How Everton’s internationals fared during the September break

Everton were well represented during September’s break with several of David Moyes’ squad turning out for their countries.

Here's how the Blues fared:

Jordan Pickford (England)

Pickford started both of England’s World Cup qualifiers this month and earned back-to-back victories and clean sheets. After a shut-out in the 2-0 win over Andorra, Pickford claimed another clean sheet as Serbia were thrashed 5-0 in Belgrade. England are five from five in the group and yet to concede a goal. 

Pickford’s clean sheet against Serbia was his 40th for the Three Lions, moving him level with David Seaman. Only Peter Shilton (66) and Joe Hart (43) have kept more clean sheets for England.

Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye (Senegal)

Iliman Ndiaye started both fixtures during the break as Senegal earned victories over DR Congo (3-2) and Sudan (2-0). The victories maintained Senegal’s unbeaten start to World Cup qualification and lifted the Lions of Teranga above their opponents and to the top of Group B. Gueye completed the full 90 against DR Congo but was an unused substitute for the win over Sudan. That rest for the veteran will be welcomed by David Moyes ahead of this weekend’s clash with Gueye’s former club, Aston Villa.

Jake O’Brien (Republic of Ireland)

Jake O’Brien featured prominently for Ireland in what was a torrid start to World Cup qualification. The Boys in Green battled back twice to draw with Hungary in their opener, before a shock defeat to Armenia. That loss, to a side ranked 105th in the world, leaves Ireland with an uphill task to reach a first World Cup since 2002.

Beto (Guinea-Bissau)

Beto was present as Guinea-Bissau kept faint hopes of reaching the World Cup for the first time. The forward started in the 1-1 draw with Sierra Leone, before appearing as a second-half substitute for the win over Djibouti. Guinea-Bissau are five points behind the play-off spot with two games to go. They face Ethiopia and group leaders Egypt in their final fixtures.

Tyler Dibling (England u-21)

The summer signing formed part of Lee Carsley’s new-look England u-21 side, as the Young Lions bid for a third consecutive European Championship success. With several of the summer’s trophy-winning team now ineligible, Dibling too his chance to impress. He set up Jobe Bellingham for the second in a 2-0 win over Kazakhstan to kick-off their qualification campaign.

Harrison Armstrong (England u-19)

The out-on-loan midfielder enhanced his growing reputation with two impressive performances for England’s u-19 side. Armstrong captained England to a 2-0 win over Ukraine, before scoring a late equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Spain. The 18-year-old added another goal for his country with an early opener as England thrashed the Netherlands 4-1 on Tuesday.
