Correction: the manager who got the team to the CL playoffs (with negative goal difference) was actually cheered to the rafters at the end of his last game in charge, despite 11 years of mostly negative football.

I was almost alone as I left the ground at the final whistle that day, not wanting to join in the sycophantic worship of the man who turned us into plucky little Everton at the behest of his moon-faced mentor sitting in the director's box.

He won't be taking his unfashionable London club into the Champions League at the end of season either.
