Season › 2021-22 › News Everton U18s win at the Academy of Light Michael Kenrick Saturday, 2 April, 2022 7comments | Jump to most recent Sunderland U18s 0 - 1 Everton U18s It's the start of a busy final month of the 2021-22 season for Everton U18s with the first of six games to be completed. On Saturday, they traveled to the north-east for a U18 Premier League game against Sunderland at the Academy of Light, which they won through the only goal of the game, scored by Emilio Lawrence. Ed Jones was missing as he sat out a suspension following the red card he picked up in the last game against Newcastle Utd U18s. Francis Okoronkwo, who scored 6 times in 7 games through the winter, has seen his goals dry up and has missed the last 2 games, putting the burden for goals back on Emilio Lawerence and Martin Sherif. Other players who have been missing for a while, presumed injured, include Mathew Mallon and Jenson Metcalfe, but Jack Tierney was back until just after the break. Martin Sherif hit the post in the first half and had another shot saved but it remained scoreless at the break, with Jack Tierney not lasting more than 2 minutes of the second half. Article continues below video content But just afterwards, Everton went ahead following a long driving run by Sherif who then played in Emilio Lawrence for a clinical first-time strike across the keeper and inside the far post. And that's how it stayed. Everton U18s: Leban, Qunityne, Tierney (47' Heath), Samuels-Smith, Wright, Wilson, Djankpata, Barker, Apter (78' Cahill), Lawrence, Sherif (65' Smikle-James). Michael Kenrick 2 Posted 02/04/2022 at 12:43:09 Thanks, Phil. I think I might've missed that. Pity, he was one of the upcoming stars at this level. Jack Tierney is back after missing 5 games. Only 4 subs named... unless there's another schoolboy hiding in there? Dave Abrahams 3 Posted 02/04/2022 at 13:19:12 Sherif just hit the post for us presuming it is still,0-0. Phill Thompson 4 Posted 02/04/2022 at 13:31:57 From the way it's written I'm taking it that Samuels-Smith is left Centre Back, Harry Wright left back. If so it's the first time that the highly promising Samuels-Smith has started at CB as opposed to left back. Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 02/04/2022 at 15:23:08 That goal from Lawrence was a shot from outside the box and they could have added to the total with a few more goals after a triple late change of players, they now go fourth in the table although some clubs have games in hand over Everton. Danny O’Neill 6 Posted 03/04/2022 at 09:21:24 Sherif's name seems to be getting regular mentions. Any views on from Michael and those who watch this group regularly?? Michael Kenrick 7 Posted 03/04/2022 at 09:29:17 I can really only talk about his basic stats, Danny – appearances and goals. He's done pretty well to establish himself as a U18 regular with 5 goals in the league and 3 in the Premier League Cup being a pretty good return at this level. But he was subbed off at 65 minutes yesterday, something which happens in around â…“ of his games this season. He's got a long way to go yet, methinks.
