Moyes wants to be 'in the mix'

Moyes rejects contract speculation

29 September

David Moyes's current deal will expire next summer but the manager maintains that is not a major issue and he is in no hurry to agree an extension as he focuses on matters on the field. Everton vs Southampton

29 September

With the debacle at Leeds out of the way, it's back to Goodison Park for the visit of Southampton and another task of getting the season back on track following a disappointing result. Gibson and Hibbert are ruled out, Coleman, Naismith and Anichebe are doubts but Jelavic should start up front. KO is 3pm.

Blues bounce back after early shock

29 September

Everton recovered from conceding another soft goal to eventually coast to a 3-1 victory that leaves them second in the table behind Chelsea. Ramirez headed home in the sixth minute with Howard seemingly negligent of his duties but Osman scooped home the equaliser before Jelavic scored two excellent goals before the break from some exceptional build-up play. The Blues relaxed perhaps a little too much in the second half, rather than really putting Saints to the sword but were full value for a fourth win in six Premier League games.

Everton show benefits of Barcelona system

27 September

The change in Everton's playing style this year has drawn praise from Kevin Garside of The Independent, who now likens the new system to Barcelona! Back in June, Garside pondered why David Moyes had not been considered for any of the top management jobs then on offer. Most among the "Everton priesthood", as he calls them, were outraged at what they perceived to be a cheap shot at Moyes. "The players haven’t necessarily improved. The system has," says Garside.

25 September

A poor start and not a much-changed side cost Everton the chance of progression in the Capital One Cup at Leeds tonight, according to manager David Moyes.

Moyes squanders another cup chance

25 September

Everton got off to an atrocious start, ceding possession and letting White waltz through the defence to scoop an impressive shot past the stranded Mucha. A dreadful half followed, forcing Moyes to switch out Junior and Gueye for the leadership and drive of Neville and Pienaar at half-time. But it got worse before it got better, Austin deflecting a Pugh shot in, leaving Everton with a mountain to climb. Distin pulled one back eventually but that would be it. Another cup disgrace.

Performance of the weekend: Everton

24 September

Nobody seems to be taking any notice of Everton at the moment, and maybe that will be to David Moyes’ liking. Even after handling Swansea on Saturday, the press are still more eager to predict doom for Michael Laudrup’s side than they are to laud the Toffees. So be it, but they were mightily impressive at the Liberty Stadium.

Dominant Blues blow away Swans

22 September

Everton wasted no time banishing the memory of Monday's frustration, putting on a hugely impressive display of attacking football that could have yielded at least double the three goals with which they eventually swept Swansea aside. Anichebe plundered a goal after Fellaini's determined set-up, Mirallas finally got the goal his enthusiasm and desire deserved to make it 2-0 at the break, and Fellaini atoned for missing a sitter by heading in the third. The Swans couldn't cope and finished with 10 men after Dyer picked up a second yellow for flying into Baines outside his own box.

''We could have scored six or seven''

Everton Focus - Stop-start career holding back Anichebe

21 September

In many ways it encapsulated much of Anichebe’s recent Everton career, which can perhaps be best surmised with one word: Inconsistent. The Anichebe that buried a powerful effort past Steve Harper is not the one that always takes to the field. Too often seen is the Anichebe that stumbled when seemingly clean through on goal a little earlier.
