A leaked document on a football scandal shows how the elites see the people

Everton likes to style itself as The People’s Club, but many of the people who make up the support don’t see it as such. Instead they see an organisation that maintains its distance from the people who support it, especially those who are independently-minded.

The club’s decision to change its badge recently prompted widespread opposition. Everton has apologised for not consulting fans, but the new version will stay in place for the coming season.

"The football establishment likes to say it works with the fans, but the fans it likes to work with are the ones it grants permission to organise to. More independent alternatives have to be marginalised"

Hard to argue with - see badge change.

The linked Dave Boyle piece -"10 things I know..." is very entertaining, especially number 3 about the Scottish chairman (rude certainly, but very honest)

The more I read about Tyrell, the more I question his appointment.

Who in the right mind would appoint ... can't believe I started that question!

There are some brilliant quotes in this piece:

The Blue Union believes in “the integration of fans into a real People’s Club” and sets itself against a situation in which “the fans’ opinion, the fans’ voice, the fans’ ideas are increasingly deferred in favour of those of the club’s owners, the Premier League and the media organisations who inject billions into the game”.

How it is possible for any Evertonian to not be moved to support such an admirable goal 100% is frankly beyond my comprehension.

Anybody who gets close enough to peer into the murky world of football will tell you it ain't pretty.

I have a journo friend who works for a National and covers EFC quite frequently and his opinion has often been that money is basically corrupting just about everybody in the game and stripping them of their morals.

So really its no surprise to me to find that the people atop of this steaming pyramid of shite will do all they can to preserve their positions and keep the cash rolling in. Pigs at the trough indeed.

This story doesn't surprise me in the least. Tyrrell has left, I just hope we get someone in who will at least acknowledge the fans. I have no idea how someone could turn Tyrrell's into such a Machiavellian position.

I get sick of the contemptuous way the fans are treated by Everton's senior management. But what do I know? I am just one of the plebs.

Michael, I doubt it is beyond your comprehension. The Blue Union don't own enough shares in a limited company to matter a gust of wind. We are tilting at windmills hoping for it to be different... sadly.

Dave Kelly, the penny for me has now dropped... a militant union man who is completely for the workers and finds capitalism distasteful and abhorrent; a man who just wants to be a nuisance. The Blue Union et al the same.

The statement above that created this post is utter bollocks. You're an embarrassment to my club, all of you... you achieve nothing other than to create hatred of the club and it's board, and between fans. I hope you are very proud of yourselves.

Kelly, why not concentrate on your real trade union activity or is it you can't since Mrs Thatcher squashed you all, or are you not satisfied with losing thousands of people their jobs based on your Up the Workers mentality that you now want to lose people their jobs at Everton?

The club first and the people that invest and risk all to protect our club equally first as you lot have no better answers than anyone else – apart from the fact that you do not like the thought that some of them might make some money.

Who appointed Kelly as the spokesman for 99 per cent of the support he represents? The guys that attended his race evening, which was about twenty... By the way, no accounts still provided by the Blue Union against their donations and fund raising? They did have some tee-shirts made which probably wiped them out. I never saw anyone wear one.

I stand for the fans who are very happy with my club and its stakeholders and the future. I will attend the meeting also looking forward to debating with Kelly his real reasons for what he stands for, which is a desire to get back to the union philosophy of controlling the management and the club to make him feel important when he is nothing but a self-important nuisance.

Wow, Paul... Thatcherism is not dead!

Perhaps it might help to know that these pearls of wisdom come from the same source who only a couple of months ago guaranteed that Fellaini AND Moyes were going to Arsenal:

Like Fellaini — and I guarantee this by the way — I know he is going to Arsenal. I can categorically assure you all that Fellaini is already an Arsenal player. Pre-contract only with one caveat: the Champions League.

Moyes is going to Arsenal also, although deal not agreed; he will decide himself at the end of the season. There are no other options so it's a straight choice: us or them, as they may not be in the Champions League also.

Paul
it is my Club as much as it is yours.
Whatever you do and wherever you go please do not speak on my behalf.
I am no militant , radical or member of a Trades Union.
I am a supporter of Everton Football Club and a supporter of the Blue Union and what it stands for.
Michael is right, Thatcherism is obviously not dead with people like you spouting such shite.
I can remember what Thatcher did to my City and countless Northern towns.
Well done Paul for reminding us that there are supporters of those who "invest and risk all" and "might make some money"
I wasn't at the Casa today but I look forward to hearing of your debate with Dave Kelly.

