Everton Under-21s were in action on the south coast this evening and came away with an impressive 2-0 win over Southampton.

David Henen put David Unsworth's side into the lead when his in-swinging free kick found its way through past the 'keeper in the first half.

Harry Charsley doubled the lead early in the second half and goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt played his part in preserving the clean sheet with a number of saves to keep Saints' second string at bay.

Everton U21s: Hewelt, Kenny (c), Jones (31' Ledson), Williams, Connolly, Holgate, Charsley, Grant, Dyson, Evans (70' Rodriguez), Henen (70' C Duffus).
Subs not Used: Griffiths, Walsh.

Dave I saw the team sheet earlier, Hewelt, Jones, Kenny, Holgate, Grant, Connolly, Charsley, Henen, Dyson, Williams, (for life of me cant remember the last guy). Ah ha Tony Evans. Jones went off injured, Hewelt had an absolute stormer at least 6 good saves and Ledson came on as a sub!

I like the sound of this Hewelt... Can't we get him in the 1st team?

Major cock up from me. I live 25 mins from Staplewood but didn't realise the kick off was 7pm! Caught the game live on YouTube.

Hewelt looked good, Henen has a nice touch and pace and Conor Grant looked useful. 2-0 was a good result away, but Saints hit the bar and missed an open goal on top of the saves Hewelt made. Looked a good passing team and Harry Charlsey finished well from a pull back after great Kenny run into the box.

Saints had a largely U18 side out as the commentator reminded us every five minutes. Pretty comfortable until they brought their winger on with about 15 to go.

Malcolm (#4) thanks for that, looks like Browning will be in the squad for tonight's game as he wasn't part of the U21s last night.

Hope they know what they're doing with Leandro Rodriguez. I want him training with the men of first team, not travelling round with a bunch of kids. In his position, I would feel insulted.
