Jenson Metcalfe has left Everton to join Bradford City for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined Everton at the age of five, will be joining the Bantams, newly promoted to League One, after spending last season on loan at League Two side Chesterfield. He scored once in 28 appearances and helped the Spireietes reach the play-offs.

“Everyone at Everton thanks Jenson for his commitment to the club and wishes him the best for the future,” stated the club website.

He signed his first professional contract with the Toffees on his 17th birthday and broke into the U21 side during the 2020/21 season. Named U21 Player of the Season by manager Paul Tait in 2023/24, Metcalfe never made a senior first-team appearance for the club in an official fixture.

He was part of the senior team’s pre-season squad and made appearances in several friendlies against Sligo Rovers and Preston North End last season and against Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers recently

Metcalfe made it to the bench for the Toffees’ Premier League curtain-raiser against Brighton and Hove Albion last season.

Prove them wrong, that's my advice. Good luck.

The only way he'll ‘prove them wrong' is if he's a consistent Premier League performer at a club above or at the same level as Everton.

It barely happens — Robinson at Fulham and before that Jagielka and Baines early 2000.

Chances are he won't prove them wrong at all.
