Defiant Martinez insists he is the man for Everton job

, 23 April, 281comments  |  Jump to most recent

Roberto Martinez was insistent after today's heart-breaking FA Cup semi-final that his team is developing and that he shares the Blues' ambitions.

The manager faced the media after the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and was asked if is still the man for the job at Goodison Park despite another hugely disappointing season and a second cup exit at the semi-final stage.

"I am, yes. I'm so attached to Everton and my ambition is exactly the same as their ambition.

"Over the last three years we haven't invested any money. We've been handling assets really well. I think the squad is at a great valuation if you want. We've got very good young players, we develop young players really well.

"I just share the drive that the football club has which is to getting into the Champions League, getting into positions where we can bring silverware to the football club and I'll give everything I've got to fulfil those expectations.

"I feel every season we are developing and showing certain things that can please our fans and bring the silverware they deserve.

But clearly, at moments like this of true disappointment, it is very difficult to see through that the real good things we have developed over the last three seasons."

I need to lay down in a dark room..

Is this for real or some kind of delayed black April Fool's joke???

We have had a completely horrible season, coupled with arguably the worst week in the clubs recent history!!

Defining week yet all we turn up for is 35 minutes in the second half..

We have lost the two games we couldn't lose, and now I hear this from Martinez..

I am starting to wonder if I'm asleep and this week has just been a bad dream....

The repeated absence of facts in his pressers is becoming startling. Not invested anything in 3 years? Really?

As for the valuations, two of our 3 gems were here before he arrived. The 3rd cost 28m. If you add Del Boy to the mix, Barca have a buy back which would leave us with a small profit?

But the message is clear. Having screwed up in the league, he bigs up the cups. Those are now out of reach so he bigs up the squad. If the squad disintegrates this summer what will he big up next?

No.
Three years is enough time, with Everton's resources, to build a team that challenges for the title.
Martinez has had his chance.

What planet does Martinez live on.

Only he could say that we are developing every season.

Actually, he's probably right for once.

We have developed into a bottom half bunch of under achievers.

Only a mad man could spin that one!

What do we expect him to say? "Nah, I'm not up to it".

All eyes on the owners now and if they don't sack him before the end of the season the atmosphere at Goodison could turn very nasty as soon as the team give away goals or play sideways/backwards football. It could end a lot worse so I think it would be fairer to show him the door now.

He would do wouldn't he, his win record at home alone, should see him safely sacked.

IF we keep Roberto on, we then deserve everything coming our way. We're next season's Villa.

RELEGATION is our destiny. Defeat will become totally acceptable.

Pity you wasted what little money you had on McGeady, Kone and Niasse Roberto - why did you fail to bring in any defenders in January - who knows we might have made it to two cup finals instead of none if you had,

"I share the drive that the football club has which is getting into the Champions League..."
... while Leicester and Spurs are trying to win the EPL.

Is that really the full extent of the club's ambition?

There is no question that Martinez is a nice guy, although his constant head in the clouds positivity and dancing at concerts is embarrassing, I'm sure he'll see some more success in his career.

I don't have any confidence in him now though and I can't think of a way he can turn that around without being given an amount of time which could be very damaging for the club if it didn't go 100% correctly.

We're likely to lose at least one of our more talented players this summer and we need to replace at least six others.

I hope someone has a got a plan!

How many other respectable Premier League clubs would tolerate the failures witnessed at this club in the last two seasons??

Questions will be asked of Moshiri's role if Martinez is still here next season.

We have won ONE home game since November, we basically look incapable of beating anyone at all and we cannot defend full stop.

Keeping Martinez will ensure this team is in a certain relegation battle next season (not mathematically safe this season).

This last 18 months has made me feel as low about Everton as I have done since the dying embers of Walter Smith's tenure in Spring 2002.

I'm with Robbie Cannon on this. If there is no headline by tomorrow the people in charge are a disgrace to our club. We have been on a downward trajectory since the end of his first season in charge.

How can they not see what we see? I'm astonished he thinks we have spent no money. Aren't three of the players he has brought in top 5 transfer records?

My heart goes out to all those who made the trip. You deserve so much more.

Sad, tragic – call it what you like. I prefer to call it typical and normal.

Until this club changes its whole structure and attitude and stops living in the bloody past, this will repeat with regular monotony.

Employ a winner as manager and players who take a bollucking when they get it wrong and stop making excuses, might be a start.

Harsh, but true.

Guys - we simply need a HUGE demonstration at the Norwich game to give BK and Mr Moshiri no alternative but to dismiss him. I cannot bring myself to comment on his latest press comments as they belong in some fictional work from another galaxy. After inflicting the worst home league record in living memory on us, he then follows it up with promising to 'make Evertonians proud' in one of the most important weeks in the clubs recent history, which has resulted in nothing but humiliation and cruel defeat. And he talks about how we are
developing. Please, please Señor Martinez, release us from your torture

Three years is a satisfactory time period to achieve Champions League football. Especially with the foundations left by Moyes, the additional investment he's had and considering his first season.

We could understand the above drivel if we had improved season upon season, but we are continually regressing and it's getting faster.

I don't know a single blue who has any confidence in him anymore.

If he told me the sky is blue and white in the morning, I'd seriously doubt him.

Three years with one club in the premier league is ample time to implement a plan for progress. His plan hasn't worked. Simple really.

Now turn the fucking lights off on your way out

Being a life long Evertonian (40+ years) I'm not used to feeling that our manager should be sacked. It's just not.....well.... Everton like.

We share success and failure with our managers and have sat back and watched other lesser clubs change their managers like Beckham changes his haircuts; with little resulting success. However, we have reached that uncomfortable point when, as nice a fella as he is – and he really is – we have no choice but to show him the door. Make no mistake, this will happen soon and so what we need to do is stop wasting time calling for his sacking and start selecting our ideal replacement.

I don't know if it's just me but I can't think of any ideal Everton manager at the moment. Jose wouldn't come, we should avoid "up and coming" starlets and established, quality coaches are gainfully employed. One things for sure, I really hope the member who suggested we consider the fat Spanish one was suffering from a temporary loss of senses.

In conclusion, I hate sacking the manager and hope it's another 15 years or so before we are forced to do this again.

I find it very hard to believe we had no striker on the bench today. Surley that is not right for an FA Cup semi-final.

I expect an announcement very soon that Martinez has lost his job. I wish him well in the future, but it's time someone in our club grew a pair and did the right thing.

In about 4 hours I get on a 10 hour flight home from Canada. I guessed nothing much would happen immediately after the game.

With the time difference however, next time I turn my phone on it'll be around midday Sunday.

I really don't want to attend any matches until he's been sacked, but if he's still in a job by Sunday night / Monday morning, I'd drive up from Oxford with a Martinez out banner for one of the remaining home games if need be!

I agree with Roberto.
He is the man for the Everton job.
He needs a longer term contract to fully implement his philosophy.

This guy needs a CAT scan.

To say Everton fans are pleased with the development we see is an utter joke, this guy is so out of his depth its unreal. We bought into all his bollocks in season one, season 2 we kept the faith but season 3 has shown him for what he is.

This fella has turned Goodison from possibley one of the toughest stadiums to get a resuly into a free for all. I live in Portsmouth and take my son regularly, even he is reluctant to drive up because we never win at home!

This guy is ripping us apart, write out a p45 for him Mr Moshiri and lets see how serious you are with a statement of intent for the next appointment.

In the denial phase of getting the sack. Shame really. If it was Mr Kenwright just making decisions. I would place money on him being here next season.

Let's go out and get a manager with league titles on the CV. A pot of money and sound coaches will make us great again. Those players who want out, get your coat. Sell Lukaku, Stones and anyone else who wants to go. Give the manager £150 million. No Moyes or ex-Liverpool manager please.

This total madness has to stop. The man is deluded. It doesn't matter what ambition he shares with the club and its' tortured supporters. It's the simple fact that he is totally incapable of delivering anything like the progress the club is looking for. The man is a complete basket case. He has to be shown the door. It was 'INCREDIBLE' how awful the first half was, the gulf between the contrasting forty five minutes was 'PHENOMENAL', it just went on to further illustrate the complete lack of consistency shown throughout the whole of this season.

As a 'PROUD' four and a half decade Evertonian 'IN THIS MOMENT' I feel 'HURT'. No more am I along for the ride Roberto, I don't care what you have to say concerning the remaining games of the season, frankly I don't care, I won't be going the game, I won't be listening to the radio, I won't be watching Sky, match of the day.

I don't even care if we finish fourth from bottom as long as you're gone, if not today but at the final whistle after the Norwich game, there is no sense of pride left and this apathetic feeling is not going away.

Oh God I think he really believes what he's saying. I also think that BK believes him as well... and that Mr Moshiri will not want to assert himself just yet. So, no matter how crap we are in the last 4 games, we'll be stuck with this bozo until it's too late to avoid relegation next season.

