Season › 2020-21 › News Branthwaite needs surgery on ankle injury Tuesday, 4 May, 2021 6comments | Jump to most recent Since we reported 2 weeks ago that Jarrad Branthwaite was unable to play for his loan club, Blackburn Rovers, it has now been decided that he should have surgery on his injured ankle. Branthwaite, like many of Everton's players who have gone out on loan this season, seems to have suffered a mixed time away from the club. He started 9 consecutive matches following his arrival at Ewood Park but then didn't feature in any of the next 9 before being recalled to the starting line-up for the win over Derby County. After Branthwaite sustained the injury in training with Blackburn Rovers last month, it has ruled him out of Rovers' final four fixtures. He has since returned to Everton and has had an operation today to repair the ankle ligament damage before beginning his rehabilitation. It remains to be seen whether he recovers sufficiently over the summer to be considered as part of Carlo Ancelotti's senior squad for next season, or whether he will be shipped out on loan again, with 2 years remaining on his Everton contract. Ajay Gopal 2 Posted 05/05/2021 at 06:45:16 Must be hugely frustrating for the young fellow. After an exciting series of performances towards the end of last season, many of us were expecting big things this season, but then he got injured, and seemed to take a long time to recover. The loan at Rovers seemed to be working well for him, but then he had this latest injury. It would be good if he has the surgery quickly and then gets the summer to recover and get back to fitness. Wishing him all the very best. Derek Knox 3 Posted 06/05/2021 at 04:11:55 Just hope he comes back from this better, fitter and stronger, physically and mentally. Not what you would call a successful loan, as with many of our other young hopefuls, it seems only Ellis Simms is enjoying a decent run and banging in the goals, which we expected he would. Mind you he is a bit special and I hope he stays with us for quite some time. Brian Murray 4 Posted 06/05/2021 at 04:27:57 Open letter to jarrad. Just do the opposite of what our fitness coaches tell you and you will be good to go in no time ! Paul Melling 5 Posted 06/05/2021 at 05:40:36 Brian #4 bit harsh m8! However, you do have a point. Only Digne and Pickford seem to have made a full recoveries. Gomes is nowhere near the player he was. James can't walk upstairs without feeling uncomfortable. DCL still not fully right. Mina is brittle, not to mention Bernard and that useless waste of space that City got rid of doesn't even deserve a mention. Brian Murray 6 Posted 06/05/2021 at 13:33:22 Gomes you say no where near the player he was.
