Season › 2021-22 › General Forum The Most Incredible Come From Behind Wins By Everton FC By Gary McCarty 08/04/2022 Share: The English Premier League is the best league in the world, and all of the teams in the English top division have played their fair share of thrilling games that left fans shocked and amazed at the same time. Everton has been in the Premier League for a long time now, and apart from recent years, the club was among the top 6 for a long time before things went south. Having played in the top flight for over two decades now, the Merseyside club has given us a number of historic comebacks that will be remembered for ages. From their early days to more recent times, there are several games worth looking at. If you have been watching the Premier League for some time now, you will know that Everton was one of the big 6 in the league and used to challenge for European spots. There are some who believe Everton can still manage to stay in the Premier League regardless of their struggles; if you are one of them and want to place your money on the club, you can visit the Netbet, an Indian online casino. After taking a look at all their comebacks, we have listed some of the most incredible comebacks made by Everton Football Club during their time in the top flight. Everton 3-2 WimbledonThis season isn't the first time Everton has been struggling in the top flight. Almost three decades ago, in 1994, they were in a similar position and were battling relegation from the top flight. To start this list, let's take a look at probably the most historic comeback in the club's history that helped them stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation. On the final day of the season, Everton faced Wimbledon at Goodison Park in a must-win game in order to avoid relegation. The match started all square, but by the 70th minute, the Merseyside Blues were down by two goals. However, within a few minutes, Graham Stuart scored the first goal for Everton from the spot, followed by an equaliser from Barry Horne. Graham Stuart then gave the home side the lead with just a few minutes to play to complete one of the most unlikely comebacks in the history of the league and save Everton's season. Everton 2-1 SpursEverton faced Tottenham Hotspur at home, having been on an unbeaten home run for 12 games. The first half went goalless, but the Toffees fell behind after Clint Dempsey had his shot deflected into the back of the net. It all seemed over before Steven Pienaar headed in the equaliser out of nowhere, sending the stadium into a state of frenzy. Within the next few minutes, Nikica Jelavic scored the winner, securing all three points for the team in the last minute. Watford 2-3 EvertonEverton vs Watford away in 2020 is another one of the best comebacks from the club. The Toffees fell behind by two goals inside the first half, and everyone expected them to get hammered. However, at the nick of half-time Yerry Mina scored the first goal to reduce the deficit to one before netting the equaliser in the 45+4 minute to turn the whole game around. It looked like the match was going to end all square before Theo Walcott finished off a counter-attack in the 90th minute to grab all three points for the club and cap off a thrilling encounter in the best possible way. Everton 3-2 Sheffield WednesdayAnother one from the history books, this was a comeback made by Everton to win their third FA Cup title. The Merseyside Blues fell behind by two goals at the start of the second half, but Mike Trebilcock scored two quick goals to draw the teams level before Derek Temple completed the comeback by scoring the winner; all of this happened within a span of 14 minutes, making it yet another incredible comeback for the Toffees. Disclaimer Tamhas Woods 1 Posted 09/04/2022 at 19:38:22 Utterly no doubt about Wimbledon - I'd plum for the 66 FAC final in second though. Rooney v Arsenal in third, as it was more iconic and represented a new start for many people.Rooney's winner also resonated with the "People's Club" tag that was still fresh. It was literally as though some kid had come form the Park End, put a shirt on and smashed a 30-yarder past the reigning Premier League winning goalkeeper and his stupid ponytail.Great though the Spurs and Watford comebacks were, they ultimately meant little. I'd say the 3-2 vs Watford at Goodison (Nov 2017, Cleverly misses 96th-minute penalty) pisses all over the Vicarage Road one as well.Plus, our 3-2 win at Upton Park in early Roberto days. Baines with two free-kicks to drag us back from 1-0 and 2-1 down. The very personification of "Sin Miedo" – shame how it turned out, but that's EFC for ya. Gary Sedgwick 2 Posted 09/04/2022 at 23:53:23 Cup Winner's Cup semi-final, second leg for me. Went in 0-1 against the mighty Bayern Munich and ended up 3-1 winners that lead to our only European title. Paul Hughes 3 Posted 12/04/2022 at 11:00:55 Slight inaccuracy on the Wimbledon game, we were 2-0 down after about 25 minutes, but got one back pretty after soon after (Limpar dive and Diamond penalty) to go in 2-1 down at half time. Charles Brewer 4 Posted 12/04/2022 at 14:15:22 I saw the Sheffield Wednesday cup final on television at home with my father. I can still remember vividly (in black and white!) the moment when Derek Temple got the ball and ran on before shooting and scoring. It was the longest 5 seconds of my life! Alan McGuffog 5 Posted 14/04/2022 at 12:50:27 Surprised that the Beardsley / Mo Johnson derby match doesn't get a mention. Danny O’Neill 6 Posted 14/04/2022 at 13:18:42 The obvious ones for me are the Cup Winners Cup semi-final against Bayern as well as Wimbledon. Here's a random one. I don't even recall if we came from behind or were just struggling to win the game, but Charlton at home in the spring of 1987. We didn't play well and it was a tense affair but we managed to grind out a 2-1 victory.Tense for different reasons than now, but I always remember thinking that win put us on the final straight to securing the title. Paul Birmingham 7 Posted 14/04/2022 at 13:23:24 Some good games called out here. I also recall the WBA away match under Martinez and Everton came back from 2-0, to win 3-2 in 2015.Rom, and Kone, done the business. It seems like a lifetime ago now, all considered in terms of the standing of EFC, pre-Moshiri. Tony Abrahams 8 Posted 14/04/2022 at 13:23:57 The game when Billy Kenny got MotM, Alan, is I'm certain the only time Everton have come from behind to beat Liverpool in over 50 years. A really depressing fact. John Keating 9 Posted 14/04/2022 at 14:04:37 66 Cup Final was the one for me Brian Wilkinson 10 Posted 15/04/2022 at 21:17:51 How about being 2-0 down away to Watford under Carlo, having Delph sent off, then coming back to win the match 3-2, Walcott netting the winner. Barry Rathbone 11 Posted 16/04/2022 at 10:49:55 1966, Wembley with a trophy on the line, we just don't do stuff like that anymore. Wimbledon comes close but I think we paid off their goalie.