Bill Kenwright will not sack Martinez. He will be here next year. It is a shame and criminal I know but that is the way he operates. If he can say "what a manager" just a few weeks ago, on the strength of one performance, it tells us everything we need to know about the man. Kenwright is an egotistical, deluded buffoon and it is him that we should be attacking, even more than Martinez. This is Bill's responsibility to put right....but he won't do it. I feel for every single Everton fan at this moment in time. We are suffering slowly from something terminal and there is no relief.

People can sneer at the delusion of this man, I think this report is good news.

"I'm the man for the job" is pretty much what every sacked manager says before the axe comes down.

I can see Moshiri not firing him for another week (worried about the backroom maybe, though we all agree that is the problem), but he will be daft not to have a new manager and entire backroom installed ASAP. That will be when I truly worry.

51 Posted 23/04/2016 at 22:13:13
The man has to be seen to be protecting his reputation and integrity because soon he has to convince another club to hire him. What he is saying is utter BS as we all know. He has been living in lala land for quite some time and doesn't have a clue what success is.

Whilst we all hoped for a turnaround in fortunes by getting at least one result this past week it has just been more of the same.

It was no surprise they didn't get anything out of the game today despite a better second half but as we all know they have been throwing away games late on all season.

There has to be a general clearing out as quite clearly some of this squad are no longer good enough. Baines is becoming a back number and one or two others who have had some purple patches this season must be seriously looked at as inconsistent and let go.

Everyone has their particular whipping boys but before anything starts they have to start at the top. The big names will probably want out anyway so that leaves the older players and the sick-note candidates.

The last decisions of RM should be to play some youngsters in the remaining games as the experienced players won't or can't seem to cut it anymore at least for this season.

Couldn't disagree more with all the anti-Martinez comments and the general Martinez Out momentum of the last few weeks. Only one team can win the league and it is not going to be us at present.

Our league position in the last two seasons could have been better but last season we gave it a good go in the Europe League battering Wolfsburg twice who have only just missed out this year on a Champions League semi-final place.

This season we have been in two semi-finals and have missed out by a whisker in both. The league results have been frustrating especially against Bournemouth, West Ham and Chelsea away.

Martinez is building an exciting young team playing a style of football which I enjoy watching and which gives us a chance of winning silverware. It is still a work in progress but the guy deserves a break and another season at least.

Curious to know how long Moshiri is prepared to sit there like a dupe before he says 'Gentlemen - enough!'

For me, it's now all about Moshiri.

We know exactly what Martinez is all about and we know exactly what Kenwright is all about (anyone reading their brand of bollocks deserves high blood pressure).

What Moshiri's 'plan' is, is the only real unknown at the moment and consequently, the only thing that interests me right now.

You get the picture... If we are to avoid the BK version of Randy Lerner's letter to Villa fans at the end of our relegation season, we must act now. Can you mobilize all ToffeeWebers to use the last games of the season to mount eye-catching demonstrations at the game, on social media and whatever else it takes to be rid of him. After 3 years, with as much money as he needs, and with a sound base from Moyes, it's not the players that are at fault but his system, his tactics, his subs.He is a lovely man but incapable.

John Crook, I don't give a toss any more about the "Everton way". At best it's just rosey spin designed to make us take pride in something other than on-field success. In reality, the true "Everton way" is mediocrity, appalling derby results and not winning any honours.

The club will be hoping we all pipe down now that those nasty two games are out of the way. Because as sure as night follows day, he will still be in charge come the summer, unless Moshiri asserts himself. If he doesn't do that, then brace yourselves for relegation, as we're well on our way to doing a Villa while Martinez is in place.

Definition of madness, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, that's Martinez in a nutshell.

This week was a defining week in our season and just like the last 2 seasons he failed. It will do nobody any favors including him to keep him on the next 4 games, the axe needs to fall now, it's time for him to go.

Lukaku definitely had a poor game, but it wasn't for lack of effort. Same can't be said for Barkley's fake hustle, jogging behind his man but never making an attempt to actually catch up and help defend.

Lukaku had a penalty saved, he missed countless other chances. He looked gutted. But he tried. Sometimes you have a poor game on the biggest stage, it's happened to Ronaldo, it's happened to many a pro.

And Stones, something finally clicked in him in the second half. Where has that been all season? But Barkley, I just don't know what to say about his performance today. He seems a complete shell of his former self, except on a much larger package. He needs a strict fitness regimen over the Summer because he appears to be at least 20 LBS over weight.

Some of the players are culpable, agreed but anyone thinking they are to blame are just as delusional as the manager.

You only have to look across the park to see what effect a change in manager can have. All Klopp has done is get the squad fit and with that they have belief. We look so flat it's frightening and if the cancer of the club Kenwright can't grasp that fact as an Evertonian, apparently, then he is on some sort of scam to defraud the club.

FFS the barcodes came back from 2 down to this fucking average Liverpool side and they are second from bottom. I can't see us beating one team in the top flight at the moment and we're going backwards rapidly.

It's a fucking disgrace and it needs to change and the support needs to do something about it. No more fucking apathy. No more accepting it will do. The money is there now even without Moshiri due to Sky TV. No team is ever too good to go down.

If anyone on here thinks Martinez and Kenwright are good enough for Everton Football Club, I want to hear it. We still aren't even safe... WHAT THE FUCK WILL IT TAKE???!!!

Everton's all round game approach is totally useless. Many teams park the bus even when they are at home but Everton come out and play wide open. Even when Everton do have ten men back, you can drive a bus through them easily.

The marking and tackling is very poor and they get caught in possession far too often. This could be down to the managers tactics or the players incompetence or both. Whatever, it's been a shambles for most of the season and Martinez has not been able to change anything.

Lukaku has been playing alone since Christmas and, apart from an extra hand from Lennon, the rest of his supporting cast (Deulofeu, Kone, Barkley and Mirallas) have been abysmal.

As it looks ever more likely we are not going to see the back of this buffoon anytime soon, how about a 'sit on our hands' protest (symbolic of what Kenwright and the board seem to be doing at the moment) during the lap of 'dishonour' after the Norwich game? No booing or chanting just silence as the team walk round Goodison applauding us!!

I don't know why I'm shocked by his deluded comments any more... But I am!

He's turned us into a 'cup team' that still hasn't come close to winning anything. Our league form over the past 2 seasons has been dreadful and if given another year, I honestly think we'll be close to relegation. I just hope Moshiri has seen enough in his short stint to think the same.

This has to be the final hysterical outpourings from the condemned man, surely. If Moshiri is daft enough to allow his ownership of our club to start with this man staying in charge next season, he is not the owner we want.

I am looking for decisive action here. If the clown isn't sacked before the next match – Moshiri is either using the time to get a replacement behind the scenes up to the end of the season, or he is taking some perverse pleasure in seeing a dead man walking, squirming on the touch line as he faces our wrath till the last match. Put Roberto and us out of our misery.

Regarding the next manager I feel we need someone 'bigger than the club'. What I mean by that is a man who has what the current board seemingly lack: ambition, savvy and a ruthless winning streak.

No nice guys, no glass ceilings, no lazy appointments, no middle-of-the-road safe hands. Someone who will challenge the comfort zones within EFC.

And, no, I can't name too many names (though I've had a couple of glasses tonight).

I'd never heard of Pochettino before Southampton employed him so there must be others out there. There is a club who have displayed far more ambition than EFC these past 5 years. They have overcome the vultures taking their star names and moved onwards and upwards relative to their recent past.

Is thinking big part of Moshiri's plan? Hopefully so and the search for a game-changer is already on.

Currently we are on the road to nowhere and have been for too long. Now might be a great opportunity for the start of something great.

21 trophy-less years and small time thinking (The Magnificent 7th dvd and 'what a manager!' type outbursts) have to end now.

I hope we are seriously looking for a new manager now.I want Martinez gone by Monday morning at the latest. Then I would like to see Kenwright out of our club.
A new successful foreign manager (there aren't any successful British managers)installed asap, ready to build the team and impose his philosophy for the new season.
If Martinez is still here on Tuesday then we really need to put the pressure on and make it very clear that we want him gone.

For God's sake, what will it take to get this limpet off our backs? By his own words this was to be a defining week for us. Well, it's over Martinez and how did we do, a total humiliation at Anfield and we turned up for one half os a semi final where we lost to yet another goal conceded in stoppage time, so there we are, two defining games, two more defeats, scored 1, conceded 6.

Why is he still here? There's no more Everton fir me until the club shows it deserves the loyal support of its followers by getting rid of this failure. If he remains into next season the only way we will be going is down to the championship. I won't stay around to see it. Thankyou Roberto Martinez for souring a 57 year passion for a wonderful football club, but the Everton you have created is like a Frankenstein's monster version of the Everton I've followed all those years.
As long as the evil one is allowed to remain in charge I will no longer be watching the club I love in its death throes. As I now live in enemy territory across the Pennines I will watch Grimsby Town until he's gone. At least there, you know what to expect and don't have a deluded sob telling you what you're supposed to have witnessed even though your eyes tell you something totally different.
Hopefully the club will do the right thing and get rid, if not, it's Blundell Park for me next season, followed by a look for Everton's result.

