Jones leaves Everton for Fleetwood

Gethin Jones has completed a move from the Blues to Fleetwood Town this week.

The Finch Farm Academy product has been a regular for the U18s, U21s and U23s in recent years and captained those Everton teams while also breaking into the Welsh U21 side.

Over the past couple of years, Jones has had loan spells with Plymouth Argyle and Barnsley.

Now 22, the right back hasn't been able to get close to breaking into the Blues' first team, however, and has sought a move to the lower leagues to kickstart his career.

The Australia-born Jones will link up with his ex-Everton team-mate Conor McAleny at Fleetwood.

Good luck to the lad. Would be a good move for him. At 22 time is right to get regular first team football somewhere.

Seen him play quite a bit and I like his attitude. Always gives it a go strong in the tackle and likes to get forward from RB. Not suggesting he's as good as Kenny or would carve out a career with us but I hope it turns out for him if he goes.

I thought he was one that might make the grade; but he should be playing first team by now, so this is probably a good move for him.

Good luck to the lad.

Good luck to Gethin, who was in my view solid and reliable, and should do well in his future career in football.
