Season › 2020-21 › News Academy product Dylan Thompson on trial with Newcastle Monday, 12 April, 2021 4comments | Jump to most recent Everton Academy 18-year-old centre-back, Dylan Thompson underwent a trial with Newcastle United's U23 team on Monday night. Thompson, who came to Everton after playing for Blackpool and then Manchester United, has not been a first-choice at U18 level this season with only 5 starts and is being given the opportunity to find another club for his future development. Reports in the northeast suggested that Steve Bruce and his staff were keen to run the rule over Thompson as they look to inject fresh blood into their club at the development level. Disclaimer Keith Slinger 1 Posted 13/04/2021 at 11:22:31 Can you blame him? Although a better club would be better. Branthwaite is ahead of him but you never know with youngsters. Martin Reppion 2 Posted 13/04/2021 at 16:27:24 Don't know anything about the lad but, as we have a plethora of centre-backs ahead of hima a move on would certainly be beneficial for him. Maybe it would create a space in our system for the sort of players we don't have a lot of: Strikers, Wingers, Midfielders (who don't get injured), or right-backs.Good luck to him. Phill Thompson 3 Posted 14/04/2021 at 10:05:20 Dylan Thompson is well down the pecking order at u18s and sadly it appears is not being offered a new contract so is being allowed to find another club, which is sensible. He started off last season well at u18 and was our regular centre back, usually partnered with Reece Welch. Although he played initially this season, he hasn't been picked lately. Often these decisions are made early ( not to give him a pro contract) so that may have impacted selection. We have two 2nd year centre backs Seb Kristensen and Harry Hagan who were given pro contracts last year, although from what I've seen neither are particularly better than Thompson. Our two 1st year centre backs, Reece Welch and Eli Campbell , who is still 16, are I would say the better prospects of our centre backs. Good luck to Dylan Thompson, hope he finds another club. Justin Doone 4 Posted 16/04/2021 at 14:35:30 I know nothing of the lad but he's probably first team ready for a Newcastle defence! Almost funny if they hadn't totaly outplayed and beat us.So to rectify, I presume he passes the ball forward to much.
