In the 8th minute and the score is 0-0, not really any chances for either side.

Man Utd take the lead in the 15th minute when Griffiths makes a good save off a gola-bound header but the rebound falls to Fornasier who puts it away.

Everton have trouble finding their feet, with United keeping all the possession, but they hold on until the break, with Utd having to substitute one of their players.

After the break, and Chris Long came in for Conor Grant.

55th minute and it's still 1-0 but game is starting to open up a bit, with Barkley looking dangerous.

The first good chance for Everton falls to Chris Long who flashes his shot wide of the post after 66 mins.

Everton come close again: a nice ball from Barkley to Forrester whose shot from close range pings around the box and is cleared out.

Eric Dier with a long-range effort... good but over the bar. Everton still down 1-0 but Forrester goes close and forces a great save.

With Everton in the ascendancy, Hallam Hope was shown a red card for stomping on a Manc... With 10 mins left, Jasper Johns came on for Gethin Jones.

Man Utd had pretty much parked the bus in the second half, and the sending off deflated the Blues, who had no answer to the impenetrable United defence.

And to rub salt in the wounds, United break while 10-men Everton are attacking, and they scored a second goal to wrap this one up.

Everton: Griffiths; Browning, Touray, Pennington, Dier; Lundstram, Hope, Forrester; Grant (55' Long), Jones (79' Johns), Barkley.
