Everton could move for Dendoncker

| 22/07/2022 62comments  |  Jump to last

Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker has emerged as a potential target for Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard as they seek to bolster Everton's midfield before the end of the transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues could explore a move for the 27-year-old "in the coming weeks".

Although Wolves have an option to extend it by a year, Dendoncker is entering the final year of his contract and could, therefore, be priced more attractively than his team-mate Morgan Gibbs-White whom the Midlands club aren't keen on selling unless they receive a large offer.

Lyndon, you've heard that wrong, mate. It was actually "Everton could move for Dead Donkey".

Brian: the player's not interested. Too much competition in the dead donkey department at Finch Farm...

Brian @1,

You have heard that wrong mate, apparently Everton have been told to drop the dead donkey. 😀

A: Half an hour...

Whereas the obvious candidate as a goalkeeping coach, Neville Southall, has consistently been overlooked. The reason being in my opinion is that Neville is nobody's yes-man. He is outspoken with socialist credentials. Everton historically has a hierarchy steeped in Tory tradition. Lampard's political leanings suited our board.

Great managers such as Shankly, Ferguson and Clough would never be considered for EFC because of their Labour Party affiliations. Politics should never enter football. But make no mistake it does.

Zero excitement for the upcoming season. The names mentioned don't help at all. Where is Riquelme, for fuck's sake!

I never thought Dendocker was crap and it seemed he had an impressive season before Covid, if I recall correctly. The price is obviously an issue since it is hard to argue that he wouldn't improve this side. He would offer some flexibility in defence and midfield.

When comparing Dendoncker stats with Allan during last season in the same amount of games, Allan has proven to be more effective in tackling and winning possession. So someone else like Allan but not as good is just like signing a similar type who is also not creative.

He covers the problem position in holding midfield.

Just a bit weird all the rumours relate to:

- Chelsea reserves
- Spurs reserves
- Wolves reserves
- Burnley players

I guess it is linked to Lampard, Thelwell and some kind of sweetener to the Richarlison and Alli deals.

More dross, this is becoming harder and harder to be upbeat about the Blues.

Robert, these are the big transfer circles which a club like Everton now bestride. "It's fast and furious in the ready money round."

Another smoke-screen rumour put out to distract as Brighton sign Grillitsch on a free.

If he's good enough, Wolves aren't letting him go for anything we can afford. That simple.

I rate Barkley above Dendoncker and I wouldn't want Barkley back under any circumstances.

It is crazy that we can't even land one signing that would excite the fans and improve us as a team.

I don't care about age right now and someone like Eriksen, a proper midfield general and a sober Danny Drinkwater would do me just fine until we get some stability and money.

But the sound of silence from the club is deafening and to me all the players' faces and Lampard's look like thunder, so nobody is happy apparently.

I sigh before I write this…

Moyes made a very good team out of ‘spares':

Carsley, Pienaar, Kilbane, Neville, Bent, etc.

I would love to think Lampard could do the same.

Barkley linked more and more... that's more likely than anyone from Wolves.

Gees, our current links make Carl Tiler, Mitch Ward and Gareth Farrelly look like world beaters.

Do we actually have any scouts or do we just throw darts at the 2015 Rothman's Year Book?

Brian Murray

Robert @14.

I wish you would all do one, reminiscing about that glass-ceiling limited idiot. He is to Everton what Roy Hodgson was to Liverpool. Total under-achiever but they wouldn't put up with it. Different mindset to us. But not and never will be to me.

Not good enough. Are we just looking for someone who's got a pair of football boots or someone who's played for Wolves?

Poor, poor, very poor.

Aren't we supposed to have a fancy new Director of Football who can find some new talent? Or can he only look at Premier League players that no-one else wants?

Robert @14, of that list, I'd take Pienaar. That's it.

And I'd have him at Finch Farm tomorrow coaching in the Academy.

Came through Ajax's then satellite club in South Africa, progressed to Ajax and then onto Borrusia Dortmund before moving to Everton. Moved onto Tottenham where I don't really recall him setting the world alight before coming back to Everton.

So hardly jobs for the boys, but he has a fine footballing pedigree.

Currently coaching in the Ajax Academy.

I will add, my son tells me that Carsley is a decent coach. And that he has made a conscious decision to stay at youth level. It's a very different skill, youth and senior coaching.

Sean #23,

Or, for that matter, Derek Dougan or John Richards – both handy forwards as I recall.

We were interested in this lad in 2018 when he was 23 and at Anderlecht, but we brought in Andre Gomes instead.

Sean 23, I'm sure Chairman Bill would love a Billy Wright or a Derek Dougan. He could then recall some of the “good times” he's enjoyed.

Beat me to it, Mike.

Colin @ 29,

I had to google Derek Dougan as I didn't actually know who he was. I know we're slow at moving for our targets but I think we may have definitely missed the boat on this one lol.

