With Everton's need for a new right-back all too obvious, the link has been made with Tariq Lamptey, who has expressed a desire to leave Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton are said to have already expressed interest in signing him.

Injuries have severely restricted Lamptey’s game time this season, he’s played just 10 minutes of Premier League football so far, coming off the bench in Brighton’s 2-2 draw at home to Wolves on 26 October.

The Ghana international, who has been capped 11 times, is on a contract at the Amex Stadium that is due to expire at the end of the season, with the claim being made that he’d prefer to stay in England if he can, despite the likes of Juventus also showing interest in him.

But Lamptey is only a diminutive 5ft 4in tall and is at an obvious disadvantage against taller and more robust physical specimens that are increasingly dominating the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether Everton will actually make an approach for him in January.

The lad got a ton of good reviews when he broke through a couple of seasons ago. Pace and a willingness to get forward his prime assets.

A lot of question marks for me. Derailed by long-term injury and significant lack of height an unresolvable defensive problem, has he come back with all his talents intact, and was he ever that reliable in the defensive role? How lofty are his ambitions? Would he see us as a step up, a better opportunity?

I'm not worried about his robustness though. He looks solid enough and has the advantage (on the ground) of a low centre of gravity.

We have Patterson and young Dixon, plus Seamus can still put a shift in.

If this lad is any good, and I'd be wary of signing another crock.

For a full back, height doesn't bother me. Leighton Baines was hardly a giant.

Again, it's all speculation that we can only guess about.

We've talked about this guy on and off for years, and he certainly dazzled people when he first broke through in 2020, but over six seasons since then he has started only 47 games and missed 63 through injury, per Transfermarkt.

And for all his pace and skill, he is unproductive in attack -- he has exactly one career goal and 8 assists in those six seasons.

In our 1-1 draw at their house last February (the game where we gave up a 95th minute equalizer to 10 men), Lamptey was anonymous except for one terrific clearance off the line, and he was subbed off after an hour.

I'd say he's a flop. Hard to imagine our new owner being interested.