Either BK has indicated to him that his job is safe or the man is off his head !

My fear all along is that Bill's pride will stop him admitting he was wrong with this appointment and he is still harking back to the Catalan's legacy season two years ago.

Moshiri was a 'non activist' investor at Arsenal and I fear he may be the same here. Things may have to get a lot worse before they get better. Perhaps he's never heard of Aston Villa !

Imagine what Joe Royle must be thinking when he sees RM at work each day? Wins cup in season one, finishes sixth season two, fifth at Christmas in season three then out the door in March. He inherited a team in a Villa like downward spiral. Martinez inherited a team in a Spurs like spot.

I'm sure Martinez thinks if he keeps spouting the same drivel that comes out of his mouth time and again that Kenwright's gonna keep swallowing it!

If by midday Monday this man is still in charge then he must be a master hypnotist. He is single handedly making our Chairman look a right Idiot.

If he's not gone come Monday then I will start to doubt that the Moshiri era isn't going to be what I and others hoped for. The board need to be decisive. They need to show strong mentality by not accepting what's happened not just the last week but the last two years.

Put Martinez out of his misery and show the fans this club means business for once please.

When all is said and done getting away from today's defeat..

What is Martinez' record like in the Premier League as manager of both us and Wigan.?

He has had ONE top half finish in SEVEN seasons..

I'm not really too sure how many other ambitious clubs would stick around too long with a man in charge boasting a record as mediocre...

If we mean business we need a winner in charge, a man who delivers a good game not just talks one..

Hi Brian - as an exile myself who spent about 15 years in Grimsby - met my wife and had our two kids there - and thoroughly enjoyed following the Mariners as my 'second' team, when trips to Goodison were not easy to get to on a regular basis - Blundell Park is a great place to see 'real' football, amongst 'real' fans - although sadly it looks like more play-off heartache might be on the cards again. However, Everton is probably as deep in your soul as it is in mine (dating back to a little 7-year old crying his eyes out on the stairs when a certain Jeff Astle scored in a previous FA Cup final!) and you can never shake it off (although the Johnson years came close to changing that) - no matter how hard you try. Let's hope Martinez goes soon - it shouldn't be a clown who robs you of your blue spirit - so hopefully common sense will prevail in the next week or so from Moshiri and co. Hang in there, Brian!

If his name was Gordon Lee, Billy Bingham, Colin Harvey, Joe Royle or Howard Kendall he'd have been fired or mutual consented out the door by now. The latter three are Everton legends who deserve a benefit of the doubt surely even while struggling. This joker had no association with Everton and would have happily upped his tools and left at the hint of a "bigger" job. BK has gone senile. Like Deadly Doug and his lack of willing to dispose of John Gregory, BK has gone soft in the head.

Our win return these past two seasons is that you would expect of a club fighting to finish 17th..

Last season we went on a run between the end of October to the first week if March having registered just 4 league wins, a run which culminated in losing every festive game to Southampton, Newcastle, Stoke and Hull..
And a total embarrassment in Kiev which still rankles.

This season...

One home win, ONE home win yes, since November 20th...
And just four all season, and just the two clean sheets at Goodison.

Our great away form doesn't look so great when you break it down either..

How Martinez can have the front to suggest the fans can be pleased with some things is insulting the intelligence of paying fans.

What does he mean by haven't invested any money? I might not be the brightest but his statement that included the above I just can't work out.

He has spent a bloody fortune including 㿈mil for Rom, best part of 㾻mil for McCarthy and Niasse, what was it about ٤mil for Kone and best part of ٧mil for Mori, add the wasted cash for McGeady, the wasted wages for Alcaraz, the money spent on an underused Besic and the fact we paid Man City to sign Barry on a free bloody Transfer and ٢mil for Del. then there is loan fees, including for the 1 goal lesser seen Troare. Oh wages for Cleverley whose role at the club appears to be play anywhere do bigger all and how ever much Levy bled us for Aaron "will run all day" Lennon. Almost forgot Holgate, Rodriguez and other youngsters who hopefully will show a few gems in the future.

Not sure of the figures but I swear he spent more in 3 seasons than Moyes in double that, not as if he has sold much either aside from what Fellaini and Naismith?

Martinez has spent a fortune to take our club back over 10 years. Still, he as big a bottler as his predecessor when it comes to the business end of cups.

Lastly Baines missed one penalty, one, how many do the rest of the team have to fuck up until he is forgiven.

Jim #98 I think you can trace it back to the Palace game the previous season for where it all started to go wrong. That game basically put our top 4 ambitions out of the window, and it's been a downward spiral ever since.

Whoever had the idea for the giant mural of him at the start of last season must think it was the worst idea they could ever have.

I agree Kristian

The wheels started coming off during the latter part of his first season in charge and they have never been put back on..

More and more of his weaknesses and flaws have been exposed over the last two years, the inability to start games on the front foot, the lack of fitness, the inability to keep clean sheets, the inability to stay in games and show resolve for more than 10-15 minutes (today another example)

The inability to learn our lessons (Bournemouth and Chelsea away).

Too much, too often..

Brian @ 87, if he stays and you continue watching Grimsby, you may get to see Everton at Blundell Park... in a league game.

Kristian @ 103, precisely my awakening. He drops McCarthy for no given reason, we lose 3-2. Less than 6 months later, we lose at home to them again 3-2. His extended holiday in Brazil when he should have been preparing his players, his continual use of a goalkeeper obviously way past his best, his ridiculous (lack of) tactics and the arrogant 90 min stance all alone with his back to the bench, all display a totally narcissistic moron. Anyone who says he's a nice guy needs to think again, he wants to be a dictator but he really is a clone of Comical Ali, Saddams ridiculously optimistic press agent.

The sooner he goes the better, but one website is reporting our new manager could be David Moyes! It's enough to put you off football.

I've read many of the comments above and really agree. I also feel sorry for him, though. Not because we're so down on him, but because he's totally lost the plot but I still like him as a person. But he's got to go.

His playing style boils down to this: Keep the ball but do nothing with it. When you give it away, make sure your defense is completely out of position to defend. If you somehow don't concede and win the ball back, always play out from the back so that you destroy any opportunity you have to counter-attack. If you concede, then wait 30 minutes until you decide to try to make your possession count so that you can look like you've tried even though 15 minutes isn't close to enough time to ensure a goal. For obvious reasons, it just doesn't work.

Having not fired him after the Derby debacle, I assume he'll stay on until season's end. Then he's got to go. If I understand correctly, Moshiri (or the Russian friend of his sitting on the board) just needs one of either Kenwright, Woods, or Elstone to vote with him, right? If Kenwright isn't willing to take the plunge with Moshiri, surely Woods or Elstone will, right? God I hope so.

I was listening to a podcast earlier today hosted by a Villa fan and two Liverpool fans, and completely agreed with what they said. At the beginning of the season, if you had compared Everton's squad and West Ham's (Payet being an unknown quantity at the time), you'd surely have expected us to finish above them. "They're squad is that of a top 7 side," one said. Another asked, "Then what's the problem?" "Martinez. He's the problem," the first responded, before listing off a series of facts about how bad Wigan's defense was under him and saying ours isn't much better given the difference in quality. They're completely right.

In 4 seasons at Wigan, they allowed 275 league goals. That's nearly 69 goals each season. In the last two seasons, we've allowed 98 league goals, and we'll probably end up with 5 or 6 more by season's end, putting us at over 50 per season. In comparison, in Moyes' last two seasons, we allowed 40 and 39. Then in Bobby's first, 39 went in, showing quite clearly that it was Moyes's leftovers, not Bobby's work, that was keeping the ball out of the net.

It's just infuriating and he must go on May 17th.

Mock (#107), you're right, mate, some of his decisions on and off the park have been mind-boggling. I was a big fan after the first season but started slowly but surely turning.

I think my mind started changing on him when we were losing to I believe Southampton 3-0 last season and he never made a single substitution the whole game, the first time ever in the history of the Premier League except for Arsenal, who won their game. Add that to the fact that he let 3 Belgian gobshites go on International duty spouting off how they were too good for us and needed Champions League football, yes Fellaini, Lukaku and Mirallas all of whom aren't good enough for a top Premier League side, never mind the Champions League.

He also let these gobshites take over the decision making on who took free kicks and penalties, remember the KM debacle, undermined the best Premier League penalty taker in history in Leighton Baines, and so much more. He would probably make a good director of football but as a man-manager he's as weak as piss and needs to be removed immediately.

He should have been sacked after those defeats yet somehow he is still here? It's got worse this season culminating in that defeat today with yet more baffeling decisions.

