Season › 2020-21 › News Digne cameo cut short by injury Lyndon Lloyd Wednesday, 23 June, 2021 10comments | Jump to most recent Lucas Digne's second appearance at Euro 2020 lasted all of five minutes after the full-back was forced off with an injury. The Everton man had come on as a half-time substitute in the entertaining 2-2 draw with Portugal but had to be taken off following an innocuous-looking incident by the touchline in which Digne appeared to tweak a quadricep muscle. He was replaced by Adrien Rabiot who deputised at left-back in a game that featured three penalties, two scored by Cristiano Ronaldo and one by Karim Benzema, and another well-taken goal by Benzema. The result means that both countries progress to the Round of 16, Germany's draw with Hungary ensuring that they will face England next while France will play Switzerland and Portugal will face Belgium. The France boss, Didier Deschamps, later added: “He has a muscle injury, he felt a pull behind his thigh. It will be very complicated [for the rest of Euro 2020]." Everton are reporting that Lucas Digne will undergo a scan on Thursday and continue to be assessed by the France medical team. Not the kind of injury that happens to players starting the game.Does anyone know if we can get compensation from the French FA? I think he'll be out for at least 3 months given our usual formidable record here... Mark Andersson 2 Posted 23/06/2021 at 23:23:44 Typical.. sounds nasty..England out in the next round then Si Cooper 3 Posted 24/06/2021 at 01:22:40 Would have probably picked Portugal as least worse option, Mark, but Germany don't look rock steady. France were the ones it was crucial to avoid. Mark Ryan 4 Posted 24/06/2021 at 08:57:56 We'll beat them on penalties Justin Doone 5 Posted 24/06/2021 at 09:18:56 He looked okay walking off the pitch and up the steps but it was a very strange injury. He walked over to the side and got ushered back onto the pitch by what appeared to be a French medical team. He sat, then lay down for a bit of treatment before walking off and being subbed.I also thought it must be down to a poor warm-up, he had the whole of half-time to do so. Just hoping he's fit for the start of our season. Jerome Shields 7 Posted 24/06/2021 at 10:32:58 Wish Lucas a speedy recovery. Steve Jones 8 Posted 24/06/2021 at 15:06:46 Pulled quad is about 6 weeks for recovery isn't it?Might stop some offers for his services from the Champions League clubs if there is a silver lining to be had. Winston Williamson 9 Posted 24/06/2021 at 15:08:18 An opportunity for Niels or Small's if the new manager doesn't view playing youngsters as a disease! Even so, hoping for a speedy recovery for Digne. Class act. Wasn't bothered who England got. We're going to have to beat good teams to win it either way Kim Vivian 28 Posted 28/06/2021 at 11:14:24 Do we know yet whether he is likely to play today? Rob Dolby 29 Posted 28/06/2021 at 13:26:32 Dave 34. I was gutted when we sold McMahon. He was a complete centre mid and a blue which made it all the worse. We had some great centre mids from that era in Reid, Bracewell, McMahon and Richardson. Just a shame we couldn't hold onto them all.
