As for right back, I've no idea. If will come down to Moyse and the recruitment people.

Unless they feel O'Brien can carry on there with Garner filling in when needed. Not ideal and I've rather we brought someone in.

I'll bet Mykolenko will be looking forward to getting back and owning the left, a la Baines & Pienaar.

Barry never won a challenge, and tiny Tim and Gana bit at heels but always seemed to be chasing the game. So my concerns were Barry, at the moment not good enough; Beto, more of a handful but honesty not a Premier League striker, will he ever be?

Tarkowski was somewhere looking for Goodison Park because his head wasn't at this game. Still get the feeling we are several players light. Surprised Chermiti isn't getting a look in, Armstrong too.

We still look unbalanced, not just defensively but midfield and up front.

Tarkowski did win a lot in the air but we do miss Branthwaite.

Gana is decent going forward but lacks in defensive tackling and a little speed, nearly cost us dearly.

Not a bad move yesterday tbf.

If we had any defenders, then Tarkowski would suffer the same fate for his abysmal performance yesterday.

Gueye was knocked off the ball far too easily by Minteh for the Welbeck chance. Dewsbury Hall's handball probably a bit unlucky, but his hand was up to be hit by the ball. Their shot that hit the post took a wicked deflection.

We had the 2 best players on the park in Grealish and Pickford, and could have scored another if McNeil had his shooting boots on.

Totally need a right-back this week, to allow O'Brien to move to centre-half. He has to be eyeing up Tarkowski's place.

Firstly, I won't lie, I thought Jack Grealish would be the next Bale and play more golf than football. But I am happy to be wrong on that one. I really enjoy the way he wants the ball but also wants the opponent.

Several times, including his first assist, he actually waited for the opponent to come to him before beating him. This frightened the shit out of me until I realized he is not being arrogant but just trying to draw attention away from and create space in the box. I don't think anyone has done that (successfully) in a blue jersey for quite some time.

Ndiaye, on the other hand, attacks the opponent by running at him. Two different tactics that worked brilliantly for the first goal.

When Dibling arrives, there is going to be a headache choosing the Number 10 starter – they can all play there. Nice also to see McNeil come on and make a contribution. Throw in Armstrong and we have 5 players all claiming the Number 10 position but also giving 3 options in each of the wing positions, albeit some unnaturally so.

After we signed Dewsbury-Hall, we seemed to have lost interest in David Luiz. I never considered them to be “like for like” but now it seems that it was one or the other with KDH being cheaper, younger and more excited by the project. He is growing on me. He seems to have versatility and intelligence. And leadership.

Speaking of, I was quite excited when O'Brien sat down with cramps and our captain started warming up on the sidelines. Pity he didn't make it onto the field for the last few minutes. I definitely thought his start against Southampton in the Goodison farewell was an emotive decision but no room for that on Sunday!

I have always been an admirer of Garner, especially after he turned down Forest (who I am growing to really despise after this window). He does have a few games a season where he has an off day but generally determined and effective if not pretty.

No mention of Barry. I thought his performance gave reason for optimism. But rumours of Beto's demise are exaggerated.

Not very often that Tarkowski gets a more negative rating than Keane but we do need to start planning both their replacements.

Overall, I'm happy with the squad (assuming today's transaction is completed). Good balance of a) flair vs efficacy; b) experience vs youthful exuberance; c) known ability vs precocious talent. Also more leaders! I loved after the game how Pickford spoke with casual certainty that Jack Grealish will fall in love with our club. COYB.

The two contributions by Barry were both very polished, especially the first. That flick was when the alarms started flashing for Brighton. It was 10 seconds before the ball was in the net, but they were in trouble as soon as he put that ball into the path of whoever took it over. Suddenly we had them on the break.

I think he's going to be a top player, if never a natural goal scorer.

The only real chance they had that wasn't self inflicted by Tarkowski or Dewsbury-Hall was Welbeck's. We were the better side and thoroughly deserved the win.

The stadium is magnificent and the noise coming off the South Stand was something to hear at times. Finally good to see Everton players carrying the ball forward.

I hope Dibling has got a bit of speed about him and we deffo need a very pacey right-back.

I’m sticking to my forecast on the live forum before Leeds: my head says 7th, my heart says 6th. In any case it’s European football next year.

There’s just a sense around this team now with Grealish

We have other priories. It's looking like defence. A right back, allowing O'Brien to make up 4 centre backs, to satisfy Moyes' statement a few weeks ago, that he wants 2 back up players in each position.

