Season › 2017-18 › News U23s held by Barnsley in Premier League Cup Friday, 9 February, 2018 1comment | Jump to most recent Everton U23s could only draw 0-0 with Barnsley this evening in the Premier League Cup action at the Merseyrail Community St adium in Southport. The tie was originally slated for 3 January but fell foul of the inclement weather and kicked off at 7pm this evening. The young Blues, who have played only three games in the competition so far, could closed the gap on Group F leaders Leicester City with a win, but have dropped two vital points. David Unsworth's side had numerous chances to break the deadlock as Bassala Sambou, Josh Bowler, Fraser Hornby, Shayne Lavery and Nathangelo Markelo all went close. But the hosts could not find the back of the net on a frustrating night, with the sides meeting again for the reverse fixture in the competition in Yorkshire on Monday afternoon. Everton U23s: Hewelt, Markelo, Collins (71' Baxter), Denny, Feeney (C), Gibson, Evans, Grant, Hornby, Sambou (55' Lavery), Bowler (71' Henen). Subs not Used: Hansen, Ouzonidis. Hence, surprised that he did not play against Barnsley.
