Season › 2018-19 › News Hornby signs professional forms with Everton Lyndon Lloyd Wednesday, 4 July, 2018 41comments | Jump to most recent Everton's up-and-coming Under-23s striker Fraser Hornby has agreed a three-year contract with the club. The 18-year-old Scot agreed terms on a deal that runs until June 2021 — recognition of his rapid progress in David Unsworth's team in the second half of last season after making his first-team debut in the Europa League against Apollon Limassol in Nicosia, Cyprus, last December. “Every young lad's dream is to become a professional footballer and it's my first professional deal so I'm just delighted and I can't wait to get started now,” Hornby told evertontv. “It's been a memorable 12 months, considering at the start of last season I was coming back from a long-term injury. “My main focus was just getting back playing again, scoring goals, and I had a few chances with the Under-23s. It was crazy season but full of memories and hopefully this year will bring a few more. “Making my first-team debut was just an amazing experience. The whole occasion, travelling with the team, it being an away game, seeing all the fans - hopefully I can get more experiences like that in the future.” Reader Comments (41) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Derek Knox 2 Posted 04/07/2018 at 16:31:53 Good news, big lad, who's probably still growing, could be like Harry Kane, as an old fashioned style Centre Forward, with a bit more polish and development. Tom Bowers 3 Posted 04/07/2018 at 16:33:30 Let's hope he becomes the real deal ! Peter Gorman 4 Posted 04/07/2018 at 17:13:22 A very good prospect is young Fraser. Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 04/07/2018 at 17:26:31 He looked very good at the end of last season, worked well with Antony Evans until Evans was injured, both very good long term prospects, I'm hoping Domonic Calvert Lewin is the immediate young striker who will prove his worth in the coming season, he just needs to get among the goals, not a lot wrong with the rest of his game. Rick Pattinson 6 Posted 04/07/2018 at 17:39:16 I heard he's good at training .get it get it...training .Hornby trains ooooh I'm here all week Steve Ferns 7 Posted 04/07/2018 at 17:51:54 Remember whilst he looks and plays like an old fashioned no9, he's actually a midfielder who had a growth spurt and so was converted into a striker. As a result he has a decent all round game. Tony Everan 8 Posted 04/07/2018 at 18:06:12 I am glad he has been given a contract, he is definitely one to follow .And if we are doing this silly stuff again ..I just hope the new three year deal doesn't give him ideas above his station. Joe McMahon 9 Posted 04/07/2018 at 20:01:53 I'm glad he's keeping his career on track! (Sorry about that!) Christy Ring 10 Posted 04/07/2018 at 20:12:20 Sheedy converted him from a midfielder into a striker; I hope he has a great future. Sean Callaghan 11 Posted 04/07/2018 at 20:13:47 It's always difficult to gauge whether a young player will come good, but everything points to him working out — the signals are good anyway! Michael Lynch 12 Posted 04/07/2018 at 20:15:40 Looks good in the box. Lev Vellene 13 Posted 04/07/2018 at 20:18:22 Now, if you train-set kiddies will look at proper trains before they lost their souls to diesel (...), maybe we have our own Flying Scotsman here? I've seen him at U23 and U20 (?) internationals, so we can hope! Rick Pattinson 14 Posted 04/07/2018 at 21:03:50 Sorry for starting the whole train thing off... But well done, lads... some good uns here. Anthony Hawkins 15 Posted 04/07/2018 at 21:10:50 Looks like the lads on the right [train] track......I'll get my coat... Peter Howard 16 Posted 04/07/2018 at 21:21:53 Hopefully if we need him in the first team he will step up to the plate Eh,eh, have you seen it? Me washboard, have you seen it? Rick Pattinson 17 Posted 04/07/2018 at 22:21:31 We need a young striker who can chug along for 90 mins not run out of steam by half time and bag us a coal