Everton and Barcelona take pioneering lead towards equality

Groundbreaking initiatives on Merseyside and in Catalonia are helping to create a more level playing field for women's football.

Today, Everton became the first professional English club to use its ladies team to front a kit launch while, in Catalonia, Barcelona announced that, also for the first time, their women's side will shortly join Ernesto Valverde's male all-stars on a foreign pre-season tour.

To be applauded no doubt, but at £3 a ticket for a Derby game, there's a lot of ground to make up yet. On second thoughts that £3 was over the odds for some of their male counterparts performances last season.
