Nice, James. Hope they ease him back gradually – playing at least 3 to 4 U23 games (30 - 60 mins ).

As soon as our Seamus is back playing regularly, I would give him the captains armband. He's been a massive miss for us.

Anybody know if it's possible to watch the game when I get back from watching the live game?

Great news that Seamus is back on the pitch. Hopefully, James McCarthy's unfortunate accident on Saturday, won't have any impact on him mentally.

Thanks Steavey and Mike for links. Looking forward to this.

I can't find our starting line-up yet, but I see Oxlade-Chamberlain's brother is playing for Pompey.

Just searching for the line-up and found this highlight reel of U18 game and a goal by Anthony Gordon is of particular interest at about 55 secs. Let's hope he continues in this vein.

There was a good turnout to see Seamus return to competitive action and a few serious Pompey fans made there voices heard, at least at the start – they were never really in the game after that.

Most interest was on Seamus but he had little by way of defensive duties (one lunging touchline tackle apart) and he made sure not to exert himself too much going forward. He will be satisfied with his night's work and seemed in slightly better shape than did Bolasie on his return so he should be in the first team squad in the next game.

The other fullback, Luke Garbutt, also had a bit to prove and he was much more prominent in attack and linked well with his forwards as well as delivering well from set-pieces. He also wasn't tested defensively but he certainly adds more going forward than Cuco.

Everton were not put under much pressure defensively but I thought Gibson had a good first half when Pompey did mount some attacks. He's a strong lad, nobody beat him and he got one good block in as well as looking comfortable bringing the ball out.

Our midfield was just too good on the night. Evans, Baningime and Adeniran played well together, using short passes to create space for Evans to run into and deliver three excellent shots from distance that brought good saves from the Portsmouth keeper. Evans certainly lived up to his recent comment that he wanted to add goals to his game and he was unlucky not to score tonight.

Hornby continues to impress. He really puts in a shift as well as being a presence challenging for every high ball and winning more than his share and his ball control reminds us that he came through as an attacking midfield player till he sprouted.

I liked Broadhead on the left wing. He has plenty of skill and took his goal very coolly although he missed another good chance when his shot came at waist height instead of along the floor. He went off following a collision and stocky Jose Baxter came on but by then the game was won.

Sambou scored one excellent goal, curling a right-footed shot over and around the keeper from the corner of the box; his second was a rather scuffed effort. But he was caught offside continually and, although he's strong, he didn't seem to have the pace to take advantage of the through balls his midfielders were firing his way. He gave way to Dyson late on; Markelo replaced Seamus.

So, an enjoyable night for Evertonians.