or two RIGHT ENOUGH!!!!!!! Barry Williams 18 Posted 04/07/2018 at 23:01:15 The moderators really need to buffer these comments. This is not the platform to do it. I just hope that Hornby gets game time and is just not used sporadically off the bench in a sub way! Sorry, sorry, sorry! Barry Williams 19 Posted 04/07/2018 at 23:06:46 I just hope that he doesn't go off the rails due to his new status! Does he have a good engine? Barry Williams 20 Posted 04/07/2018 at 23:07:53 Here's hoping he stays in line! Peter Roberts 21 Posted 04/07/2018 at 23:12:29 Pity the Premier League won't let us give him a squad number of "00" Ray Roche 22 Posted 04/07/2018 at 23:34:59 I'm struggling to Gauge the seriousness of some of the posts...they're sending out the wrong signals to me. Dick Fearon 23 Posted 05/07/2018 at 01:28:16 So long as he doesn't hit the buffers or jump off at Edge Hill. Sid Martin 24 Posted 05/07/2018 at 06:06:33 Unlike the recently departed Fat Controller, Marco Silva may actually Choo-Choose him for the 1st team squad. But if he shows his class Inter-City will be in for him. Gary Edwards 25 Posted 05/07/2018 at 06:14:40 Good to see the club carrying on with good, in-house business whilst everybody is busy cherry picking their World Cup favourites.Seen him 'live' a couple of times, also watched the recent Toulon tourney (TV) he is a big lad, as Derek (2) noted built like an old-fashioned centre-forward but far more mobile. Best of luck, Fraser, the latest in Everton's long association with Scottish footballers. Martin Reppion 26 Posted 05/07/2018 at 08:21:26 Well done guys. That's started my day off with a giggle.I like the sound of this lad. Haven't seen him but we have produced a few good ones. Time for another to come through. Richard Lyons 27 Posted 05/07/2018 at 08:34:38 Well, with the first class coach we have, at this junction, I'm sure he'll develop a firm coupling with the crew and be able to drive a freight train through opposition defences.Come on Fraser, do the locomotion!(My coat is already on, I'm already going through the door... you know, the double sliding door which opens automatically before you hear "this is Moorfields") Duncan Lennard 30 Posted 05/07/2018 at 08:49:18 Model pro this lad.And changing tack slightly, hopefully he'll have opposition defences groaning “we're all doomed...†Derek Thomas 31 Posted 05/07/2018 at 09:55:34 Does this mean the fat controller is staying or going? Hugh Jenkins 32 Posted 05/07/2018 at 12:40:25 The next Joe Royle? D J Fanning 33 Posted 05/07/2018 at 13:19:35 LOL Peter Roberts, Derek Thomas et al.Hugh Jenkins – let's hope so. Let's also hope that, if Hornby does become good enough to grace a top four side, he does have to think about leaving Everton, like previous superstars have. Peter Warren 34 Posted 05/07/2018 at 15:07:03 Hope he doesn't blow hot and cold. Derek Taylor 35 Posted 05/07/2018 at 15:14:06 Hopefully, Hornby is the very last piece in Kenwright's trainset! Mike Gaynes 36 Posted 05/07/2018 at 15:41:20 You guys do realize that some of us have absolutely no idea what's going on here. Steve Ferns 37 Posted 05/07/2018 at 15:43:59 It seems some of us are very fond of trainsets Mike. The main British manufacturer being Hornby. Tony Ateman 38 Posted 05/07/2018 at 15:53:01 For Mike Mike Gaynes 39 Posted 05/07/2018 at 16:05:44 Ah, thanks, guys. I was a Lionel trainset kid myself. Appreciate your getting me back on track -- sorry my wheels came off there. But I do hope this thread runs out of steam soon. But to those who have seen the lad play, how's his engine?Oops. Damn. Going loco myself. Tony Everan 40 Posted 05/07/2018 at 16:16:03 Always late for train-ing, leaves on the road. Gary Russell 41 Posted 05/07/2018 at 16:26:16 Hugh! Hugh! Jenkins and D J defo Fanning the coal fires of Derek Thomas the Tank Engine's engine, likke. Ray Roche 42 Posted 05/07/2018 at 17:32:14 He certainly knows where the coal is. Brian Porter 43 Posted 06/07/2018 at 09:27:34 Rick (#6), good job the lad's name isn't Triang, lol.