Why did he play Besic at right back? Why no striker on the bench today? Why did we only start to play once the penalty didn't go in? Why can't we see out injury time?

Utter shite... hapless first 45 minutes. And then we have John Stones bursting thru the midfield and Gibson spraying the ball around. He did well to last so long. We gave Rooney and Fellaini the freedom of the park to dictate the game.

Barkley is not fit, does not pick up a man and meanders back so slowly it does my head in. Had we put in a 93-minute shift with no passengers, the outcome could have been so different.

I can't believe anyone thinks something just "clicked" with Stones in the second half. We started moving the ball quicker, pressing them in possession. Stones loves that – he reads the game, moves the ball early, even glides past a few as the game opens up.

In fact he's been trying to push the team to move the ball quicker in recent games. Only to find the player he passes too is stood still looking backwards or sideways. Far from the epitome of a Martinez team, he's the rebel!

I thought Ross improved in the second half once he was getting the ball in dangerous positions. He was breaking into space and creating chances. He'll never be your Gerrard type but once he starts running he creates problems.

Del scares the shit out of teams. How can Roberto justify his lack of involvement since the days when he was leading the assist charts?

I won't excuse some of the lack of effort from players but the style really isn't helping them. We got a little glimpse of what we could be – exciting, vibrant, pacy.

Yesterday, it just wasn't to be. Be honest... who actually thought we would win?

I did, in the second half; I really did believe the player's came out as a team, did not listen to a word spoken by the man in the brown shoes...came out and played a type of game that suit's.

Wasn't it about 4 weeks that we all thought, we've just been turned over by a bad team.... "and we were" I really do believe that.

Hence the second half we did okay, we had that 10-minute spell where we had them rocking, two wide players on the bench, enough said.

I Really do have a love affair with everything Blue. In the words of Del Boy: "This time next year".

I stood in the Boys Pen and have probably spent more money watching the blues than I have on clothes and holidays combined. That BS merchant just loves his Wembley trips and the occasional European trip.

Anyone remember his interview about Stallone? 'Mark my words, he'll be back before the year is out. He's an Evertonian'.... well that was 9 years ago and we're still waiting, just like we're waiting for the new ground and his manager's dream to come true. One of us, my arse!

If Kenwright once was one of us, he negated that after Wednesday night. No Evertonian would have entertained that embarrassment twice in two years. Leaving Evertonians to face the music alone and be humiliated.

If he had of sacked Martinez and replaced him with Royle, Wednesday night. I might have cut him some slack. As it is he kept with his cup manager, his boy, at the expense of us all.

Martinez's comments reveal to me, they are birds of feather. Completely out of their depth, fantasists who rely on the gullibility of others to keep them in their position.

Summed up perfectly, Brian. Martinez is forever moving the goalposts of success, but he simply cannot escape the facts that are now damning beyond any justification.

We are in a tailspin and RM has shown that he cannot correct it. There are no absolutely zero signs of progress - or even any understanding as to how progress might be achieved.

There is a great big cloud over our club at the moment and we need it shifting as fast as possible. Waiting till the season's end will only breed more discontent from fans and players who want to know where they stand.

A part of me wants to think that he has gone into self preservation mode in a desperate attempt to win some sort of favor with players, fans, and ownership. He has essentially said that he has no intention of walking away, so he will have to be removed.

The worry I have is if "Mister Nice Guy" Bill Kenwright, failed to put a buyout clause in Roberto's contract, and thus we would probably be on the hook for the remainder of his salary if he got fired. Dear God, I hope someone in our front office took notice at how Man U was able to jettison Moyes. Eerie feeling none of our ownership would have thought of that - too negative.

I do hope that he gets the axe, but I think Monday would be the earliest that will happen. Board members and staff travel back Saturday or Sunday morning, emergency meetings on Sunday concerning Roberto's future, then announcements made on Monday. Here's hoping.

Hi David Edwards (#95), yes, it does look like another playoff for Grimsby this season but at least they look like they're trying in every game which is all the fans can ask for.

Like you, Everton is in my blood, but with failing health and the constant failure of Kenwright and the board to rid us of the evil pestilence that is Roberto Martinez, I daren't put myself through any more stress and heartache until he's gone, however long it takes.

I just hope I'm still around to see a new era dawn at GP. If not, it was nice for 57 years... but then along came Roberto!

Surely he will be gone by the time we play Bournemouth. If not, I can see lots of people staying away. If still here, boo him from the minute he walks out. And Lukaku too.

And what's this about a new improved deal for Barkley? He was a disgrace yesterday. Boo him to!

We were genuinely unlucky to lose that game where we had the majority of chances and if we'd really had a 㿞M+ striker leading the line, then perhaps he'd have put away one of the 6 or so clear cut chances he had.

Likewise if Stones had looked to pass a single ball forward, Barkley had tackled back or closed down the opposition rather doing his Pony trot run and Besic not been unable to just stay on the right side and chase down players then maybe the result would've gone our way.

In short the players have to bear some responsibility for this defeat. Having said that, however, it's clear that there are several areas:

i) Playing Besic at right-back when there were clearly 2 better options (ie, actual right backs) on the bench and one on the field (Lennon is a back-tracking / closing-down right-winger)

ii) Training a defence that could previously cope with corners, close down opposition and keep running around after 80 minutes to be able to do neither

iii) Encouraging the crappy tippy-tappy passing across the back which ensured Utd were under no pressure. Only when we went more direct and looked for the forward ball every time did we look to take the game by the throat.

iv) Making too late/random substitutions - Del on was the right move, but why wait EVERY GAME till 70 mins and why leave an out of position Besic, a pretty poor Barkley or puffing Gibson on and take off Lennon? And Mirallas at 90 minutes, what?

v) Having no striker on the bench – admittedly I don't want Kone to ever start for the club, but the option of 2 upfront is at least worth having and what is the point of Niasse? A 㾹M can't get match fit in 3 months of training?

I think Kenwright & Moshri need to make a decision about Martinez sooner rather than later.

I can certainly see Lukaku going this summer plus Stones, plus some of the over 30 pluses Osman/Gibson/Pienaar. We need to get a new man in charge to oversee this as well as replace these players.

I live in the northeast of England, and if Martinez stays, I can see us heading in the same direction of Newcastle.

Following his latest comments, even after this disasterous week, it is clear our beloved RM will never resign. BK still clearly makes the big calls so the dirty deed will fall to him.

What seems to be getting overlooked is the timing. The Euro Chumps 2016 will see both managers and players unavailable or uncontactable for much of the summer. If we accept we need a new manager, at least 3-4 key players and a complete rethink of our playing systems then it is no use waiting till the end of the season. Too late!

Our new leader will probably be under contract so negotiations with the current club need to start today, compensation agreed and Roberto's 'good luck in your new job' card purchased.

Our new manager will then need to present his list of incoming targets so offers can be prepared, decisions made on existing players and backroom staff.

New playing systems, training methods and integrating key players will not happen overnight. We do not want to see 2017-18 written off as a 'getting to know you' season.

In summary Bill, ACT NOW!

I've got an awful hangover and a mouth like a badgers bum. Apart from that I'm fine.

We deserved extra time last night but in most ways, on reflection, it confirmed so many things.

Another last minute goal conceded. Baines not being allowed to take penalties, free kicks etc by his inferiors. No suitable cover at right back (Hibbert?). Only playing for one half. Tactical ineptness with Gibson, who can pass the ball playing too deep and giving two yard balls square or back. Wide open to the counter attack.

McCarthy was non existent, Barkley has the IQ of a duvet and is half a player. Lennon is a grafter as is Cleverley but in any team with top aspirations squad players at best.

I'm depressing myself now and probably need to go back to bed but I've got to go to Mass.

We really need a fresh start as a team and as a club. Messrs Kenwright and Martinez, time to go. Lukaku, Barkley, Mirallas, Stones, it's time to go.

Yesterday's people have no place in tomorrow's Everton.

Agree with many of your points, Chris @145, although I do not agree with your desire to see the back of our young talent.

We need a fundamental change in attitude which can only be brought about by even more changes at board level and of course at management level.

However, the players you mention, under the right structure and coaching , with the right mentality, can become top Premier League performers on a consistent basis.

Barry (144), yes, that's the problem if we wait: the serious risk that we will damage ourselves for next season, maybe irreparably.

As always with Kenwright's Everton, it seems that we will have delay and incoherence and bullshit. If he remains ill then I am sorry for him, but that is precisely why he should now quit his role and why he should not have remained when Moshiri came.

I am afraid he is a self-absorbed and damagingly arrogant man.

I agree Amit (147).

Getting rid of this Manager is fundamental at this moment in time.

Getting rid of our young talent at the same time is ridiculous and sets us back years. The second job Moshiri should have (first is to sack Martinez) is to reassure the new manager coming in that he has this pool of untested talent at his disposal.

