Gareth Barry talks about leaving Everton

What a classy no nonsense player he was, he could read the game brilliantly, and I for one wished he'd have stayed for a while longer. It would probably in hindsight have saved us a lot of money.

The only real blemish on his career as far as I know was when he was in Spain with fellow WBA players (pre-season I think) and he and three others decided to drive off in the taxi. A prank that was not only stupid but attracted all the wrong publicity.

However I wish him all the best and sure he will still continue in the game in possibly a coaching role, and I thank him for his time with us, just wish it had been both earlier, and longer.

A super player, he certainly had the full backing of the crowd who recognised his importance to the team.

One of the better midfield players I've seen in blue. With Koeman being one of the worst managers I've seen on the sidelines.

An inspired signing, that never let us dow, was totally reliable, and a credit to the club.

Barry – a legend. He gave my son his first autograph in the pouring rain... I'll never forget that man.

Interesting read. He didn't quite get the Niasse treatment but Koeman thought he was too old to make an impact until Barry proved him wrong.

I know he had a long career and isn't a local but you get the sense he developed a real affinity for Everton and the fans. One of the best old-timers we've signed along with Gough and Power.

Class Player Class Person.

I've not enjoyed watching a player more than Barry. I just found it fascinating how he was able to contribute just through knowing where to be and what to do.

Brilliant and classy player and man.

This guy was the steady force in the best Everton midfield I've seen with McCarthy and Barkley.

Gareth Barry was immense. Knew how to quickly and efficiently distribute the ball, always worked his ass off, knew when and how to commit a professional foul, protected the back four better than almost anyone I've seen in a Blue jersey, and an absolute gentleman.

Class. Can you believe he was shown the door basically for Schneiderlin? Shocking! Such a great player.
