'[He] would be exactly the right player for us'

Hamburg SV have revived their interest in signing Nikica Jelavic based on comments attributed to the Bundesliga club's sporting director.

Sky Sports quote Oliver Kreuzer as saying that his club have "been offered an opportunity" to sign the Croatian striker whom he almost signed three years ago before he joined Rangers.

Kreuzer told Hamburger Morgenpost that he thinks Jelavic is "a great player. I know him very well. I wanted to get him out of Rapid Vienna and to Graz in 2010 before he went to Rangers. That transfer only just failed."

"We have been offered an opportunity. We will deal with it."

It does not look as though it will involve a big up-front payment for Roberto Martinez to use for transfers, however.

Kreuzer added: "If we manage that [to sell two or three players] we could work out if a loan or a payment in instalments would be possible."

Kreuzer is quoted further by Hamburg-based writer, Daniel Busch, on Twitter:

UAE-based journalist, Andy Lewis, formerly of Everton's communications department, initially broke the news of Kreuzer's comments over Twitter yesterday:

The Daily Mail then picked up the story, claiming that Hamburg will lodge a £6m bid for Jelavic, and also lent their questionable weight to speculation linking the Blues with France U19 defender, Mory Kone.