When we are in the negotiating point of getting a new manager I'm certain that person will want a bundle of cash to spend, but also access to these same young players.

Steve, I agree that Benitez has galvanised Newcastle, I am referring to the way under John Carver they went on a horrendous run of results last season. They brought in players and new manager, albeit Steve McLaren but could not turn around that horrendous form.

We need to appoint a manager who has the winning mentality, knows how to motivate and get the best out of his squad. Martinez is not up to this, and if he carries on, I can see us following the trend of Newcastle.

Just as many of us are fond of remembering a certain cup match against Oxford Utd, maybe BK recalls that Moyes took the club forwards in his first season (7th place and very unlucky not to qualify for Europe), but this was followed by a dreadful second season (17th and the lowest points total in the club's history). The fantastic third season justified BK's support, and thereafter, things remained relatively rosy for a club with no money.

I know this is Martinez's third and (despite the cup runs) worst season, but BK gave Moyes permanently unwavering support – and I very much doubt he will be any different with Martinez.... sadly.

And still the manager comes out with his garbage. He might be the man for a job – but not this one.

No doubt the first test for applicants will centre around how sympathetic they are to Bill's way of thinking. Many of the names 'in the hat' have worst Premier records than Roberto ! 'Young up and coming managers' may well be more malleable but who wants a guy from the lower reaches or, indeed, another with RELEGATION on his CV ?

I didn't want him in the first place, but he won me over fairly quickly. Then alarm bells started ringing in March of his first season. Since then, nothing has improved.

Last summer, in the knowledge that he wasn't going anywhere, I vowed to be positive and supportive for the season. My valiant efforts lasted until February. I have tried to stay positive for the sake of my boys. They're 10 and 8 and I brainwashed them from an early age to support Everton. We live in Surrey, their mates support Arsenal and Chelsea. I am a terrible Dad. I have inflicted pain and suffering that will only get worse. They cried their eyes out yesterday.

Roberto raised our hopes but has taken us to the depths of despair. His heart is in the right place. I believe he has been laying foundations for the future. But their will be no future in the premier league if he continues to be in charge.

Moshiri wasn't willing to accept Wenger being left in charge at Arsenal. I don't believe he will sit by and allow Roberto to spend his money. Whether Bill likes it or not, Roberto will be gone before next season.

It's time for an end-of-season review and assessment of the results, performances, notables and previous two seasons' reasons. No anecdotals, no emotions – just straight facts.

The footy side doesn't make good reading at all and we have notably this season capitulated more than any other Premier League team from winning positions; we've got the all-time worst home record and lost two semi-finals, both of which we self-contrived to throw away.

Ross is now snacking and carrying too much timber, Rom has lost belief and – as attached as we all are, and have been all our lives, and not getting mega bucks pay as a manager – the whole piece is now ready to be condemned to history.

Time for a fresh era in the summer. We will all end up in the funny farm and compulsive depressives if things don't change. I've nothing left in the tank, the club needs a "Lazurus" type rebirth. See what the Foxes have done and look what Herr Klopp is moulding. I'm hoping some thing real and properly planned will happen soon... Bob Hope and no hope!

The deafening silence coming out of Goodison can only mean he is safe until the end of the season, at least.

Remember, this is Everton. We don't do sackings, we prefer to stumble along in the hope that things will sort themselves out. Bumbling Bill has probably gone into hiding in the hope that most Evertonians will have forgiven and forgotten this latest disaster in a few weeks time. Ride out the storm is Bill's motto.

Moshiri, if he wants a return on his investment, needs to get rid of BPB, ASAP, and root out every last trace of Kenwrightism and his dismal, mediocre mentality which pervades Goodison at every level.

If he really wants to succeed a new manager with an obsessive will to win is a must. A man who will clear out the shirkers, has-beens and hangers on. A man who will be ruthless in team selections, fitness levels and commitment. This rules out the likes of Pellegrini (too soft), Howe (too young), Mancini (too mental), OFM (too shite for words) etc..... There are only two managers who fit this criteria, IMO, and that is Diego Simeone and Ronald Koeman. It's up to you Moshi.

How can Martinez insist he is the man for the job ?
His record in the EPL is so awful, his win rate is a joke. Surely he can't be allowed to spout this rubbish.
There is absolutely no evidence that he will be a success in the future.

He plainly is not good enough and should be shown the door, we should take the necessary steps this week to get rid of him.

If we don't It will cause a huge and dangerous wave of apathy amongst our supporters.
Why should we still care ? If the owner obviously doesn't give a damn about how low we might sink.

Chris @171, I think your assertion that Moshiri swapped his Arsenal shares for those of Everton because he wants Wenger out is misplaced. As a long-term acolyte of Usmanov at the Emirates, he has always supported the Frenchman. Read Usmanov's defence of the long-serving manager only a fortnight ago.

The truth is that the pair's frustration centres on the control of the club exerted by the American tycoon Kronke who annually receives a stipend of some £3M for his services as a Board member.

I don't think for one minute that when Farhad did his deal with Bill and his mates, he thought, for one minute, that there was any crisis over the Everton manager's position and was, therefore, happy to concentrate on the commercial/stadia issues.

The tragedy (both for him and us) is that if he leaves it to Bill much longer, the whole structure will go down the pan. Quickly.

In fairness, BK with his appointment of D Moyes made a good call. He took us, with very meagre resources, from a club looking over the precipice to a club looking upwards. Sure - apart from one season - he never broke through that 'glass ceiling' but love him or hate him he probably kept us in the prem.

This latest appointment is the polar opposite. Starting with DM's foundation which afforded him a half decent first season we are heading back to the edge of that precipice and if BK cannot see that, or simply refuses to face up to it, then illness and age are affecting him badly.

I wish no harm on the guy - I actually like BK and am saddened by many of the vitriolic postings he is the subject of, but I AM a realist and it's fairly common knowledge that he has been (and looks) quite unwell. For his sake if he is going to depart this mortal coil sometime in the non too distant (that could be a couple of years or more) I sincerely hope it is with an upward looking Everton and not with an Everton looking at trying to regain premiership status.

It may go against all his better and humanist instincts but for the good of our club and for his own eventual betterment of mind I wish he would do the deed sooner rather than later. RM will eventually land on his feet and in the short term his financial position will help his suffered pride and you never know - we may all be proved wrong. But right now Goodison Park is not the place for him.

To be fair, this season we were playing some good stuff and easy on the eye, albeit the defence needed some serious looking at. Yesterday was the story of our season really, can't defend properly and not having the nous to see out a game.

I thought Stones was our best player yesterday, and would hate to see him go. At half-time we needed a change, but it was not to be. The game at one point was there for the taking, but managerial decisions cost us, why was Mirallas not on earlier?

I've been watching Everton for over 50 years now and I've sort of got used to this perpetual disappointment. Changes are needed at the top, that's for sure, but we must keep the young players at all cost.

One last note, does anyone else think that Barkley looks overweight?

The only reason he is still in the job is because he has convinced the board he is the right man and in doing so has revealed he has a plan and this is just temporary and things will be great next year (Rodney!)....

So on this basis we ask one thing – share the plan with us. Explain how you are going to make things better, show us that you see the same things we do which is complete disorganisation, lack of a cunning Plan A or B, lack of effort from our big players, no defensive steeliness, no putting fear into other teams, no pride and understanding what it means to wear the jersey – the list goes on...

If Martinez can speak simply to all the fans and explain how he is going to deliver this as per his big chat when he got the job then, us as rational but passionate fans will listen and make a fair judgement. But as it stands he is giving us no reason to back him... in the word so Jerry Maguire, Roberto, "Help us help you...".

Or he has not spoken to the board because he doesn't have a plan and the board have not pressed him for one. How do you run a multimillion pound international company with a history as ours without a plan? I am hoping Mr Moshiri has asked for a plan. My worry is who has he asked to write it.

As for Roberto, he inherited a team that was defensively well organised, was very hard to beat, had fight, effort and as fans we had a grown to believe in. Over three years, his influence has grown and these traits have diminished. That is why his first season was always going to be his best. Adding an attacking mindset to a group of players that were defensively sound was the perfect combination.

The second half yesterday gave a glimpse of what we could have been – Manchester United were there for the taking. We had energy, John Stones found his mojo and we put pressure on the Man Utd defence we had a chance.

One footnote to that is I cannot believe Ross Barkley's unwillingness to chase back harass, give opponents a hard time, use his size to pressure. I saw him do this once in the first half against Rooney when he looked like he got his mad up. Is this coached or is this him? He has all the talent in the world but this side of his game makes him look less of a player. Not our Diamond!!

The new manager does need to be a big name, proven track record as this is where we are now at as a club (performances and stadium aside) and I hope the silence from the board is a measured one as when they speak/act they need to be incisive and impressive.

By the time we move to Croxteth we need to be in the Champions League!

