Baxter goal secures Reserves win

Skipper Jose Baxter's solitary goal was enough to lift Everton Reserves over Sunderland and extend the Blues' second string's unbeaten run to seven games.

Ross Barkley got more playing time as his rehabilitation from a lengthy spell on the sidelines continued, while Apostolos Vellios, Francisco Junior and Conor McAleny returned to the starting XI.

The Everton side included Sam Kelly, an U-18 player signed from Norwich City on a short-term contract, in his second reserves game, but he came off after just 33 minutes.

Everton: Davies; Browning, Weir, Touray, Junior; Dier, Kelly (33' Grant), Barkley; Baxter, McAleny (90+2' Forerester), Vellios (80' Hope).
Subs not used: Roberts, Pennington.