As for a striker, I can only see that if we send Chermiti out on loan, as we'd need another in there.

Moyes against Leeds had not have a instructed attacking midfield pairing, just a failed attempt at a low block. Garner came under pressure to stay deep as Alcartz continually drifted inside leaving him exposed Nidaye was isolated.This also left to Leeds pressure on the defensive midfield pivot and no attack.

Against Brighton he did have a attacking midfield pairing of Dewsbury and Grealish, Nidaye and Garner were able to tuck in and link up with the pairing.This was very difference than the Dyche like low block of the Leeds game with it's fear and negativity instilled by Moyes.

Moyes had to make a change in the forward line Barry for Beto to justify his lack of forward quality outburst, which was due in fact to the lack of ball progression due to his negative tactics.

Beto would have been better at keeping Brighton at bay.They had too much space to work in at times. Barry looked ok with good touches, but it would have been better with Beto.

That’s before Alcaraz and O’Neil get mentioned.

Good to have competition for places I guess.

Just need the same for both fullbacks and defensive midfield.

We need an alternative to LB for rotation and when Myko is injured. If the young Bayern lad isn't ready, then someone else, if only on a loan. Provided we get a real right back who can also overlap, then we can make do with O Brien as back up there but that also might mean an extra CB. The ideal option would be Ake who can play both left CB and LB.

Assuming Dibling or ano right winger signs, then I think that is as good as we can do this window. True another DM would help, if only a long term successor to Gana, but I think we can make do there with Jimmy G, Ironman, maybe KDH or even Armstrong if he can be coached to play there.

Striker is another matter but those are rare and not in our wheelhouse right now. We could sign a promising kid, but we have two of those in Barry and Chermiti.

Nice to hear Troy Deeny on match of the day praise young Barry, and suggested that Beto was a disgrace against Leeds, cant argue with any of that. A mention for Michael Keane who has played well in both opening games unlike Tarkowski with his negative pass backs. James Garner was MOTM according to David Moyes but I would have had Pickford for his 2 outstanding saves and while the critics keep suggesting alternatives for England he keeps proving them wrong. Gana gave another very good performance and Tim did OK as well. But you cant ignore the presence that grealish is having and will have. So can we have a bit more positivity guys yes everything is far from perfect but you wouldn't have known that from the singing of the match going fans after the game.

Finally to the muppet on the mike the playlist before the game is We Built this City ( 3 stadiums), Thats why they call us the Blues, There she goes, the siren and Z Cars.

Good to see the chippy open again after some refurbishment and the half rice-half chips with curry hasn’t suffered as a result!

The walk down to the dock was very good and more enjoyable than the one to Goodison, it was really nice to walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal for part of the way. Made me think about Brent Stephens and his pedalo! From where I live near Nantwich I reckon I could navigate from the Shropshire Union to the Leeds Liverpool. Actually, upon reflection, maybe not when considering I managed to get on the wrong bus in Atlanta (the clue was the big LED number on the front of it doh!).

I had no issues at all getting there and getting back was just as straight forward although there was some slow moving foot traffic on the dock road until I turned off it. The journey back from Sainsbury’s to the tunnel was much quieter than it used to be when coming back from Goodison.

I met up with Bill W for a pint (cheers Bill) at the Bramley Moore which was rammed but worth it. We got a chance to talk with John McFarlane and his grandson Josh who did a brief interview for a Brighton media team whilst we were there. Great to see John who was in good spirits make it to Bramley Moore.

Around 1.15pm the landlord at the pub was asking everyone outside to drink up or move inside. Apparently the police advised him that his licence did not cover people drinking outside? A bit OTT in my opinion, the atmosphere was great with a few Brighton supporters mingled in and a very healthy ambience. Merseyside Police need to revisit their approach in my opinion.

Getting into the ground was really easy, no queue at all for the North Stand turnstile 23 and I managed to figure out the ticket scanner!

Personally I think the new ground is magnificent and yes there are a few things that need improving on the concourse but it is wonderful and that wall of sound that echoes around it is fantastic. The Brighton supporters looked mesmerised by the whole pre match goings on.

We were much improved than against Leeds and still lots to improve on but very encouraging nonetheless. I like to think that Max, the Springer I lost a few weeks was looking down or maybe he was in the river (he loved swimming) and made sure the footballing gods looked after us on such a momentous occasion (I think he must have been off chasing pheasants last Monday though).