After a very long day yesterday, to have to watch that first half performance and two very long seasons I think we all know Roberto Martinez is not the man the manage our club.

They were there for the taking yesterday, when our players decided to have a go, we made a game of it, which makes the first half even more frustrating!

Although vehemently against it, I can understand why he was in charge yesterday, but enough is enough he has to go, along with Jones and his backroom staff.

Far too many season ticket holders I spoke to yesterday haven't renewed, because we're all sick and tired.

I cannot fathom how this could be the case, but If he is still in post on Saturday, there needs to be an organised walk out during the game. Because love or them or loathe them the Kopites walk out over their ticket pricing got the message across very directly to their board.

Can anyone name a certain thing this season that, as a fan, has pleased them?

I am incredibly calm and reasonable by nature but I get the feeling that Martinez and Kenwright almost want us to tar and feather them out of the club.

Kim #165. Brilliant shout 're: the Real Madrid or Barcelona shout. I also remember a story towards the end of his first season when there was a rumour about Arsenal wanting to bring him in to replace Wenger. Funny how quickly that rumour never 're-surfaced.

Foreign managers, just like foreign players are just mercenaries. They have no affiliation whatsoever towards the club. Players come and go, managers come and go, usually with a big pay off. When Martinez is sacked he will no doubt walk away with about £3M or £4M in his pocket.

Don't see the point in paying him a further £60K per week until the end of the season, or whenever he finally gets the boot. Do it TODAY, NOW, and put a temporary manager in charge. Don't care who. In the meantime, start searching and interviewing potential new managers and then give them the job on May 16th.

The new manager will then have all summer to sign new players, get rid of deadwoood and plan a very strong fitness programme for pre season training.

Bobby can then do what he does best, talk utter bollocks as a panel expert, (Hahahahahahah, can't believe I've said expert) for Euro 16.

If there is anyone who thinks Howe would be an improvement on Martinez after watching Bournemouth's home drubbing on Sky's Goals on Sunday, they must be plain bonkers.

Another 'bright young thing' totally out of his depth in the Prem , he will probably beat us at Goodison on Saturday and then be made Kenwright's new blood brother as our next (what a )manager !

For Roberto Martinez to turn the situation around at our wonderful football club would take a miracle almost as amazing as the raising of Lazarus. As a fan I don't think he can do it based on the evidence of the last 18 months.

It's horrible to be sacked (I know) because it means either you are past you best, not wanted, not good enough, or undermined from above (or below).

So both last season (in February) and this week it took a lot for me to press the "sack him button". When all is said and done he is just a man like the rest of us. But he is very highly paid and in a results driven entertainment business. He hasn't delivered the results and the customers aren't happy with the performances.

Sprooking the "numbers" ( value of squad etc) is the GM's prerogative and won't cut the mustard for the coach. The coach stands or falls by the results on the pitch - that goes with the "patch".

I believe we have been relegation fodder for large parts of both last season and this season. If that is the case it represents a threat to the very existence of Everton Football Club as we know it.

Anyone who loves the club cannot stand by and watch that happen without doing what they can about it and that is why I pressed the button.

Furthermore, when men like Lyndon and fans of 40, 50, and 60 years, say enough is enough, then the Everton hierarchy should listen. Not to do is to court disaster.

As I see it there are only three ways our present manager can part company with the club.

1. Roberto approaches the chairman to discuss an exit package.
2. Mr Moshiri reads RM's tea leaves to the chairman.
3. The fans take direct action and get the attention of the media.

A deal is a a deal and the chairman did a deal with the manager when he extended his contract. For that reason I would prefer to see option 1 play out for the sake of all concerned.

There'll be a lot of hot air expended on this matter over the next few days or even weeks until he's gone.

The Board must address the most urgent matter facing our great club and that's how to get us back among the top performers in the Prem and actually look like we are contenders for silverware. It's evident that Martinez isn't the man to do this. He and his backroom staff lack tactical acumen and in particular defensive nouse. We have probably the best squad since the halcyon days of the mid-80s and find ourselves finishing in disarray and mid-table at best. Two semis in a season isn't bad on the face of it but since the quarter-final win we've been a shambles.

I've been speaking from a football perspective so far but we'd be fools to think that's how the Board will be thinking. Yes, Bill says he's a fan at heart and Moshiri "gets it" but his dealings over the ownership show he is more than aware of the financials of running a club.

The stark fact is that the decision to, God forbid, keep Martinez will depend on their assessment of the financial damage this will do. Every place in the Premier League is a wad of cash we need, every un-renewed season ticket sale is income gone west. Cold hard cash is what drives football these days and we'd be deluded if we thought otherwise. That's why he'll be gone as soon as they consider it doesn't cast them in a harsh light. Martinez will get to the end of the season and then will be shown the door with some grace and a kind pat on the back. Adios, Roberto.

Ronny Deila left Celtic with dignity by accepting that he wasn't up to the job. Roberto Martinez is a very nice fella, he's not a rapist a murderer or anything that deserves the personal abuse he's getting.

What he is, is an average manager so if we want a change then it's simple – if you want him out, do not take your seat for the game v Bournemouth to make your point.

Simple, let's act in a combined respectful way en masse and ditch the disgusting abuse that separates our club from the way all the rest act.

Believe me, guys, we are stuck with Bobby Brown Shoes. A message to Billy Bullshit: as Bobby is such a nice chap, have him as your mate but please do not inflict him on our beloved Everton as he is delusional and not capable of the job.

That's what I thought. However, I wouldn't say Moyes did enough to get sacked, but Martinez a different story. He needs to show us his teeth *BK that is.

No one likes to admit a mistake or error of judgement and as they say - it is a hell of a lot easier to hire than fire - but his ego must be pretty dented by now. Does he not understand that to cut his losses now would regain some credibility. He's got a brain for Christ's sake.

Mentioned by an earlier poster was Martinez approaching Moshiri with regard to a leaving package. The poster has obviously misread, ignored, or not heard Martinez.

Martinez actually believes he's the man for the job and he also believes we've progressed under him. Martinez is that stubborn he hasn't changed tactics when all around saw the need for such a change.

There is NO way that he'll admit defeat and offer to resign. He's too convinced in his own invincibility to do that. He also knows that if he did that he'd lessen his chances of getting another job even more so than if he was just fired.

He HAS to be fired, and he has to be fired on Monday morning so the search for a replacement can begin. Let's be honest his firing is hardly going to adversely affect the results, or the players attitudes is it?

Put Unsworth and Sheedy in charge for the few remaining games, which will give players the chance to see how things can be different, when someone from this planet is calling the shots, and then hire a manager at the top of, or close to the top of the pile.

Forget the up-and-coming Howe, the been-there-before Moyes... go for a well respected, and feared somewhat (by the players at least) manger who can build quickly, and for the future.

Monday morning SHOULD be the start of the recovery from years of mismanagement, lethargy... and fucking pain!!!

Al Reddish. That's just the sort of reaction you'd expect from Bill.

He's the sort who would think the lad who asked is a scumbag with no class and no idea how the finer class behave. He'd have said what he said (if indeed it happened) as a smack in the face to the cheeky little oik who had the audacity to behave in such a way and approach him in the first place.

For all his references to the boys pen, and all that malarkey, Bill Kenwright mixes with, and is friends with, minor royals, landed gentry, billionaires, and as such would view that lads approach (if it happened) as the action of somebody who should not be allowed within a mile of the likes of himself.

Bill lives in a different world, inhabited by totally different people, with totally different (and skewed) views of the world.

They look after "their own" and wouldn't dream of putting one of "their own" down in front of one of the lower classes.

Martinez verbal diarrhoea following the game yesterday just goes to show what a deluded twat the guy is. We meekly rolled over in the first half looking too scared to give it a go.

The second half was an improvement but not enough quality or composure in the final third to take advantage of the chances created.

After the sucker punch second Utd goal he brings on Mirallas for the last minute of injury time, Mirallas should have been brought on at least 10 minutes earlier when Utd were there for the taking but Martinez as ever couldn't see it or just plain bottled it.

He has to go and if the board are not prepared to make that decision voluntarily then we the fans need to force the issue, fuck this apathetic stance that this is not the 'Everton way' if you truly love the club 'stand up' and make your voices and feelings heard and seen.

If Martinez is not gone by the next home game then this means banners and a pitch invasion at full time for the next game then so be it otherwise these fuckers on the board and that incompetent charlatan of a manger will take this great club of ours down to the Championship!

I posted the other day that the only way to get rid of Bobby is for Bill Kenwright to see that there is a crisis. Getting royally stuffed at Anfield in the worst display ever and then losing another semi-final, after a second season of worryingly poor, inconsistent and inept football that sees us within a few points of a relegation spot, losing the fans, losing the players is apparently not enough of a crisis.

The strength of feeling about Bobby means nothing if confined to posting on TW and media sites. Needs to translate to action or BK isn't going to see it. As unseemly as it may appear and not the "Everton Way", the next and final two home games are the place to make the point.

