Everton Women are set for another landmark occasion as they prepare to host Manchester United Women at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

It will be the first time that the Blues Women play a match at the new waterfront stadium, having moved into Goodison Park full-time this season. 

“We are just going to go in and enjoy that one in a big stadium with a big crowd. We are super-excited for it,” said manager Brian Sorensen in the pre-match press conference.

Sorensen’s side will be hoping that the change of venue brings better fortune as they are yet to win a match since their impressive 4-1 triumph over Liverpool Women at Anfield in the Women’s Super League opener.

Since then, they’ve lost consecutive matches to Tottenham and London City at Goodison Park, lost to Brighton away from home and managed a 1-1 draw with Leicester City on the road.

As a result, they find themselves ninth in the table with four points from five matches.

Their opponents on Sunday, Manchester United, are unbeaten in the league so far. They have won three of their five matches and have shared points on the other two occasions. With 11 points, United are fourth in the league standings, two points away from Chelsea at the top.

The Toffees are going through an injury crisis at the moment. The club recently confirmed that captain Megan Finnigan will be out until 2026 as the 27-year–old centre-back needs surgery to help her ACL injury recovery.

They’re also missing goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, striker Aurora Galli and defender Rion Ishikawa, who are also out with knee problems at the moment. 

Everton will also be without Katja Snoejis on Sunday after she picked up a hamstring injury in training. However, on the brighter side, Kelly Gago is expected to return following a concussion-related absence recently.

The bottom line is that WSL rules state that at least one match per season must be played at the club’s nominated main stadium, so even though Everton have handed over their previous home for the past 133 years to their women’s team, that means Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The rule is in place to ensure that teams who traditionally play at lower league or non-league grounds get the spectacle of a major stadium at least once a year, although Goodison Park effectively gives Everton Women that opportunity every home match, something that only the Blues and Arsenal, whose women’s team regularly play in front of large crowds at the Emirates Stadium, can boast.

The Regent Road wall and turnstiles will open at 10am.
