Heitinga eyeing Goodison exit

John Heitinga has indicated that he is unlikely to extend his stay at Everton, suggesting the club should sell him this summer or risk losing him for nothing next year.

The Dutch international endured a frustrating 2012-13 season playing second fiddle to Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in David Moyes's last season but comments attributed to him in The Mirror suggest that he isn't waiting the appointment of a new boss at Goodison Park.

"If they want to earn something for me, this is the moment," the 29 year-old said. "I have made no arrangement with the club about that. I will just wait and see what happens."

Heitinga, who has been with the Blues for almost four years now, also revealed that a move to Fenerbahçe fell through in January when the Turkish club were unable to agree a fee.

"Everton asked too much and the deal collapsed," he said.

'Asking too much' to Fenerbahçe is asking anything.

They're worse than Kenwright the way they dealt with us over Yobo and I'd only sell someone to them if it was cash up front.

All seems fair enough. It will be turned into a "player feud" but there's nothing too out of order with his comments.

Obviously he should now be sold. He's happy to go and Everton have previously wanted to sell.

About the only interesting aspect of this is that there's no "lets wait until we get a new manager and see if he wants me". Along with the contract to Ossie, maybe the new manager has been there all along.

I'm baffled by his form last season - after how brilliantly he did in the previous campaign.

This was reported a few days ago by Dutch Football on twitter and barely got a murmur in replies

That nudge on Cole during the penalty shoot out and Cashleys startled response was worth the gate money.
Cheers Johnny, no histrionics always behaved like a true pro, good luck where ever you go.

I hope this is true.

Remember his "I'll cycle myself to Barcelona" comment, well, I've got a bike he can borrow.

Sadly for him he was too inconsistent, when he was good he was up there with the best, when he was at his worst he would be brutally exposed...

He's a fraud, all bluster and bravado but gets outpaced and out muscled too easily and often in the wrong position. Raped by Benteke at Goodison, needs to go quickly.
Thanks Jonny.

Coulda, shoulda been a legend but too inconsistent and never really came over as committed to the Club on any level.

Mentally not right for the majority of the season it would appear.

Nose got put out of joint by being dropped from the off, which I have some sympathy with after his form the previous season. He probably felt like getting off from then.

When he did come in, the higher line we were playing didnt suit him and he struggled.

Never recovered and after that it was downhill, culminating in the move collapsing in Jan when it was probably best for both parties to end it.

Playing for a team that defends a bit deeper he will be a good addition for a team that plays a system that suits him, with the play in front of him and less chance of getting turned.

But all in all, right that he goes, we get him off the wage bill and get a young hungry player to ultimately replace Distin long term. He should be able to do another year first choice no problem though.

Lets hope we don't give him away, if he wants out, then fair enough, but should get reasonable fee towards replacement.

Ta ra fella. Sorry to say you won't be missed.

Thanks for the Cashley moment but your place isn't here any more.

A year too late. Hopefully we can still get £3-4m for him. Have to say I have never been a fan. A good defender on his day but inconsistent and not ideally suited to the premier league where either pace or strength is required by centre backs.

I'll be gutted if/when he leaves, but wouldn't blame him, after the way he was dealt with last August. Also, if he has actually said these things regarding a fee, well done, this is what someone who cares about the club would say.

Johnny is a bit of an enigma for me.

I like the bloke
He has put in some good performances
He has had some stinkers

Saying that "if they want a few bob for me then now is the time" is speaking plain truth. No problem there Johnny

Good riddance to the clear winner of being captain of my worst ever 11. Will always be remembered as the defender who closed people down by standing 15 yards off them, holding his hands behind his back. Hving given them 15 yards, he then still got done for pace. I will pay for the flight if you wish Mr Sheitinga.

Unbelievable how we send players who have done a job for us on their way. Heitinga has not been a regular this season, and has not been up to replacing either Jags or Distin. His lack of pace has been exposed, and I wouldnt be surprised if he would admit it himself.

But he has been a good player for us, didnt he get player of the year once? Where was the bile then. Maybe not a starter, but a good stop gap when he came in. A small squad gets smaller.
Best of luck Johnny and thanks for now!

Lets hurry this one up, cash in and move on. Johnny had a terrible season, and what's worse still, looks as though he simply didn't want to play for us.

He needs to play in a team that has the ball, not chasing shadows and last ditch tackles.

I certainly think he is capable that's for sure, you don't play like he did the season before last just by chance. He has also been good at his other clubs so I will put this down to confidence and lack of first team opportunities. I kind of felt sorry for him in all honesty because he was playing well and then ended up getting dropped.

So what do we think Johnnie's worth?

That's Johnny (sic) Heitinga not 'johnnies' in case we've got some clever dicks in here!

Brin - with a year left, anything over £5m great business imo, plus we'd be freeing up his wages (50-60 grand a week?) for someone who might actually get a game.

Brin, It's still about something for the weekend!!.

I wouldn't be suprised at £3.5m. As Eugene says £5m would be good business though, free up his wages for a further £3m.
