With a number of players going out on loan, and a few stepping up from the Under-18s, plus some frankly unwanted 'deadwood' unable to secure loan deals yet, it may be quite a mixed bag for David Unsworth to corral into a potent force again. Ellis Simms and Fraser Hornby appear to be the main men up front, although Simms is not in the squad tonight, with Manasse Mampala perhaps taking up the slack after Bassala Sambou declined a new contract. No goals in the first half, and a red card on 55 mins for the Leicester centre-half after pulling back Fraser Hornby in the centre-circle but heading off for goal. Article continues below video content Lots of chances to score in the second half but the Blues could not convert and it remained 0-0. Everton U23s: Tyrer, Connolly (37' Astley), Foulds, Baningime, Feeney (c), Gibson, Adineran, Markelo (67' John), Evans, Hornby, Gordon. Subs: Barrett, Denny, Mampala. Disclaimer Brent Stephens 1 Posted 12/08/2019 at 19:02:42 4-3-3 Brent Stephens 2 Posted 12/08/2019 at 19:26:25 Our keeper going to get caught on the ball before game is out. Brent Stephens 3 Posted 12/08/2019 at 19:52:27 First half. Defence sound. Especially Feeney - blinder. Though Gibson turned too easily couple of times. Keeper needs to be careful with ball at his feet. Anthony Gordon looks good on ball. Denis Adineran came close from a good Hornby (?) pass. Brent Stephens 4 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:17:08 10-man Leicester. Hornby pulled down when through on goal. Derek Knox 5 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:37:23 Brent, are you there or how are following the match? Brent Stephens 6 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:41:50 I'm here. Derek Knox 7 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:43:38 Brent, that explains a lot. I couldn't get it anywhere, is it finished? Brent Stephens 8 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:45:15 Last few minutes Brent Stephens 9 Posted 12/08/2019 at 20:55:35 Game over. Nil-nil. Steve Ferns 10 Posted 12/08/2019 at 21:05:56 Cheers Brent. How did the mystery man, Baningime look? What what Antony Evans was it him and Gordon flanking Hornby? Was Markelo in midfield? Brent Stephens 11 Posted 12/08/2019 at 21:21:24 Steve, Beni looked good. Markelo in midfield but didn't show much. Adeniran showed more.Antony Evans had Fraser Hornby on his left. Not impressed with Fraser again – he missed a couple of good chances.Anthony Gordon really impressed on the left. He's really fast and with some superb trickery.Feeney was class. Won everything. Per Stumo 12 Posted 12/08/2019 at 21:57:37 Hm, I thought Iversen would play in this one since he didn't play for the U18s versus Derby. Injured maybe? Surely not a contender against Watford yet? (Though as a Norwegian, I'd love to see him in the squad at least.) Ajay Gopal 13 Posted 13/08/2019 at 04:17:11 Being a Beni fan, and expecting big things from him, good to see that he played the full 90. And thanks, Brent, for the performance appraisal of a few of the players. I think Beni is one of the players who will benefit by going out on loan to one of the German clubs. There is still time for that to happen, isn't there? I wonder why Silva prefers Gibson over Feeney? Feeney has been in and around the senior squad for a couple of years now – as I remember, he made a sub appearance in a League match (?) and he definitely started a Europa League game. Dave Williams 14 Posted 13/08/2019 at 09:26:10 Beni is an obvious replacement for Gueye if he can recover from this mysterious loss of form. Feeney looks first-team quality to me and I like Adeniran. Evans has ability but Gordon has that something extra. Thanks for the report, Brent. Phill Thompson 15 Posted 13/08/2019 at 10:39:58 I watched this on Leicester City TV site for free, amazing how they can produce good feed, good commentary and we can't, well done LCFC.Poor game really and for me almost a re run of our poor games last season – solid defence, a strong midfield but lacking creativity, a big forward line with little skill apart from Gordon. For me Gibson was the man of the match, though they gave it to the Leicester Goalkeeper, which was fair enough. Gibson always looked calm and composed and put together one 60-yard run into opposition territory.I thought Beni and Adeniran were ok, Beni seems to be getting back again but it feels like he's back to where he was two years ago. Gordon certainly has the talent to get past people and he seems to bulk out and be a bit stronger every year, though he'll never be massive. It's hard to see where our goals will come from this season if we continue to play like that; maybe if a few move out on loan it will let in the likes of Simms and Kieran Phillips to see what they can do.
