Sigurdsson out for up to two months

Gylfi Sigurdsson is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks because of his injured knee but could be fit for the World Cup.

The Icelandic international sustained the injury during the first half of last Saturday's win over Brighton and it was initially feared be could be out for months with serious ligament damage.

Subsequent scans and an assessment from a specialist have allayed those fears, however, and while he is unlikely to play for Everton again this season, he retains hope of leading his country in Russia this summer.

"We'll continue to assess his progress on a week-to-week basis," said manager Sam Allardyce. "The medical team will work very closely with him, to get him back playing as quickly as possible."

The more things change, the more things stay the same, well with us anyways.

We need this like a Lokh in kop = hole in the head, already!

Let's see what has he provided so far. A wonder goal in Croatia, a neat but pointless goal at Anfield and lots of nothing performances in or out of perceived best position. Now a bad injury and off to the recovery room for who knows how long.

In summation, a poor return so far on the outrageous £45 million laid out for his services.

Lenny (#2),

I agree with you that £45m was a hefty fee and was way above the true value of the player, however, I think he has offered more than most of the other players recruited last summer and I feel that his best is yet to come.

The player doesn't set his transfer value and he wouldn't be the first player to choke when a huge fee has been paid. His injury has come at an unfortunate time for him and the club because in recent matches at Goodison he has started to look the player we all hoped he might be.

Another disappointing statistic to a season of disappointments. It is a good job we only need circa 3 points from the rest of the season. No doubt this will give Allardyce just the excuse he needs for an ultra defensive line-up against the mighty Stoke on Saturday.

Very disappointing. I see him as being one of our better performers this season after he got himself fit (he'd no pre-season remember – training on his own at Swansea etc.).

We'll miss his creativity in the Goodison Derby for sure; if Allardyce was to play him of course.

What a horrible season – at least bringing in a new Manager now would change the mood and raise some expectations; especially when this arsehole is telling us that he's going for a strong defense on Saturday at Stoke!

Oh Shit. Schneiderlin will now definitely be back in the starting 11. Nil points guaranteed. However, it's not as if we have a shortage of No 10s is it?

A pointless end to the season coming up. Let's see what Klaassen can do in that role in an extended run. Then we'll know if he's worth keeping next season or not.

I like the player and wish him a speedy recovery. Do believe we paid over the odds when you consider the prices paid for other players.

I agree with Michael (#9). This is the time to start using and evaluating Klaassen.

That Koeman could persuade Moshiri to go to £45M for such an average player shows what a soft touch he is. Would't be surpised if he wasn't a shareholder in Toys R Us!

Klaassen or Vlasic in at Number 10, keep the same shape.

But I cannot see further than Allardyce shunting Rooney in there and bringing in the French No 2.

Losing a footballer for a few weeks doesn't seem such a disaster when you consider we have just lost one of the funniest men and one of the finest brains this country has ever produced.

So sad about Jim Bowen. “Here's what you could have won”

Phil Walling – I did hear Moshiri had shares in Woolworths and he nearly took Bill's advise to revive Ethel Austin?

While I appreciate we paid over the odds for Sigurdsson, I still think he is a good player, who seemed to be adapting to whatever system we play quite well.

Still, you have to cope with injuries, as part and parcel of the game. Lady Luck has chosen one of our better ones.

Joe @18, have a job with Ethel, rigor mortis has well set in. :-)

When played in his right position, he is our best player, alongside Walcott and Coleman.

Big loss, but this season is a write-off, let's give Klaassen and Grant a chance in the final 8 games in the No 10 position, see if they have anything to offer next season.

Keep Rooney as a deep-lying midfielder and keep Schneiderlin on boot-cleaning duty.

Terry @ 22, I will be at the head of the queue to be positive, and supportive of the club, players, board and even Fat Sam the manager as soon as they do something to deserve it.

I'm afraid I can't come out with meaningless platitudes just because Sigurdsson gets injured when he hasn't shown anything near the standards of a £45 million player.

If it had to happen, better he's out now, recovered by end of May. Because he's going to play in the World Cup.

If he stayed healthy straight thru, Sigurdsson would get no time off before the season starts. On the assumption (fingers crossed) we get a good manager in for next season, I'd rather Siggy's legs aren't tired.

He's not world-class, but he is a first-rate footballer. It'll work out well for us next season.

As previously pointed out, Sigurdsson did not put that price on his head. And we as fans did not have to pay for him. He is still a very good player who adds something to the team and he is only as good as the players around him allow him to be.

I think he will be missed but as a Premier League team we should be able to cover for him. Other than that, I just wish him a speedy recovery.

Kudos then to Klaassen who chose not to go out on loan. He'll pick up the slack well enough to prevent us from being relegated.

Get well soon, Siggy!

I doubt there's ever been a Premier League club, ever, who began a season with such glaring weaknesses in really important aspects of the squad. January brought some correction, except in defence.

The result of this monumental failure by those cowering under the Director of Football umbrella is that Siggy has spent way more of his time on the left wing than he could ever have imagined, channeling back to cover for a patently inadequate left-back, which he could never have imagined, and having next to nobody with the aura of a goal-threat about him in the forward-line, which he could never have imagined.

Apart from that he's lately looked like the excellent footballer some of us saw playing for Swansea and Iceland, with proper forwards and things in front of him. Maybe next season I suppose, if we can do things right for once this summer.

Season's over anyway. Perhaps he will give Klaassen and others a chance maybe. Who knows what we might find.

Bobby (#30),

Little surprise really seeing as we have spent every season in the Premier League since its inception, guess where we are in the overall league table?

Yup, you guessed it, in 6th position behind Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs. But in seventh place on Win percentage, Points per game, as Man City are above us in both of those.

I hope you're not blaming Sigurdsson for that, Bobby – just saying!

Until he's actually played in his natural position, in a consistent fashion, with in-form players around him, many of the criticisms leveled against will be baseless. Hopefully our next manager will recognize how to use his skill set.

Bobby. that's right, mate, most games lost in the Premier League era. Plus most red/yellow cards and most goals conceded.

Two ways of looking at it. Pride in that we are still there despite being poor, underfunded and relegation candidates too often. Days long gone. Disgraceful that for too long we were poor, underfunded and relegation candidates

We are one of only seven ever-presents in the Premier League era.

John Smith

We've played the most games in top flight English football. Played for more top flight seasons than any other English Team. Scored more goals in top flight football.

So that would make sense.

"Did you know that Everton have lost more Premier League games than any other team? Just saying..."

How do we come out in the rankings if you calculate losses as % of games played?

Joe McMahon (#18). I was once barred out of Ethel Austin. My wife asked me to pop in and pick up a pair of tights, the ones made by Ophelia. I walked in and said to the sales assistant, "I'd like Ophelia tights please." She called security and I was thrown out.
