Season › 2024-25 › News The Rumour Mill Everton to explore Kalvin Phillips move from Manchester City Michael Kenrick | 10/10/2025 20comments | Jump to last The latest crumb of nonsense from the Rumour Mill asserts that David Moyes is keen to reunite with Kalvin Phillips, who he had on loan at West Ham. Everton are setting their sights on Kalvin Phillips ahead of the January window, sources have told Football Insider. Sources say Everton have an active interest in Phillips going into the winter window as they assess the market for central midfielders. Philips moved from Leeds United to Man City at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, but his time in Manchester has been a disaster. Article continues below video content The Englishman was branded “overweight” by Guardiola during his first pre-season at the club, and the situation has failed to improve since then. Phillips has made just 16 Premier League appearances for Man City during three at the club, amid unproductive loan spells at West Ham Utd and Ipswich Town, and has never managed to establish himself in the matchday squad, let alone the starting lineup. Disclaimer () Paul Kossoff 1 Posted 09/10/2025 at 23:45:38 Everton are looking into a potential move for Manchester City's England midfielder? (Last time he played for England, 20 November 2023.) Kalvin Phillips, 29, in January. (Football Insider.)Please please let this be utter bullshit! Moyes banned the useless, overpaid, pineapple-headed twat from the West Ham team because he was shocked about his attitude in training. If Moyes gets this Ponce in, then I'm done with him. Backhanders time is it, eh, Moyes? Haven't you got enough cash already? Put the fucking team first, not your account. Ray Roche 2 Posted 10/10/2025 at 07:52:44 Paul Kossoff,So, some clickbait crap on NewsNow claims Everton are after a “pineapple headed twat”, who is also a “Ponce”, and this revelation leads you to claim that Moyes is after a backhander and is only interested in his bank account? Really? You need help. Brent Stephens 3 Posted 10/10/2025 at 09:10:34 Ray, Well said. John Williams 4 Posted 10/10/2025 at 09:18:14 Paul,What makes you think that Moyes is the guy who chooses the players to buy? It's more likely the Director of Football these days and the coach has to get on with it.Not sure it was Moyes who brought in Phillips from Man City while he was at West Ham, more likely Brady. Paul Kossoff 5 Posted 10/10/2025 at 15:18:13 Ray, So you think backhanders in football don't exist? Oh, okay, Ray, you need help more than I do; you are very naive. Most of the things I say on here are tongue-in-cheek, but on Phillips I really do think he's a low quality, lazy, talentless, pineapple-headed, bog-standard, not fit for purpose, ponce, who has stolen a living because of some idiots who thought he was quality. Oh and I would rather have ten Tom Davies than him. Is Moyes's mate the ex red Charlie Adam our set-piece coach still here? No favours or backhanders in football? Paul Kossoff 6 Posted 10/10/2025 at 16:15:18 John 20. What makes me think Moyes buys the players? Read this article about Moyes and Philips, you will change your mind.David Moyes makes bizarre, yet extremely honest Kalvin Phillips admission thatll raise some eyebrowsI can't remember another article that points to a worse signing than Philips to West ham. Hope he dosn't come to Everton, because if he does, then I'll never trust Moyes again. John Williams 7 Posted 10/10/2025 at 17:30:49 Are you saying that Pep is a bog standard manager as well? After all, he signed Phillips for Man City... or could that have been a D of F?How many games did he play for Man City? Ray Roche 8 Posted 11/10/2025 at 08:46:35 Paul Kossoff,I am certainly not naive, I imagine that there are forms of corruption in football at some level and you only need to have read articles by Brian Glanville as far back as the eighties when Italian football was corrupt to see that. And the betting on players getting a first-half yellow card and, guess what, he gets a yellow card… but it's proving it that's the problem. But to accuse Moyes of corruption? Do you think he'd destroy his legacy and reputation for a handful of silver? Really? He's minted. Why would he?And as for “pineapple-headed ponce”? Oh dear…, Ray Roche 9 Posted 11/10/2025 at 08:55:49 ps: Another