Paul Landon,

You were not at the meeting. Why did you not attend?

You have embarrassed yourself with your "looking forward to debating with Dave Kelly" bravado, then giving it a miss.

Paul Landon - Alan B'stard? Only not in a funny way. Just in the psychotically, red-faced, hell fire and damnation, right wing, way. Without a glimmer of intelligence, obviously.

Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.

Paul Landon: Thank you for your kind words, " a militant union man who is completely for the workers and finds capitalism distasteful and abhorrent; a man who just wants to be a nuisance. The Blue Union et al the same."

Praise indeed, how refreshing to see you post something quite accurate and factual. I have spent a life time fighting for what I believe is right. Fighting for the rights of workers, for the weak and the vulnerable, waged, unwaged, the sick and disabled in both a paid capacity by my employer, a Trade Union and a personal capacity as a Trade Unionist.

In response to your comments "who appointed Kelly as the spokesman for 99 per cent of the support he represents? The guys that attended his race evening, which was about twenty... By the way, no accounts still provided by the Blue Union against their donations and fund raising? They did have some tee-shirts made which probably wiped them out. I never saw anyone wear one."

I have never been appointed as the spokesperson for the Blue Union or any other Organisation for that matter, that I am a member or supporter of. However, I have been elected to the position of Chairman of the Blue Union on two separate occasions. Unlike the Clubs undemocratic, unelected and unaccountable Fans Forum.

I am unable to answer your comments regarding the Race Nights, I only attended the first one for an hour or so ( I was the Best-man at my Brothers Wedding, appointed not elected) and the second one I was unfortunately in Hospital.

Both events proved to be successful, raised much needed funds and we also managed to make, albeit a small donation to a Charity that we support. Regarding t-shirts if you wish to order one they can be ordered via or Website .Our accounts have been audited and presented to our supporters, at our meetings. You obviously have never seen them because you neither attend our meetings or support our cause.

I can only assume that you never attended our meeting yesterday on the basis that you never raised any of your concerns, nor did you see the abundance of the said t-shirts, badges and leaflets.

In closing can I thank all those Evertonians who attended yesterdays meeting. A special mention to all at Yellowhouse, particularly to George McKane for the endeavours, To ToffeeWeb for offering their services to stream the event and to all the Management, Staff and Customers of the Casa.

The Everton Circus will now relocate a couple of hundred yards down Hope Street to "The Phil." for the much anticipated General Meeting. Not like Bill to put on a Production on in a Theatre is it !

I'm glad Paul Landon (#202) has added a heavy dose of real politick into the thread, to remind all TWebbers — or, to call you by your real name, the Communist Party of Greater Merseyside of the fabulous achievements of Mrs Thatcher.

It has been 25 long, painful years since she was knifed in the back but her achievements — I don't mind overusing the word — are there for all to see. Since she single-handedly crushed the unions, management have been able to manage without Marxist dogma, which over the last quarter of a century has seen British industry become the world leader again!

Compare and contrast our industrial performance with Germany, with its left-wing dogma of workers on the board interfering with decision-making, profit-sharing schemes, and muddled-headed belief that workers can have anything positive input into management – and look at the mess German industry is in.

Sadly, this German, or should we say fascist/Maoist approach mentality continues in their football — with disastrous results. Instead of allowing the free market to run football as it is in this country, which has brought about well run successful financial clubs, the Germans opted for supporter run clubs, with disastrous results as the Bundesliga is the laughing stock of Europe.

Mrs Thatcher’s glorious legacy is there to all to see, let the bosses boss and the workers work, sit back and bask in the warm glow of success!!!

David Hallwood@493 - had me worried for a minute, but very funny once I realised it was satire.

If you click through to the actual 'leaked article' from Tyrrell, you find the typical response from the corporate elite when its power is questioned - ignore the actual issues and criticise the motives and backgrounds of those raising the questions. Paul Landon does the same. Attack Dave Kelly and more or less ignore his arguments.

I sometimes find Blue Union arguments naïve and unrealistic, but they - like the Spirit of Shankly (see the article) - are an important corrective to the corporate capture of modern football, There is no single voice of and for fans, but thank god we have more than the idiot ramblings of a Thatcher necrophiliac.
