Everton name 24-man squad for USA

Everton have named a 24-man contingent for the International Champions Cup in the USA, with new signing Antolin Alcaraz and Magaye Gueye the only absentees from the expected squad.

The players flew out for California this afternoon to prepare for their first game in the inaugural competition against Juventus on Wednesday evening.

Alcaraz, who figured in the friendly against Accrington Stanley but missed out against Blackburn yesterday has an as-yet unspecified injury and won't travel but Leighton Baines does make the trip. The reason for Gueye's omission after he, too, failed to figure at Ewood Park, is unclear.

The Frenchman struggled to stay in first-team contention under David Moyes and spent the second half of last season on loan at Brest.

The club have also announced details of a series of official player meet-and-greet events while the team is in the States.

Two events are confirmed for San Francisco: one for Monday, 29 July, from 8pm-10pm at Buca di Beppo on Howard St where Tim Howard and Steven Pienaar are scheduled to be in attendance; and the second on Tuesday, 30 July, from 8.30pm to 10.30pm at McTeague's Saloon at 1237 Polk St with Phil Jagielka and Tony Hibbert.

The LA event will take place on 1st August and the one in Miami is set for the 5th, with time and venue to be confirmed for those two cities.
