Club scout suspended amid Premier League probe

Everton have suspended their head of recruitment for the Finch Farm youth academy, Martin Waldron, following the announcement of a Premier League investigation into the "tapping up" of a former Cardiff City youth player.

Though the alleged incident took place in 2016, the claim, involving the unnamed player who subsequently joined Manchester United, has only come to light now.

The Telegraph reported the allegation that Waldon and Everton breached regulations on the transfer of minors when they tried to acquire the player.

Must be loads of clubs that tapped up players. Only Everton get investigated.

This looks worryingly like an admission of guilt. It's hard to comment without knowing the specifics obviously...but it's hard to believe Everton are the first or last club to be involved in this kind of thing.

Was worried for a sec he was a nonce, tapping up is a relief...

Watford, Cardiff, Nottingham Forrest etc... Everton are becoming a rogue state within football. Next we'll be accused of sponsoring terrorism.

Only Everton can be done for poaching young players, when it's rife. Parents asking fie holidays, cars, house improvements and retainers.

Niase the only player to be done for diving retrospectively.

That's Everton that. If it can go wrong, it will.

Is it really only Everton who get nicked?

It must happen in every walk of life, but the fact that this happened a couple of years ago must hopefully stand in Martin Waldron's favour?

If he (and we) get done for this then surely it will be the opening of an enormous can of worms or is every other club just better at getting away with it?

It seems like this is a bigger deal because it was “international” with the kid regarded as foreign by fifa since Wales have their own FA - regardless of the fact the kid played at Cardiff who play in England.

It seems like a bigger deal because Everton left the kid and his family in limbo, if this story is correct?

Big 6 conspiracy theorists walk this way - 6 is enough 7 too many and with the money invested to get prepared for the Euro Super League that only wants 6 teams from England.

A points deduction will only add to the conspiracy theorists paranoia... or is it? Truth is Stranger then fiction.

Ah well... if everyone is doing it... must be okay then.

Brent @ 6.

Interesting link. Thanks.

Also interesting just how frequently our loveable neighbours appear in the list of tapping up cases.

Like Niasse, he will be the only one who gets done for it.

I've been thinking about this and hope Everton, deal with this in the best possible way.

Marcel Brands, was headhunted by Everton because he his good at his job, and probably because he's got a huge network in place, which is what makes him so successful.

Same with Waldron, good at his job, he must have some major links within football, so if he's sacked by Everton, then who knows where he could end up next?

Jack @11, I believe they have evidence of Waldron talking to the kid's parents, stood on a grassy knoll in Dallas.

The cinifilm is being looked at as we speak.

Brian @16

I saw that but then the BBC had a story saying Waldron isn't his real name and he is really a Colonel in the KGB who originally came over with a mate to see Liverpool Cathedral for a couple of days...
