Everton Under-23s have travelled to Spain for a week-long pre-season training camp.

David Unsworth's Premier League 2 champions touched down at Murcia airport on Sunday evening before heading to the La Manga region on the southeast coast.

The 24-strong squad will now step up their preparations for the new campaign by training in temperatures of around 35° Celsius.

The trip will conclude with a match against an unconfirmed team on Saturday before a flight home the following day.

I believe this is known in business terms as 'sweating the assets'

So who is the names missing here?

Jonjoe Kenny, Callum Connolly and Kieran Dowell. Are we to hope they are all now considered first team players, along with Calvert Lewin and Lookman who obviously were, but played a few U23s to keep sharp?

I was thinking the same thing, Steve. But we must now have 30-odd in the first-team squad. I guess that's okay as those homegrown Academy young 'uns under 21 don't count towards the Premier League squad limit of 25...

30-odd first team players, and still short in a few positions!!

Is there a list, Chris?

Pennington is missing off both lists; that's him off on loan for sure. Wouldn't be a bad idea as he needs games now.

Yes Steve, on the club site.

No Barkley again. Getting fishy that...

Aidan Baker, on the Cuco Martina thread, points out that Joe Williams is also missing from this U23s list.

Any relation of yours Chris? Can you shed any light... (Joking with you mate!)

Steve, our Joe is looking after Ross's groin... or so he tells me!

Posters? With Ross missing, anyone know the prognosis on 'injured pride'. How many weeks out? 😀

Where is Leandro Rodriguez? His loan to Beveren finished at the end of last season. Is he injured?

Calum Dyson was heavily linked with a loan move to Plymouth after his preseason brace a week or so ago but obviously that didn't happen. Plymouth are League One now, btw.

While throwing names around, wasn't Jose Baxter supposed to be joining the U23s this season? Not noticed him around as yet.

Re: Barkley Chris (#9), I'd say it's less 'fishy' and more 'transparent' - clearly it's over for Ross at Everton (partly/largely through his own action it seems) – Koeman/the club have been very clear about the contract and refused to be pressured. Ross/his agent clearly thinks he can do/earn better elsewhere though so we're at an impasse.

I don't really blame Koeman at all. If a player is going to go or is sulking then you have to cut him off from the team and focus on the players who are committed to the cause.

I suppose it's fishy that the club are saying he's injured, but equally that's sort of a respectful white lie I suppose. I note we're not saying Niasse is injured, feel really sorry for him to be honest, not his fault we overpaid and he seems to have behaved decently and kept his mouth shut regardless of whether he was pushed out on loan or played with the U23s.

I really hoped it would've worked out for him at Hull (guess if they'd stayed up it might) as he looked like he could doe a job at a side a bit lower down the league.

Aidan, I think Baxter was 'training' with the U23s wasn't he whilst trying to get his career back on track, not necessarily on Everton's payroll though I thought.

Pretty sure that is the end of the road for Barkley why would we be bidding over £40m for Sigurdsson and buying Rooney and Klasson? Feel a little let down by the lad he had a big contract in front of him and still ain't signed.

I can only see him being a bit-part player for Spurs. Staying and fighting for his place would only increase his chances of going to Russia next year.

Does anyone know when our first warm-up game is in Holland?

Reports that Joshua Zirkzee, 16 years old striker from Feyenoord on Merseyside to discuss terms with Everton. Seen at JLA allegedly.

Prolific scorer and part of Dutch development squad. By the look of the photos he looks a big lad. Supposed to be bound for Arsenal.

If true we're going for it again.

Fee also agreed for Lewis Gibson with Newcastle