Mike Doyle
31 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Colin. And as we need a playmaker, what about niggly former Wolves favourite Willie Carlin (I think he was a scouser but may be wrong on that bit). Must be around 80 now if still with us.
Dave Abrahams
32 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Danny (22), Pienaar would be the only one I'd take out of those players as well.
Brent Stephens
33 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Well we did once have a Billy Wright.
Dave Abrahams
34 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Mike (31),

Yes, Willie Carlin a cracking little inside forward for Liverpool and England Boys. He never made it at Liverpool but was eventually signed by Brian Clough for Derby County.

I don't think he played for Wolves though, Mike, although you are right about his age around the 80 mark if he is still going. He was from the South end of the city, I think he went to St Patrick's school.

John Graham
35 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Or Bernie Wright. Now he was a big beast. Couldn't get a shirt to fit him.
Looked like a farmer and played like a battering ram.

Willie Carr and Ernie Hunt – famous for the donkey flip free-kick.
Brian Murray

Willie Carr. Every time I went to Molyneux, that ginger fella always seemed to be against us in the bad old '70s. Didn't know he was a scouser though.

Cheers Dave. Could have sworn I recall Hugh Johns commenting on Willie playing for Wolves during the Sunday afternoon football programme that Gerald Sinstadt presented. Though it was around 50 years ago so, you are probably right.

John @35.

Didn't Bernie the Bolt knock down Catterick's door after being told he was dropped? Amazing a manager like him – his judgement went completely after his ticker problems.

Tiger McLaughlin was another Harry signing I think. Shudder. Glad of these good times...

Brian, Carr and Carlin.
Clive Rogers
41 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Brian @39, I seem to remember that Bernie Wright was signed while Catterick was absent recuperating from his heart attack, and he later commented he would never have signed him.
Brian Murray
42 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Clive,

I stand corrected on that one but I'm sure McLaughlin was Catterick's doing, along with Henry Newton and maybe even Rod Belfit – although maybe I'm drifting more into the Bingham years. Mentally scarred by it all, to be honest.

Yes, Brian @39, luckily he didn't get to him.

Some terrible signings over the years...

I thought we cancelled Bernie Wright's contract when he head-butted our coach at the time (name escapes me), for dropping him for the Anfield derby?

I remember standing on the Anfield Road end being 5-0 down and the whole end shouting – "Bernie, Bernie, Bernie Wright, Bernie, Bernie Wright!"

Peter Mills
46 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Bernie Wright was signed in early ‘72. He made his debut as a sub coming on after we had gone 4-0 down at Anfield a month later.

It was a grim afternoon, with Tommy Wright scoring an own goal in the first minute and Tiger McLaughlin adding another later on.

I certainly wasn't chanting Bernie Wright's name, he was an embarrassment, someone about whom I distinctly remember thinking – “How can such a bad player be playing for Everton?”

Sadly, I have had that thought many, many times in the subsequent 50 years.

Brian Murray
47 Posted 22/07/2022 at
Peter. Yes, I remember my older sister coming back from the game, blue and white ribbons in her hair, sobbing her heart out. For what it's worth (not much), Shankly saying the Everton fans never stopped singing.

The '70s Everton was taking shape all right. Even Latchford couldn't score in a derby.

Kieran Kinsella
50 Posted 23/07/2022 at
Can we just sign someone not made of glass, not a big-time Charlie, not inclined to out-score our striker with own-goals, not limited to passing 5 yards sideways, not recommended by a super agent, not bought by Bill from Rangers Reserves for three times his value, not slower than a snail, not on Jeff Bezos wages, and above all — not a tosser or Tosun? Is that too much to ask?

When was the last time we bought someone who exceeded expectations for more than a handful of games? Kevin Kilbane?

Mike Gaynes
51 Posted 23/07/2022 at
Kieran! You got bail from the Minny jail? Excellent. Glad you're back home safe.

I would say Coleman, Jagielka, Barry, Gray and Mykolenko would all fit that description.

Kieran Kinsella
52 Posted 23/07/2022 at
Mike,

I'd say Gray doesn't… in fact, I'd say he is that guy who seemed good for about five games. I loved him but now I feel like I was fooled.

The others? Okay, fine… you're right, except I'd say Mykolenko, while positive so far, is too soon to tell. But regardless, what a sad story — you name 5 players two of whom were signed by Moyes a decade ago. One signed by Martinez shortly thereafter. So nothing from Ron, Sam, Marco or Carlo or indeed Walsh or Brands. All of whom were immensely well paid. What a shambles.

ps: Yeah I got out of Minneapolis cause it turns out I've a lot of long-lost Polish relatives out that way, courtesy of Ancestry.com.

There was a time, not long ago, that we were linked with exciting, skilful players like Zinchenko, Gibbs-White, Lingard, Cornet etc…. Now we are looking at plodders like this fella? He makes Andres Gomes look like Speedy Gonzalez, for fuck's sake!!!

Kenwright Out!! Until then, we are fucked.

A recruitment process done on the back of a cigarette packet. It's almost like "who was yer man in that game we played a few weeks ago - he looked okish, get him"..

Completely devoid of any creativity whatsoever.

Pathetic.