clickbait article states Everton have no interest in Philips today. Paul Kossoff 10 Posted 11/10/2025 at 23:44:50 Ray 31.In July 1995, former Arsenal manager George Graham was found guilty of financial misconduct by the Football Association (FA). He was found guilty of accepting an illegal payment, or "bung," from an agent in relation to player transfers, which resulted in a one-year ban from football and being sacked by the club. Graham maintained that the money was an "unsolicited gift," not a bribe. He risked his legacy for a back-hander, and he was higher profile then Moyes is now. As I said, if Moyes signed Philips, then that to me, proves Moyes is not to be trusted, my opinion, but I'll be in the Moyes out brigade if he does, let's hope you're right, and it's clickbait. Eric Myles 11 Posted 12/10/2025 at 04:01:05 Weren't we rumoured to be interested in Phillips when Dyche was manager?Paul, Moyes didn't buy Phillips, he went to West Ham on a season-long loan with no purchase clause in it, so he had no intention of making it permanent. Eric Myles 12 Posted 12/10/2025 at 04:11:51 That should be a half-season loan as he was brought in in the January.Dyche's interest in Phillips. Ray Roche 13 Posted 12/10/2025 at 08:47:22 Paul,I remember the Graham business, I don't necessarily agree that he was higher profile but he would certainly be nowhere near as well remunerated as Moyes has been. And how on Earth did Grobelaar wriggle out of his ‘brown paper envelope' situation when he was filmed accepting it? I said earlier that there is no doubt in my mind that there is corruption in football but I don't believe for one second that Moyes would be involved. Tony Abrahams 14 Posted 12/10/2025 at 08:57:58 Seriously, Ray? I'm not suggesting for one minute that David has got his hands in the till but, where there is money, there is always going to be people taking advantage of certain situations.George Graham was the fall guy and ended up taking the rap, although it could have been anyone of a few very high profile people who were allegedly taking bungs.Just because it was peanuts compared to the money on offer now, I don't think it would have been peanuts at the time. Ian Jones 15 Posted 12/10/2025 at 09:35:00 Paul K,'Is Moyes's mate the ex red Charlie Adam our set-piece coach still here? No favours or backhanders in football?'I think he left in June. Steve Brown 16 Posted 12/10/2025 at 10:46:12 George Graham definitely had a higher profile than David Moyes has now. 2 league titles, 1 FA Cup, 3 league cups, 1 European Cup Winner's Cup. Ray Roche 17 Posted 12/10/2025 at 12:36:45 Tony, “Seriously Ray?”, to what bit? I already say that I think that there's corruption in football, it's proving it that's the problem here. Toney, Sturridge and others have fallen foul of betting rules yet received nothing like the punitive sentence handed down to Kay etc. Steve @40,Graham was high profile because of his success but, with TV, social media, and the plethora of football podcasts and tv programs, I certainly think it's possible Moyes is as well known as Graham was. As for remuneration, transfer fees, players' wages and managers' wages have rocketed in a way that we couldn't have dreamt of in the sixties and seventies. Suggesting that players' earnings would rise to millions of pounds a month would have been ridiculed. Players may well have earned more than a plumber but how many players from those days lived the life that current average players do? And how many needed to work once their career finished? Tony Abrahams 18 Posted 12/10/2025 at 13:01:31 I thought that after I had posted, Ray, and was just making the point about believing that there is usually a greater level of corruption with the more money that is involved and therefore siphoned away.I thought Graham was very unlucky because he did seem to take the rap, but you only have to look at more recent cases, like the one that probably did the suits in the FA a big favour when "more wants more" Allardyce lost his job because of greed. Alan J Thompson 23 Posted 13/10/2025 at 09:34:26 John (#3); It does make you wonder who signed an overweight player and how he got through the medical. Robert Tressell 24 Posted 13/10/2025 at 09:39:05 We just need Luke Shaw at left back and Raheem Sterling and we can gradually morph into England circa 2021.
