Jones's departure part of backroom shake-up

Roberto Martinez's assistant Graeme Jones will be following his boss out of Everton along with other members of the Catalan's staff in a clear-out at Finch Farm, report the Liverpool Echo.

As Everton search for Martinez's successor, the now former manager's coaches Dennis Lawrence and Ià±aki Bergara will also be leaving the club along with his chief scout Kevin Reeves.

Jones, Bergara and Reeves all came with Martinez from Wigan Athletic with Lawrence coming on board later.

Part one completed. Now get rid of certain board members, Mr Kenwright and Elstone, some players, the PR and marketing team and pray we get the manager right.

Excellent news.
The Club should immediately cancel all holidays for the wasters wearing - falsely - our shirt.
The only players allowed out should be those wasters picked for the Euros, and that should NOT include any of our England contingent.
Tomorrow morning they should bring in half a dozen ex PTIs from the Army and spend the close season getting our wasters fit !
We may not win any games next season but at least we'll be able to run about for more than 30 minutes !

It's not the players' fault, they have to play to the managers system. I don't think any of them liked it and neither did we. Onward Evertonians

This speaks volumes. There have been rumours of an 'us and them' situation at Finch Farm. Martinez and his staff against the players. I can only imagine the allegiance of Duncan, Unsie etc was to Everton, not Martinez, unlike the guys above. I'm glad they have gone. A clean sweep, and now we can start again. Starting Sunday - COYB!

Nice to see the Wiganer's all given the boot. I take it Ferguson stays?? Or at least until the new set up decide if they want him?? I hope the club give s statement in more detail about who has stayed and who has been released. Not forgetting the several players (Namely Hibbert, Osman and Gibson) who are out on contract next month.

They were a big part of the problem. If we had retained someone like Weir, Stubbs or even Neville we might have retained some of the defensive base that served Martinez well in his first season. That said, Martinez seems like he only wanted 'yes' men around him, so it was always unlikely to happen.

I thought Kevin Reeves did a decent job but he's definitely blotted his copy book if he was the guy who did the background work on the Niasse deal.

Ross, I know you read this website and so all I will say is this. Have a good Euros and come back with a clear mind and worry not.

The manager has gone, as has his Bully Boy Jones (Alan at 20 I also saw the wanker giggling away last night). Ross, new season. Already looking forward to seeing you play in a team managed properly and with some fresh talent.

I took it as read that all Martinez's side kicks would go with him, I always thought that Duncan's role at the club was purely cosmetic.

David Unsworth has done a very good job with the U21's so this is a pat on the back for him and hopefully whoever comes in as manager leaves Unsworth in that role, at least.

I totally agree re Duncan's role at the club. A token gesture appointment by RM.

I always had the feeling that Duncan had no say in 1st teams affairs at all.

Lets hope the new management team build a team around Barkley and turn him in to the player we know he can be. Incidentally has Barkley been comfort eating or maybe his girls having a little sprog, either way he's certainly been trothing something. Jones reminds me of a scumbag who used to live opposite me, the guy used to fall out with his neighbor quite frequently and each time he'd get the baseball bat out and attack his neighbors front door. Absolute Neanderthal.

Rob (46) I haven't got a downer on Duncan, just saying it as I see it, Duncan got the call from Martinez, he is back in Football and has got a job, maybe he will get further offers from other clubs.

I wouldn't expect Duncan to knock the job back, it's just that Martinez gave him the job but he didn't ask him to do anything significant with the first team squad.Like you said Rob, Duncan just did what he was asked to do, which wasn't much, so as I said it was purely cosmetic.

56 Posted 12/05/2016 at 22:11:45
I've heard nowt about half time throat grabs but I thought it was odd that Barkley got the half time hook yesterday. Not Martinez usual style, and it's not like Barkley was playing any worse than anybody else. They were nearly all utterly dreadful.
Some good has come out of this. I believe Moshiri will have realized how little about football Kenwright actually knows, and will thus value his opinion proportionately moving forward. As anybody in business knows, the right decision is the right decision, and the only thing that cocks up that is not making it. Kenwrights theater background has given him a unique skill set for Everton Chairman, but as is obvious making good business decisions isn't a quality he possesses.

