Season › 2018-19 › News U23s win out at Stockport County Saturday, 21 July, 2018 1comment | Jump to most recent Everton Under-23s put in a strong second-half display at Stockport County after trailing 1-0 at the break, they hit four goals in the second half. Everton had fallen behind when Frank Mulhern made full capital on being left free in the box on 16 minutes. Striker Mulhern took one touch to kill Sam Minihan's cross from the right. His second was equally accomplished, the former Huddersfield Town player lifting the ball high into the net. Substitutes Con Ouzounidis and Nathan Broadhead both struck inside three minutes to alter the course of the game. Harry Charsley expertly landed the ball on his head six yards from goal. Then, Broadhead hurtled forward to sweep home following Bassala Sambou's beautifully executed turn and pass inside the box. Sambou stretched the Blues' advantage with 19 minutes remaining, the striker finishing into the top-right corner. The in-form Broadhead's confident 12-yard, side-footed effort put the seal on a tremendous second half for the visitors. Fraser Hornby shot over 60 seconds after Mulhern's opener following persistent work from Sambou and Danny Bramall to keep the ball alive from Charsley's left-wing cross. Hornby had come closer when the game was only two minutes old, the Blues striker forcing a save with a snap-shot from 20 yards. And the same Everton player found himself bearing down on goal just shy of the half hour. Sambou fastened onto a loose pass and advanced unchecked, deep into Stockport territory, before sliding the ball right for Hornby, hurtling forward to join the counter. Stockport goalkeeper Hinchliffe bolted off his line to narrow the angle and smother Hornby's low effort. Between times Everton ‘keeper Renshaw clung on to Sam Walker's dipping free-kick after the County midfielder had been impeded by Dennis Adeniran. And the goalkeeper was extended further still shortly before Everton drew level. Sambou collected a pass from Charsley to the right of goal and, in a precursor for his part in winger Broadhead's first goal, chopped onto his left foot before unleashing a scorching effort that Hinchliffe touched over the top. Everton U23s: Renshaw; Denny, Browning, Galloway (46' Ouzounidis), Foulds; Charsley, Adeniran (73' Gordon), Markelo, Bramall (46' Broadhead); Sambou (79' Mampala), Hornby (79' Lavery).
