck, lad.

If his mini derby tackle is anything to go by, League Two had better watch out!

Good luck to him; I hope he comes back with rave reviews and as soon as possible gives the manager a selection headache. A very talented tough-tackling central midfielder if ever I’ve seen one with the qualities to be a leader on the field.

I've always liked the look of this lad, as said by others, this loan should help hid development no end.

I'd extend it for a further few months.

Looks like he played the full 90 today.

And one of the directors at Cambridge is an ex-room mate of OFM when they played for Cambridge. Graham is a great guy and will make sure the atmosphere down there is good.

Awarded the man of the match according to Cambridge's official Twitter page. Look forward to hearing any witness accounts. Definitely one to watch.

Yes Ryan was voted MotM in their 3-2 home defeat by Accrington so a good start for him.

Meanwhile, David Henen scored and was outstanding for Fleetwood in their 5-1 romp over Swindon.

The Mrs said he definitely deserved the MotM award he received from the sponsors. He appeared to be being played as a box-to-box midfielder and although a couple of his passes went awry, he did get a shot off at goal and drew praise from the crowd for a couple of key tackles against an impressive Accrington outfit.

Good luck to the lad – I like the look of him and think he will be a player for us for years to come.

Give Ryan a couple of games to settle in, then he will be directing the Cambridge players all over the pitch.

This move will help Ledson a great deal, he and a lot of young players at Everton (and at a host of senior clubs) are just stagnating playing in the U21s, the style of football played there, mostly non-contact football definitely doesn’t help or improve their game.

Great to hear these lads (Ledson, Henen) have made such a good start to their loan moves. I rate them both highly from what I’ve seen.

These loan moves should play a big role in their development and pathway towards the first-team squad next season.

Good start from Ryan. Hopefully he can push on with this loan as I feel his trajectory has stalled somewhat recently and I think he was dropped from the England U19s for a game or two.

We clearly have a batch of talented 16- to 19-year-olds currently and the club has to ensure that they get as close to their potential as possible.

He won man of the match again, voted by their fans, after the win last night against Morecambe, and Grant is still going well at Doncaster.

I’d like to see Dowell go out on loan once he’s fully recovered his fitness. I think we will get at least two high-class first-team players out of this crop of 17- & 18-year-olds.

Tony (#22), thanks for the info; looks like he is coming out of his shell. I hope he stays there longer than January, it will all help his long-term career.

Ledson, Grant and Henen all appear to be making a decent impression. The 'Everton Players on Loan' thread on Grand Old Team is a good source of reports.