Good riddance to the Wigan lot. Maybe we will get some decent coaches now with a Goodison background. It's like a breath of fresh air to be rid of the folded arms, and all his cronies.

Just pray for a decent Manager next season, and some decent signings.

Just Kone, McCarthy and Robles to go. Robles got his chance and he is not good enough, simple as.

I hope we go all out for Koeman, De Boer would be my second choice.

HMS Goodison has jettisoned her Captain and Officers after a diasasterous cruise, which turned into a nightmare and not the pleasure cruise the Admiral and Commodore had in mind. The crew have been admonished of responsibility and though some will be put on the beach others will be retained in the hope they can finally realise their potential and regain the reputations they had before the Captains appointment 3 seasons ago.

If the Admiral and Commordore get the next appointment wrong then Carry On Cruising 2 may be released in August 2016.

The removal of the manager and his "team" is only a first piece of a large jigsaw completed. At present I am enjoying the moment and allowing my natural enthusiasm and hope to re charge. When the new man is installed will really be our first glance at just how serious Mr Moshiri is about our club. The papers today have mentioned a £100 million war chest but at today's inflated prices and all the TV money sloshing around that probably won't get anywhere near enough a number of quality player this squad needs to be seriously competitive for a top six challenge. There are only actually a small number of "big mangers " who could potentially encourage and entice the standard of footballer that I am hoping to see grace Goodison next season and so with this all in mind the really BIG decision is looming .

Inevitable that there would be a clear out of the back room staff. OK, a look through the whole squad makes interesting reading as to who should stay or go:

Goalkeepers:
1 Robles – Not a PL keeper; GO
24 Howard – OFF already
36 Stanek – Not featured; GO

Defenders:
2 Hibbert – Retirement; GO
3 Baines – A fading force; STAY
5 Stones – Shocking season but could be re-coached to do basic defending; STAY
6 Jagielka – STAY
8 Oviedo – Not good enough; GO
23 Coleman – Form needs to return; STAY
25 Funes Mori – must tighten his defending up; STAY
27 Browning – not good enough; GO
30 Holgate – Needs first team opportunities; STAY
32 Galloway – My first choice left-back; STAY
33 Connolly – STAY
38 Pennington – STAY

Midfielders:
4 Gibson – Sick note; GO
11 Mirallas – In the dark this season but a talent; STAY
12 Lennon – Love his workrate; STAY
15 Cleverley – Does he offer enough; GO
16 McCarthy – Sideways pass master; GO
17 Besic – Not good enough; GO
18 Barry – If he can hang on one more season; STAY
20 Barkley – Needs to sort out several aspects of his game; STAY
21 Osman – Out to pasture; GO
22 Pienaar – End of contract; GO
41 Davies – Great potential; STAY
51 Dowell – Needs a chance in the first team; STAY

Forwards:
9 Koné – A piss-poor forward; GO
10 Lukaku – Plenty of goals but bad attitude and work rate; STAY
14 Niasse – Right up with Krøldrup for worst signing ever; GO
19 Deulofeu – Hasn't really been played; STAY
28 Rodríguez – A nobody; GO

Damian, re Jones having a pop at Mori. I think that was probably justified after Mori's stupid tackle.

Ferguson seems to have escaped the cull for the moment. Whether that is good or bad I don't know. If he has something to offer then keep him on but if it just for old times sake then get rid.

Tony #66. Unsy mentioned Ferguson during his press conference. Together with Ebbrell & Royle he said that Everton will have four managers on Sunday... Ferguson is still on board.
If we see him on the touchline screaming at players, that will be another question answered especially after his testimonial address. I was expecting so much more from him this season.

He's deffo another who's needing to show a new manager that he's got something worth keeping.

Good news on this lot going, Martinez never seemed to want to listen to advice and he needed people who would stand up to him not this bunch of hangers on from Wigan. Denis Lawrence, what a joke- defensive coach! Graeme jones, - piece of work, still smirking even when we were losing at Sunderland. Can't see this lot operating at the highest level again. Would love big dunc to stay but the new manager I guess will make this decision.