Another point I should have made in my post above is that, after the final whistle all the players came across to the supporters them for the support which was fantastic all day.

From where I was sat behind the goal, Martinez was nowhere to be seen yet he preaches about 'for the fans' in his post- or pre-match drivel yet shows the fans no respect after the final whistle. What a cunt! It was the same at Anfield which just goes to show how much disdain the twat has for the supporters.

He may think he can act this way without any kind of retribution from the fans but I think he'll be getting a rude awakening very shortly.

Mark @220 you're last paragraph nails it. It is always 4-2-3-1; square pegs in round holes; possession over goals; slow, one-paced game plan; no threat from attacking set-pieces; no clue defending set pieces; pre-planned substitutions that, if they take place, bear no relation to events on the field...

And so on. Never changes. We must be dream opponents.

This fifth generation Blue couldn't even be arsed watching either game, and I won't bother watching again until Moshiri starts making some decisions. The whole Bill Kenwright era has been a fucken shambles, and the finale truly is the icing on the shit sandwich that is Everton.

Obviously the Chelsea Quarterfinal was fantastic but I believe it was really just Rom with a chip on his shoulder and a bit of fire in the belly. Arsenal was as bad as I've seen, and Man Utd in the League, Watford and Palace were just soporific.

The social contract in football has changed: as players have become exponentially richer, so they have become more and more disconnected from the fans. Gone are the days of Labone and West. They're all just fucken mercenaries these days. Ditto the owners and managers.

The only ones who give a shit are us, the fans. That's why I've stopped watching and just follow the Blues on here now. Reading about it is much less painful than watching. Sharing the pain with the other Bluenoses here is cathartic and healthy, certainly better than throwing yet another phone at a wall in sheer anger and frustration.

It's Everton I love and Bluenoses I respect. Kenwright, Martinez and Lukaku can all fucken do one as far as I'm concerned. We were here before them, we'll be here after them.

Madness is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Watching Bobby's and Billy's 2016 Everton is madness. Martinez Out. Kenwright Out.

Paul Tran
224 Posted 24/04/2016 at 14:19:13
Yesterday we were shite in the first half and spirited in the second. We were playing a team that, for me, are an expensive version of what Martinez gave us in his first season; solid, unspectacular, hard to beat, with the odd bit of flair to make something happen. Plus, a level of determination that has been missing from us for two years.

Interesting that in the last few days Martinez has delivered two press conferences with statements which would have been bang on the money at the end of his first season. Finishing fifth, I would have taken his 'trying to win things rather than finish in the top seven' mantra at face value.

Similarly, the 'investment' argument would have held up then as well. The club gave him £32m for Fellaini and Anichebe, which by then hadn't been spent. He'd stated we needed 'seven players', which most of us agreed with, but I think he tried to bounce Bill into splashing the cash and Bill rebuffed him, until we bought Lukaku. That meant we were short on quality for his second season and it showed, with the momentum grinding to a halt. Not helped of course, by his dreadful fitness and game management.

For me, with hindsight, that was it with Martinez. I think he started losing the players with his seven new players remark, then by damaging their fitness levels. In the absence of new players, he then abandoned his promising, balanced Plan A and replaced it with his let's play everyone out of position and leave Rom on his own formation. Oh, and he's spent plenty of money, often on players that 'will be good in time'.

The rest is history. In the light of his last two mid-table seasons with dreadful football and stagnating talent, his last two pressers have been an embarrassing sequence of nonsense, in which the last two years have been airbrushed out of sight.

He could gracefully resign and wish ruefully that things might have been different if Moshiri had appeared two years ago, but he's hanging on, desperately recalling his first season and publically urging the club to back him or sack him, without jeopardising any compensation.

If the club wants to back him, they need to do so quickly. I hope they are working behind the scenes to replace him with someone proven, rather than any one Blue with a pulse. If we really have significant money now, surely compensation for sacking Martinez and paying a new, better manager is possible?

I can't believe they think he can turn this around. Let's stop the circus and do it quickly.

Mark @ 220 you are entitled to your opinion but Martinez not thanking or acknowledging the fantastic support yesterday is indefensible. If I was in his shoes, thanking the fans for their support is the minimum he should offer.

If the players after the display at Anfield on Wednesday had the courage to acknowledge the supporters following a performance like they delivered, that shows the respect that the players have for the supporters but Martinez is somehow immune to having to show respect.

If he had a pair, he would have come across to thank the supporters but he doesn't have the balls to face the music so why should he be let off scot-free? Fuck him and any sympathy anyone wants to show him, his contempt for the supporters should and will not be tolerated.

In fact, I'd go as far to say he hates the fans, the way he treats us with contempt. Let's be fair here, any other manager would have been removed on the home record alone... but no, not on Bill's watch.

I don't think Roberto will be sacked before Christmas I think the new investor will grill him on his strategy, tactics per game, use of subs and his purchasing of new players.

They should ask why he lost so many games and go through them i.e. WHU and WBA. Why buy a player for so much and not use him?

Then I think they will ask him does he consequently need any new players and who and why? Then they will want to know game by game where where he thinks Everton will be at Christmas if we buy those players.

If he says he cannot predict us beating WBA or Watford then they will show him the door but he will not say that. So if by Christmas we are not standing at 38+ points in the top 8 then he will be gone by mutual consent.

Eddie Howe has been touted as being the successor to Martinez. This reeks of BK; He is an Evertonian, it will be like getting a young David Moyes, soo romantic! Eddie Howe would have been OK after Moyes but not now. We need quality to keep our better players, we need a star manager.

The only way Eddie Howe would work is tied to the appointment of a footballing wise director of football. I am not talking about an old Evertonian, I am talking about Hiddink, Capello, Lippi, Bielsa – people with a wealth of experience. Not keen on this set up though.

I'm interested in who is actually qualified to know who to appoint as a new manager (at any time). OK, we the fans have our views but who among us really is qualified to make a judgement (just look at the range of competing views and reasons).

We can't assume (we don't assume!) that Bill or anybody else on the board has a clue. Does anything qualify Moshiri to make a judgement? I doubt it. So who would / should he take advice from?

Amit Vithlani
237 Posted 24/04/2016 at 15:14:28
Frank 237 nice idea in theory but in practice it comes down to his contract, which we don't know the details of.

1-What did Elstone and BK negotiate as far as termination rights are concerned? Does the club have to pay up his contract in full? If yes, as many have noted, it becomes an expensive decision. However the cost of getting rid of him has to be weighed against the cost of not getting rid of him. Falling attendances, less prize money, lower player valuations etc.

2- Were any performance related clauses included? League position, points per game, time frames for silverware etc?

3- Who does Martinez report to? The board, Elstone, BK?

4- What does the Shareholder Agreement between BK and Moshiri say on the subject of governance, especially the hiring and firing of the Manager? Does it need a simpele board majority, does BK have veto rights?

Your scenario would be realistic if

Under 1- cutting him loose is outweighed by financial losses by him staying;
Under 2- the answer is yes

Under 3- the Board

Under 4- Simple majority with no veto rights.

In any scenario where BK's say prevails, it is a complete guess how much more time the Hansard of Hogwash, aka the Purveyor of Piffle aka Roberto Martinez is given.

I don't think Martinez will be sacked before the end of the season. And it will have some logic to it: he should have gone ages ago, but to sack him now would make it look like they're letting him go for losing an FA Cup semi-final, which would look as illogical as keeping him should he have won the Cup.

BK may look like a sentimental bloke but, in his heart of hearts, he surely must realise we're not going anywhere with RM. Plus, he might still be chairman, but Moshiri certainly didn't buy up a 49.9% stake to let somebody else make the big decisions for him.

"They're letting him go for losing an FA Cup semi-final..."

Ummm... Ya we are because it's not good enough and that's exactly why I should have woke up to "Martinez Sacked" headlines.

When is someone on this board going to stand up and make a bold decision?

It's demoralizing.

Jimmi James

Told you people my mate who works there is convinced Martinez is staying next season, now that's not nailed on but that's the general rumour around the club on the inside.

Personally, I (like many) think he should go but I tend to agree with whoever said Kenwright will be making the decision as Moshiri won't want to rock the boat too early into his relationship with the club. As far as I'm concerned, the boat's sinking but, hey ho, I'm only a supporter – what do I know?

Does anyone know who the frontrunners are if RM does go, not the ones we wish for but who is being touted strongly for the job?

Bournemouth looked so bad against Chelsea yesterday that I confidently predict our biggest win of the season come Saturday.

That should calm us, the angry masses, and allow the useless Board to prevaricate until the end of the season. If, by any chance, we get top half then Bobby is all ours for another season!

Read it in my tea cup!

Why shouldn't Martinez believe that he is the right man for Everton, after all there is an average of over 38000 supporters come to watch his team's at Goodison so both him and the chairman must believe that he is doing ok.

