Season › 2020-21 › News Simms to be offered a contract extension Wednesday, 2 June, 2021 9comments | Jump to most recent Everton will reportedly seek to tie Ellis Simms to extended terms now that his loan spell with Blackpool is over. The promising academy graduate scored 10 goals over the second half of the 2020-21 season with the Seasiders, although he missed last Saturday's League One play-off final through injury. He currently has a year left on his existing Everton contract but the Liverpool Echo report that the club are keen to secure him on a longer deal and send him out on loan again next season to gain more first-team experience. Disclaimer Tony Everan 1 Posted 02/06/2021 at 06:24:36 Makes a lot of sense to give Ellis an improved and extended contract, he is on an upward trajectory. Neil Critchley seems to be the perfect coach to develop him further at this time. Another loan with Blackpool could be beneficial, it would be great to see I'm bang in 20 goals + in the Championship for them next season and then be a real live candidate for our first team in 22/23. John Pickles 2 Posted 02/06/2021 at 09:41:10 He deserves a new deal, but please, no more 'Garbuttesque' extensions. Let's have the amount and length commensurate with how he is progressing, not what the club hopes he might amount to. Nathan Ford 3 Posted 02/06/2021 at 11:39:50 Extend contract by 1 or 2 years with an option to extend further if certain criteria are met, and then give him a season in the Championship with Blackpool. He seemed to settle well and knock a few goals in. Blackpool will be one of the favourites to go down so a realistic goal tally of 12 - 15 I think is reasonable given that he will start some matches and come off the bench in others. Derek Knox 4 Posted 02/06/2021 at 12:40:01 At last some good news, that is if he actually signs, and I for one hope he does, let's face it this lad knows where the goal is and is NOT a flash in the proverbial pan. Also, I don't believe Blackpool would have gained a place at Wembley, let alone promotion, if it hadn't been for Ellis's contribution since January. He took a little time to adjust to the more competitive style of Football played at Division 2 level, although he bagged a brace on his first start I believe. Once he had adjusted his focus there was no stopping him, but I did feel a bit gutted for him that on the eve of the Final he pulled up in Training and missed all the glory that HE had won for his loan side! Danny O’Neill 5 Posted 02/06/2021 at 12:55:12 Derek,How dare you disrupt the Ancelotti posts with some positivity!!I'll be honest, not seen much of him so I take others' words for it like yourself. What's interesting is that the club seems to have a plan for him.Maybe that bottom up restructuring is starting whilst we continue to try and unravel the mess at the top and fix the roof at the same time. Kevin Prytherch 6 Posted 02/06/2021 at 15:38:09 Next season, we will have Dunc in chargeHolgate and Godfrey marshalling the backDavies in the holding midfielder roleGordon, DCL and Simms up frontRicharlison, Kean and James sold to balance the books!!!! Tom Harvey 7 Posted 05/06/2021 at 13:26:01 Kevin @ 6We'll need Pickford to have a little jar of smelling salts in his goal he can pass to Holgate periodically to make sure he's awake and aware of the world around him. Justin Doone 8 Posted 05/06/2021 at 23:51:10 Good on ya Simms!Yes another Blackpool loan or similar league 1 team would be great for his development. Game time is crucial. Philip Bunting 9 Posted 09/06/2021 at 16:27:53 If anyone has been following Irish league at all this season? Shane Lavery has been the standout player scoring an impressive 47 goals in 77 Games for Linfield along with winning the Goldon boot, Player of the year and Young Player of the year. Every time I have seen him he has been outstanding and near runs the show each time. Its also good to see him winning a 2-year contract with Blackpool with option for a 3rd year. I can see him doing very well there and this may hinder Ellis having the opportunity to go back there now.
