Season › 2021-22 › General Forum Is Zlatan Ibrahimović the Andy Murray of football? By Bobby Mallon 05/10/2021 Share: Zlatan Ibrahimović has scored over 570 career goals — 500 of them being club goals. He's played for some of the top teams in Europe and won lots of titles. But, as he played in the era of Messi and Ronaldo, is he football's Andy Murray — never to be recognised as a great? Disclaimer James Flynn 1 Posted 08/10/2021 at 15:35:27 Huh? You must be the President of the Andy Murray Fan Club to come up with this whopper. There is no comparison between Zlatan and Andy Murray; not in sustained excellence over a long period of time or silverware lifted. Peter Warren 2 Posted 08/10/2021 at 16:23:08 I must be Vice President of the Andy Murray club. Playing in era of 3 best players ever he actually surpassed them for a time and was number 1 in the world ahead of them until his injury problems. The skill and sheer dedication and will to win almost unparalleled by any sports person. He was a miserable Scot who didn't like England to win at anything, like a lot of Celts, didn't stop him being one of best tennis players ever.As for Zlatan, phenomenal player but not level of Murray. Zlatan top ten in his era, perhaps, but not top ten ever, not same same level as Messi, Ronaldo (both) Pele, Maradona, Cryff, Platini etc. More on level of next tier below people like Stoichkov, Henry, Bergkamp etc. Still a phenomenal player and a lot better than Tobias Linderoth for example. Mike Gaynes 3 Posted 08/10/2021 at 18:53:09 Who's Andy Murray? Barry Rathbone 4 Posted 08/10/2021 at 19:31:44 He got found out at Barca and wasn't that clever at Man Utd.Zlatan is a flat-track bully with a gob as big as the Mersey Tunnel... fortunate to have existed in an era of declining standards. His achievements came from lording it in dominant Italian teams in a moderate Italian league.Modern kids love him because they didn't see the likes of Romario or the real Ronaldo. He's the Swedish Beckham – only uglier.