Barry is very raw but shows lots of promise and never gives up, I think, given time, he will do well.

Michael Keane played very well just as he did at the start of last season.

Tarky was all over the place although much better in the second half. He always looks much better when Jarred plays (or is that just me?), perhaps it is a partnership thing that affects his form.

Gueye was back to his usual Duracell bunny come jack russell and had a good game.

Jack G looked like he was really enjoying himself and a lovely moment carrying his daughter onto the pitch with him. He will become an icon very quickly if he continues like that. His attitude is 100%, he never gives up anything.

JP is immense, yes ok his kicking can be frustrating particularly when we are looking to run the clock down. However, as someone said above, he tries to set up attacks constantly. His shot stopping is fantastic, the save in first half after Tarky’s back pass calamity was world class. What a keeper he is.

Tim played very well, needs to show consistency now.

KDH also played well but I do think he tried to overdo it now and again and could release the ball quicker. If Dibling signs and once the team gels more I am hoping that we will see a much slicker midfield and forward play.

Jimmy G, what a fantastic goal! Minteh gave him the run around in the first half, less so in the second but Jimmy stuck to his task - not easy when playing out of position.

Ndiaye seems capable of dribbling his way through a whole team at times, such a great player to watch. He needs to clear it from the danger areas sometimes though, nothing wrong with launching it now and again.

Jake O Brien had a steady enough game but we desperately need a proper right back and get Jake up to speed in the middle.

Overall I thought we deserved it simply because we were more clinical.

After the game I decided to buy a programme. There were a couple of Brighton supporters in the same queue one of whom reckoned the atmosphere was worse than the Emirates and he never heard us until the 76th minute. Fortunately his mate told him to STFU and stop embarrassing himself before the inevitable tirade of abuse descended. Just bitter about losing I expect.

Like others I miss Goodison and all of her shortcomings and was truly worried that I wouldn’t be able to take to Bramley Moore. I couldn’t have been more wrong, it is very very different but equally as beautiful and moving. Truly a ground to be proud of and one which, when truly rocking, will scare the shit out of the opposition.

Can’t wait for Wednesday, bring it on!

I thought you had lost your marbles when you proposed sending to Patterson to Sevilla. But I see on the news this is an actual thing. I just can't fathom how Sevilla, scoured the world for a RB and decided to try and get a guy who's highly injury prone and when occasionally fit has proven to be utterly inadequate as a top level RB. I could see maybe Kilmarnock or someone maybe remembering him as a youngster at Rangers and making an enquiry. But Sevilla? Just a peculiar deal.

Kellen Fisher Excellent RB watched him a couple of games now and he has a real football brain and defends well.

Not convinced by Barry, poor header of the ball and not enough pace, suggest Vardy to give us 30 minutes a game and score some goals or hijack Huijland from Man U before he gets transferred.

By the way, I was sat next to KDH this morning outside the hotel, he was with his family. I patted him on the shoulder as I walked past and said, "well played yesterday, mate".

He smiled and thanked me, he seems like a nice guy and happily posed for pics with other fans (I didn't want to pester him).

And after his family left, he put the chairs back from the other tables they'd moved them from. Good lad.

With the better ball supply in the Brighton game in comparison to no supply in the Leeds game I would have expected Beto to have been as transformed as Iroegbunam was with more positive ball progression.

By all give Barry game time , but expecting him to be the saviour and replacement for a experienced Centre Forward is a stretch.

When Dyche left the GD was -22 for the previous 38 fixtures. I think the trajectory is upwards.

Neil #36. Pity you did not get the details of the Brighton muppet. Noise reached 126dB which is the 5th highest ever - in the world. Top 3 all in Turkey and Celtic have a 129dB. Muppet needs to get his hearing tested.

Would be a much better signing than James Justin.

I think the club, want as many people as possible getting in early and staying inside the stadium, for as long as possible after the game, and be careful with your information Neil, because I can see Sainsbury’s moving the goalposts soon, once people realise their timescale!

Everton should forget about signing West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek, with Florentino Luis available.

I'm sure I read a few supporters were not happy that some parts of the pitch couldn't be seen from their seats. Not too happy.

Barry played for an hour against 2 centre backs who are slower than Michael Keane and couldn't run passed them. Hopefully he shows up more in training than on the pitch as both of those centre backs had a very easy afternoon against him.

We all hope new signings come good but first impressions take a while to shake off. He doesn't look up to speed for the Premier League yet and might take a season to bed in.

Can any fan confirm or deny this?