The only thing that this board are worried about is money, and as long as the money keeps coming in they will not make any changes.

If supporters are going to go to the next game then they will have to really make their feelings known, preferably by informing the media that there will be a mass walk out at the next couple of home games at a certain time to show their displeasure at the manager.

Frank de Boer at Ajax?? Played at the best club in Europe, and over 100 caps for Holland, so knows what it's like to win and would command respect from playing at that level – unlike Martinez and his backroom team!

Plus style of play and he would know what's it's like working with the academy etc, so you would think he would look to bring the young players that are good enough through! Surely no-one wants Moyes back... or even Eddie Howe!!!

So it's looking increasingly likely that Leicester will clinch the title against us in the penultimate game of the season. One final indictment for our supporters seeing a team wearing royal blue shirts and white shorts parading a trophy and it's not going to be us... again.

Despise Martinez more and more with each passing day he is still in a job, please run him out of town so we can all get back to being behind the team we all love so much. Give us our Everton back!

If he's still the manager on Saturday, then I will be flabbergasted, and I suggest we start by contacting the club using it's online contact service and respectfully and objectively express our concerns.

If enough fans do it, surely they'll take note.

We're at home on Saturday and the atmosphere will be toxic if he is still in charge.

He will be sacked this week.
Not today though.

Walter smith was the last Everton manager sacked. Funny, however, that when I checked back on the news report from that sacking that he was defined as a "close friend of kenwright".

Brian Porter
261 Posted 24/04/2016 at 17:29:52
With you all the way Matt #264. If messrs Kenwright, Elstone, Woods and Moshiri (if he has an Everton email address) would have to take notice if their inboxes are full every morning with fans demanding, pleading or plain asking nicely for them to take action to remove Martinez as our manager forthwith.
Surely most of us can spare ten minutes to write an email then copy and paste it to new emails to each of them, maybe another ten minutes work. That's less than thirty minutes each that could have a major positive effect on the future of our club.

Thomas @260 I really hope match goers make themselves heard on Saturday. Its a nothing game so not likely to get media billing but a protest will certainly keep us on the news agenda.

I see Palace are beating Watford in the other Semi to set up a repeat of the 1990 final. Back then an under pressure Utd manager fielding a couple of young guns in his team won the cup to save himself from the sack. The comparison with Van Gaal is eerie.

Later that summer, the Blues sacked Colin Harvey, by all accounts a nice bloke, but who had overseen a decline in league performances sprinkled with a cup run, and replaced him with his predecessor. If the rumours of Moyes re-appointment in the summer are true, it will represent quite a set of historical co-incidences.

So painful reading all the posts and the total dejection amongst us all made worse by the anxiety and fear that the idiot won't be sacked tomorrow, or at worst, at season end.

If he has not gone by Saturday the protests must be long loud and latitudinous ( needed third L)

As a thespian, perhaps BK should look from advice from another Bill, the greatest playwright of them all, and practice the following lines to be spoken on the morn of the morrow:

"Roberto, Roberto, wherefore art thou Roberto?

"To thine own self be true. Thou loseth too readily, thou doth not speaketh verily and thou doth protest too much, methinks.

"That it should come to this! Parting is such sweet sorrow, we have seen better days.

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. But thou art just a tosser so farewell and exit left!"

There's no way Kenwright will sack Martinez. His ego is far too big and sacking him would be an admission he cocked up which he will never admit. Martinez will only be sacked if Moshiri has had enough.

It's easy for armchair supporters like myself - us who would love to be at Goodison but are not able to go to matches regularly because of simple geography - to call for action from the crowd. But if he is not removed now I seriously hope that the fans will send a very loud and strong message to the board at the Bournemouth game.

Paul 264. I said exactly that on different thread before the match. Described it as the 'Di Matteo effect'. I didn't think it would lessen our chances certainly and I think the crowd would have been even more up for it if that is possible.

If he is not dismissed then I urge all fans to boycott our remaining games home and away. Nor should any season tickets be renewed. If the Board treats us with contempt then they forfeit our loyalty.

Our greater loyalty is to the future of the club which demands the removal of the manager. Simple really, but we must all act in a unified way.

If we as fans don't act to save Everton as a Premier League team – and I think it's that serious – then we are full of shit.

I think RM will be here until December and then, depending on if we are bottom six and sinking, he will go. I hope he has gone by season's end but I won't hold my breath.

But one thing is certain, we will all still support our club no matter what.

Paul Johnson

Well said, Tony. The board might want him to stay and nothing would surprise me tbh... but it is up to us the supporters to chase him out of town.

Rather than boycott, I'd like to see mass protests across the stands at Goodison both before, during and after the game. We should not lie down and take anything less than the dismissal of this fraud.

Tony Hill
277 Posted 24/04/2016 at 21:41:46
Both Pauls, as others have said today, we need to hit our complacent masters in the pocket. Kenwright, behind his windy nonsense, is a greedy bastard. So is Moshiri. That's why they're wealthy.

See how quickly Bill's heartfelt loyalty to Martinez evaporates if he sees his money under threat.

I hope the rumours of Martinez's sacking are true. If they are, it will be purely for financial reasons. Everton's soul doesn't live in the Boardroom.

Ray Robinson

The second half football played at Wembley is the footy we all want to see. Lukaku needs a partner and for a while Kone provided that. If for some reason Martinez decides that's the way we can play going forward then perhaps he will get another chance.

When you look across the park and see how much they spent on players we have been quite frugal in comparison, having to sell to buy. Even Lukaku is being paid for on the drip.

We all knew we needed a keeper and a commanding central defender. We also know that Ross Barkley cannot do the midfield job we want... well, just not at the moment.

We saw on Saturday that we don't need Barry when we have Gibson. I can see that we have been limited by funds. As a manager you take these things into consideration and play to your strengths.

If it was player power on Saturday, then Martinez has no future.

The new chap in the boardroom is not going to invest £200 million and watch this shite. He could have stayed at Arsenal and made a steady profit year after year.

Martinez is not good enough. Other managers have done better at other clubs and been sacked. Why are we questioning Martinez going?

Clive (#267) – spot on. This isn't about doing the right thing by Everton Football Club. This is about being wrong on appointing Roberto in the first place.

Our new investor wants progress. For the first time, we have serious money to put into the team and ground. Let the man take us forward !

How much of this nonsense do we have to put up with? I don't want to hear any more of his drivel or excuses.

Kenwright should get into gear and do the right thing by the club and supporters... it would be even better if Kenwright departed also – he has been holding the club back for years. The next few weeks will be very interesting.

The really good players we have are being ruined by Bobby Brown Shoes, they will be much better off and fitter when he has gone. Let's hope it is very soon...

My nightmare is that he will see out the full duration of his contract and that only Everton rooted to the bottom of the League might persuade our deluded Board to sack him. Or maybe they will if we're relegated. If he had a shred of integrity he would resign.

I do not give a crap about the manager, as a player it is your DUTY to show up to a semi final and fight tooth and nail from the start.

Judging by the lack of effort in that first half Martinez was not even able to motivate them.

That to me says that there is a negative mood in the squad as a whole.

As I and others suspected, not sacking Martinez before the semi final has cost us the FA cup.

After the pitiful showing against the reds he has to be sacked, there is no other alternative.

Why is he still here? What progress is he talking about cause if anything, we've dropped from our top 7 level in the last 2 years.

He's bought players who can't perform and I'm not talking about Niasse just yet. Playing a system which has many flaws especially in defense as a team. What bollocks, RM?

I know so much about football that just TWO weeks ago I struck a series of bets that will pay off if Everton beat Bournemouth, Sunderland and Norwich and thus reach 50 points by season's end.

I am still confident that these bets will pay-off and I shall certainly lump on some more about us winning by a margin this Saturday. Bournemouth really are Wigan of the South Coast !

Of course, if my vision is realised, it has a distinct downside in that I believe a halfway spot in the Premier allied to his relatively successful cup(s) campaign will be just enough to give Roberto another season.

So what a dilemma! Perhaps I should just stop gambling on Everton's results (I never bet on them to lose!) and get myself into full throttle for the 'Martinez Out' campaign. Any advice welcomed.

Just read his article in the Echo defending Lukaku for half a season of open goals missed in one game.

"Sometimes it does not matter if the chance is missed, you have to give credit to the goalkeeper"...

"The missed penalty was not a worry either" he says.

GET HIM OUT... he is round the bend... we can soon get another nutcase to see the season out.

Jimmy (#285),

You are right in what you say. However, if you don't play the Martinez way, you don't play.

So if selected, do you follow the manager's instructions, or sit on the bench because you dared to question the fool, or even more so, speak out against him.

Did Leighton actually apologise for his comments, or was it part of Martinez's fantasy world?

I didn't see Mirallas demonstration for the ludicrous substitution with less than a minute left. I recorded the match, but deleted it without watching it.

What did Mirallas do?
