Chris Long has become the latest Everton Academy graduate to sign a professional contract with the club, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

The 18 year-old striker underscored his promising development in the Blues' youth system with some important goals for the U18s last season and also featured in the 2012-13 playoffs for the U21s.

His form at club level also led to him figuring as a substitute for England at the U20 World Cup this summer.

Having scored goals at every level for Everton since joining the club aged six, Long now has his sights set on consolidating his position in Alan Stubbs' U21s and breaking into the senior side under Roberto Martinez. “I've had to sacrifice a lot of things but it has been worth it to get the chance to play for Everton Football Club, “ Long told evertontv.

“I've got a lot of people to thank get for getting this far. The whole of the Everton academy have been so good to me. Hopefully I can make them proud.

“Hopefully I can get recognised by the manager and make my debut one day — that's all I want to do.

“It would be the best thing ever [to play for the first team at Goodison Park]. If I could score a goal at the Gwladys Street, I would be ecstatic. It would be unbelievable.”
