Antony Evans has signed his first professional contract with Everton two weeks after he turned 17.

The club have announced that the promising midfielder put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Evans, who has been with the Blues since the age of nine, has already risen to Under-21 level at the club and has been a regular goalscorer for the U18s and David Unsworth's team over the past year.

His immediate aim now is to consolidate his position in the U21s team where he is happy working under Unsworth whom he credits for his new contract.

"[It] was down to Unsy. He’s put the faith in me by taking me to Ireland in pre-season when there are a lot of quality players he could have taken, but he chose me and I can only thank him for that," he told evertontv.

"Thankfully, I managed to show a bit of talent, my form was good and I’ve been rewarded with a professional contract.

"It’s a dream come true and all I’ve wanted since I was a kid starting out playing football.

"The senior players are like idols, so it’s been great to be playing with them because you become a better player yourself."

Well done and good luck to the lad. I can't remember the academy having so many promising young players. The future looks bright.

Good luck and well done. I'm sure he must feel ten feet tall right now. Must be an amazing moment for him and his family. Now the hard work starts!!!

I'd argue he's the most impressive offensive youngster we have at the moment, especially at his age. A tall but skillful Number 10, I like the look of him.

Probably the most talented kid we have coming through, certainly in attack. Hope he puts in the hard work and continues to impress.

Isn't it great to hear a young boy talk of being "rewarded" with a professional contract, rather than the usual glib acceptance that we usually see from many youngsters these days, that it is theirs as of right?

I'd encourage more people to get to the U21 games. There's some really exciting potential there... glimpses of the future.

Plays just behind the main striker and is a big tough kid who reacts well in the box. Should have a good future.

Great to see another young lad coming closer to fulfiling his dreams.

Good luck, Antony.
